  • "I have studied countless faces, attempting to see not just how they look, but who they are. To find in God's truth my own".
    Warning: SPOILERS
    Leonardo Da Vinci is an iconic historical figure who lived in Italy during what is called the European Renaissance period. Not only is his famous work including paintings such as the Mona Lisa, but he was also a talented sculptor (none of his works survive), engineer, scientist, theorist, and architect (Leonardo's Rivellino during the Milanese Wars). A true polymath of the ages and another figure to add to my edits.
    ‘Leonardo is a series that recounts Leonardo da Vinci's extraordinary life through the works that made him famous, through the stories hidden within those works, revealing little by little the inner torment of a man obsessed with attaining perfection.’
    The show wasn’t entirely accurate as the whole murder plot line and Caterina was made up, alongside his origins etc. Nevertheless, I did find it entertaining and the artistic elements of it were well done!

    If you see this note every single detail of Leonardo , he was curious , driven , obsessed with truth
    he found connection between everything. he believed that every thing is connected and he expressed his various knowledge of different fields in his paintings. he applied art and science,
    Leonardo is truly remarkable

    This is a Remarkable insight into the movie depicting Leonardo’s rather sad and lonely life, I was completely captivated by Aidan Turners portrayal of the great man, I would say it is one of his best if not the best movie to date, wonderful edit and tittle “The Truth” was what he was searching for all of his sombre and most often tragic life, well done 👏 Robbie and congratulations on another successful masterpiece! Bravo! 👌

      Michelangelo is the greatest artist! A painter, sculptor, architect and poet. He painted the monumental frescoes(difficult technique) of the Sistine Chapel, he did masterpieces of sculptures such as David, Pietà, Bacchus, he was the architect of projects such as the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica, the Laurentian library, the Palazzo Farnese (seat of the french embassy in Rome), the Piazza del Campidoglio, he also wrote about 300 poems, mostly sonnets and madrigals.

      I saw the murder as a framework like the frame of a picture. Inside which was the soul of Leonardo was the essence of the series. The pictures and the events surrounding them were all historically accurate. Think of the murder as a frame to Leonardo and his inner thoughts.

    • @rr7firefly
      @rr7firefly 2 года назад +2

      @@latitudeselongitudes1932 That's very possible. Back then Leonardo did not have to contend with constant prying into his private life. So we do not have a clear picture of what he was experiencing deep in his soul. Being gay was then considered a major social offense.

      @latitudeselongitudes1932 2 года назад

      Yes, he was very discreet about his private life. But he was not antisocial like Michelangelo, even less a dissolute, promiscuous like Caravaggio. I think Leonardo was a chaste man but of course his sexuality could indeed be a source of internal conflict. There was indeed legal repression against overt homosexuality and yet it was widespread, especially in Florence and Rome, in artistic and even clerical circles. The very term for relations between men in Europe at that time was "vice from Florence" There are thousands of records of "sodomy" cases in Medici's Florence and Papal Rome. I think the Renaissance and the Baroque to a certain extent rehabilitated this whole greco-roman male homoerotic heritage, which had been christianized, sublimated (or not) but never disappeared. This universe of celebration of male beauty and form, homosocialization, platonic infatuation. Michelangelo's nude David, Caravaggio's Bacchus, Leonardo's androgynous figures, the initiatic pederasty in the studios of painters, sculptors and in seminaries and ecclesiastical circles, in artistic patronage, in all this relational and aesthetic masculine world which is one of the legacies of that period

    • @rr7firefly
      @rr7firefly 2 года назад

      @@latitudeselongitudes1932 Thank you for the extensive commentary you wrote. You hashed out the Renaissance in much broader terms than how it is usually portrayed in history and art books. That phenomenon of silent acceptance or complicity of homoerotic sculpture (as the case may be with each individual who knew what was going on) does not surprise me. You pointed out some obvious examples that would indicate that the Greco-Roman male ideal was an enormously popular motif. I always noted how David was depicted differently by Donatello, Michelangelo and Bernini. Each one showing a beautiful male figure but the treatments on a spectrum of feminine and masculine attributes. Like you I see Leonardo as a man of decorum, very unlike that wild man Caravaggio. You probably know Vasari's "Lives of the Artists" -- did he keep a safe distance from the private aspects of their lives?

    • @latitudeselongitudes1932
      @latitudeselongitudes1932 2 года назад

      @@rr7firefly
      I have yet to read Vasari, he is surely important for the genesis of the Art History field as we know it despite the consensus that he did embellished his writing a bit. I personally like a few western artists, Hieronymus Bosch and his proto-surrealism that anticipated Salvador Dalí by centuries, Caravaggio and his dramatic and violent realism, his scenographic quality and mastery of light and shadow, El Greco and the ecstasy, the devotional rapture of his figures, Jackson Pollock and his fluidity in the composition that is at once paradoxically chaotic, his abstract expressionism, and Nicholas Roerich with his remote and ethereal landscapes of the Himalayas. Having said that i prefer oriental art, aesthetics. My favorite styles of Asian art are Gandhara sculptures from Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, Gupta, Chola and Pala from India and Torma from Tibet and Bhutan, in materials such as stone, metals and butter and between the 2nd century AD and the 14th century, mainly those with a deteriorated appearance that attests to its antiquity, historicity. I love Buddhist Thangka paintings, especially the ones with faded, aged colors, and the frescoes on the walls of Tibetan, Bhutanese and Ladakhi monasteries. My favorite styles of architecture are Dravidian, Rajput and Mughal from India, Newari from Nepal, Dzong from Bhutan, Timurid from Uzbekistan, Safavid from Iran and of the Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana monasteries that exist across the continent.I also really enjoy Indian, Afghan, Tibetan and Bhutanese music, Japanese literature and calligraphy, Japanese wood block prints, Japanese and Chinese black ink painting, Indian and Japanese classical theater and dance, Indian miniature painting and Buddhist sand mandalas. I just finished reading a book about tibetan art and started another one about indian and nepalese art both written by the eminent specialist on Himalayan and South Asian art, professor Pratapaditya Pal from India, an erudite man in the scope of his knowledge, curatorship, authorship, museology, books published, exhibitions organized
