    Great boat, brother! I have a 1971 HR Mistral 33 in the San Francisco Bay area and just wanted to share some things that I've done to her, and it worked well. Installed a solar panel arch aft of the traveler and one right above the companion way, giving 700W combined. The more important one is the aft one giving you a good sun shade in much sunnier areas than Norway. The store was selling panels in pairs only, but I'm glad now, because I use both panels to collect rain water that I often use for drinking and anything else. When my diesel started giving me trouble, I've fixed it for the last time and sold it, replacing it with an electric outboard. I sail my boat everywhere and only use the outboard for precision maneuvering and when there is no wind at all. It can run on a battery for 8 hours. I've replaced fuel tank with the water one and turned former engine space into a storage of tools, water filters, can be a water maker in the future and water toys. I've removed all classic technology cushions and replaced them with thick interlocking rubber gym mats. It greatly reduced the possibility of mold growth, and it can be dried in 30 minutes in any weather. For sleeping, I use a memory foam mattress that can be rolled into a very small bundle and stored behind my flip up back rest. Replacing old cushions with rubber mats also increased the interior space in hight by about 40mm everywhereon the boat. The most useful modification I've made for sailing in any weather conditions - is installing a removable inner stay for a custom-made storm jib that I use above 30 knots. I love my small boat because I've learned to sail it well in any weather, and I'm confident that you can take your boat safely around the world. Fair winds, brother ⛵️

    Very best wishes from Ireland. I will look forward to future news on your progress.
    I met up yesterday with a Carpenter and experienced solo sailor from Canada, who has arrived in Ireland from Prince Edward Island in his 21 foot plywood junk rigged boat. He has built it beautifully, very strong and practical. He has a well presented RUclips channel 'Rover's Adventure'.
    Fair winds and have a safe great adventure.. Nigel.

    Would be a good idea to remove the stainless steel swivel on the chain and change to a galvanized one. Galvanized chain with stainless steel swivel don't go together. I have the same "problem" which I will fix soon. Also, add 3-4 links of chain between the anchor and the swivel. I admire your willingness to take off and kind of envy you. I wish I had done the same when I was in your age. Less complicated at that age. Wishing you the best and I hope we have the chance to follow you.

    First of all, good luck and fair winds. Isnt your solar power way to smal? might be OK on a sunny day, but a week of fog you will charge 40 watts an hour. Is that enough? And could you number the episodes

    • @Sailing-Maja
      @Sailing-Maja  4 месяца назад +2

      @@MariusClausen-bf2kw Thanks for spotting that. Well, the boat is without any fridge or cooling at all. So the only thing consuming electricity is light. So there is not much needed. In a week of fog, then the engine needs to run for an hour or two.
      Keep it simple!
