Washington Metro Announcements - Randi Miller Doors Opening/Doors Closing

- An announcement I recorded in December 2019 aboard the Washington Metro's 2000s-era Legacy rolling stock. I can't remember if it was a 6000 Series or a refurbished 2000/3000 Series. Quite by accident, I discovered that when the famous doors opening and closing chimes play, the announcement is actually emitted through the door-header speaker on both sides of the train. By holding my recording device up to one of the speakers opposite the one that the doors had actually opened to while riding into Downtown DC that day, I managed to get the clearest-possible audio of Randi Miller's voice. And because I have grown up with an absolute love for this announcement, I tweaked the video with some door-motion visual effects and added audio I recorded separately of the door motions on a 6000 Series.
Credit goes to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and Randi Miller.
“Step back to allow the doors to close.”
WE GETTIN OUT OF CENTREVILLE WIT DIS ONE 🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🔥🔥
That audio sounds much cleaner than when I hear it on the Metro.
*DING DONG DING DONG* Step back, doors closing ⚠️
Doors opening, step back to allow customers to exit. When boarding, please move to the center of the car.
Step back doors closing.
Step back to allow the doors to close.
The new announcement system is Miss Martin, Caillou's teacher!
That’s right!
What in fucking hell boi they changed it hell nah?
@@officalgoofyahhcat The new trains have a different voice and chime but the older trains still sound like this
@@theladycata9648Her real name is Kate.
Honestly, I would rather hear Bernie Wagenblast read off announcements for the Metro. She actually auditioned for next stops on WMATA at one point, but I can't find the audio file I once had from the internet of that submission.
Randi Miller is also the same voice used on the self checkouts until 2011! So many memories…
Wait, really?! That is so cool! Do they still have her voice on the self checkouts to this day, or did they change it?
@MasonSoliday-ff2ih Which store? What area? That's incredible.
Perfect doors opening step back doors closing
Too bad the 7000 series as a cheaply made automated voice which sounds very robotic.
Right? If anything, they should have chosen someone who sounds like Michele Torres on MARTA or Catherine Cowdery on the NYC Subway E Train. Better yet, they should have used Bernie Wagenblast (an announcer for the NYC Subway, the AirTrain Newark, and PATCO Speedline) because she actually auditioned for Washington Metro and her audition tape sounded great in my opinion.
Even compared to what I think is the Ava text-to-audio voice on the BART Fleet of the Future (at least she sounds intrigued and inviting), Metro chose a very depressed and unhappy voice for their 7000 Series. Like "come on Metro, don't you want people to enjoy the ride?"

Is Michele Torres that voice that says
“This train is bound for airport station” on Marta?
I always liked that voice. Sounds very professional.
Or Sharon that does the voice for the plane train Atlanta airport
@@patricknedz Yes, Michele Torres, according to an article on Vox, is the voice that says "This train is bound for Airport station." But yes, Sharon Feingold I agree would also be great. She's very happy sounding. :)
@@wlctransit7593 any idea who recorded the voice for the ATL skytrain?
@patricknedz It's Sharon Feingold also, at least as far as the onboard voice telling you "We are approaching GICC and Gateway Center Hotel." I don't know who does the voice of the platform announcements, though. But I do have recordings of all those ATL SkyTrain announcements. I can post those at some point.
That's not only the reason why I liked the 2000s, 6000s, and 3000s series of metro trains. because they have the best seat with the shaded panel on the train.
Four monotone beeps accompany step back to allow the doors to close
(Xylophone) Step back to allow the doors to close!
Anyone knows who voices the Metro buses?
But I wish the old ones for the 6000s series and 3000s could be repainted to my favorite colors.
period i love the train
I MISS HER
Randi Miller is music to our ears!
She's an icon of WMATA! ❤️🧡💙💚💛🩶

What is the 7000 series door chime sound
I was able to get a recording of the chime, but it's very difficult to siphon that out from the announcer voice. That is, if you're just looking for the chime itself. As for full 7000 Series announcements, I do have a handful I could put up at a later date.
Who is the 7000 series announcer?
TTS (Text to Speech) Kate.
