most people have been doing prism scratch variations for a while, just by pushing the record a bit while double flaring, nothing super specific like the exact prism scratch, but tons of variations. This was fucking tight though man. Good explanation.
when and where do you do the 2 click flare movement?
do you flare each movement on the flare?
1 flare for each tear and 2 flares for the back stroke on the flare?
You push the record on the clicks.
No I believe it's a Mike Boo beat I believe. They use it in the Ned Hoddings showcase intro on D-Style's Knitting Factory dvd.
Makes it look so easy.
the first click falls on the pause in the forward tear, the second click falls in the change in direction
then mirror that for the second part.
none of the clicks actually 'flare' any of the sounds, they're just there for emphasis.
good work man. but don´t know if I can do it with 2click flare twiddle
different to Q s scratch.1 forward, 2 backwards then 2 forwards , 1 backward but sound good as well!!!!love this toadstyle s
Thanks for the lesson
I scratch with my left hand on record and right on the xfade hamster style. I've figured my own techniques of doing scratches like these. I'll do a video sometime. My favorite scratch is the clover tear :D I can't find anyone else in my area that can do them besides qbert and dstyles, haha.
I'll put up a vid for ya sometime.
DJ Envy
can anyone tell me whats the difference in doing these only as tears (without clicks) and adding 2 click flare?
i thought that you could get the same sound by going 2 fwd 2back, then 2 fwd 2 back again
okay all 3 prism scratch videos ive seen are all different... check out the prism scratch on the scratchlopedia video... thats the shit im trying to learn and i cant tell if its the same as this one
ignore that...what ive just discovered doesnt sound anything like the tear-only pattern i described in the post before..
but im still not sure if im doing it right....
now im doing 2fwd 1 back (with a double click in the middle of the 1 back only) the 1 fwd (with double click) and 2 back.
sounds ok, but itrs really hard to know if im doing it right cos i cant do the tears as fast as Mana and qbert, not with my left hand anyway which is my record hand....hmm
love it mana! you're an awesome teacher!
true...
idk, i get the same sound by just dicing the tears, but do whatever works best for you.
dude i don't quite get it :((((
there are 6 sounds with the hand movement and 6 in the scratch....but when i flare the 2 tears forward and back it of course doubles the amont of sounds on the tear so i end of with 10 sounds instead of 6....what going on ahhrrrrr
Im gonna use this one a sht load. easy to master, fun to use, and it sounds nutty as hell and i love it. :)
So Prism scratch is only done by clicking twice each tear?
According to Q he learnt Prizms from someone else so he didn't invent it he's just a master of it. (he says this in the youtube video titled "DJ Qbert - Prizms, Single T-table Scratch (No Mixer) & More")
at first I thought that was just a story he told, but he does seem to just learn and perfect everything he see's!
It's a beat from Toadstyle's record "Get 'Em"
Only 1000 pressed, better get on eBay...
@BoomBoxJakey No they're not actually. You're talking about no progression b/c they choose to use the same sound and use in different notes/measures and technics? Last I checked w/o pedals, guitar strings still make the same sounds and kick/snare drums still made the boom/bap noises? Progression is only limited by the musicians mind, if you can't understand that then maybe our discussion is over...
holy shit this was good video explaining this!
so, no flare click on the drag?
that would be cool...instead of 6, you'd get 8 sounds
record technique is more difficult than fader technique
i feel like everyone is making this harder than it needs to be. its just transformed tears in both regular tear motions. check Q-bert's DIY vid on 'dicing'. just do one of each back-to-back and there's your prism!
wow.... thanks man
people are still scratching that sample? so much for progression
sounds kind of like the boomerang scratch
ok cool, im gettn it now
...its really qbert man lol he was just foolin around about the dude in hawaii..probably talkin about skratchy seal being the grand master lol
skills
Sounds like a dirt style records beat
super
you dont have full control of a sound sample with digital. Just go n cop a copy of SuperSeal
it's not transformed tears - you start with the fader on.
sorry!! love this toadstyle s breakbeat!!!
@madthevillain two completely different things, my dude. i'm talking about a sound. you're talking about an instrument.
the fuck? a hundred guitarists can tune their guitars in the same way and still come out sounding completely different from each other. Drums can be tuned to sound loose or tight. So that argument doesn't hold. Cutting this sample, regardless of the technique, will still come out sounding like that sample. And what's more, these dj's are still cutting it at the same pitch and speed. You're gonna argue that all vocalists sound the same now right?
no shit? im intrigued
WOW THATS TIGHT, if you got time can you check my vids and give a little advice please. cheers
toadstyles break record the limited 1000 copies only.
sorry NO but its 1fwd 2bk 2fw 1bk (you`re doing autobahns) thats why it sounds wront m8
annoying.
