THANK GOD YOU ADDRESSED THE MOLLY PROBLEM! People always get mad at me when I say I hate that scene. It's not because I ship Johnlock, it's because I like good writing and character development. The Molly senecio was cruel not because it was "clever" or "heartbreaking" it was pointless and a major set back for Molly's character!!
"How does she do it? I don't know, she just does." - You're speaking right from Moffat's head there. That's literally how he writes Doctor Who and Sherlock nowadays.
oh you forgot Sherlock ignoring Vatican Cameos. God I wanted to scream. I watched this when it was leaked in Russian and it was so bad I thought it was fake and then when the real thing came on I just started crying.
--- SPOILERS obviously... --- The thing is, when you're a budding psychopath as a child, you need very specific care. Not every psychopath grows up into a serial killer [this comes from psychologists' articles, I'm not a self-proclaimed expert. Movies and media really romanticizes the psychopathy and serial killer blurred lines]. The fact that they took her away from her family and were probably ill-equipped to deal with whatever she was at the time. She did have feelings and need for affection and nurturing. Her parents were out of the picture. The one she sought affection from, her Sherlock, she was ripped from too. She did take jealousy to a whole other level by capturing his best bud.
No she was born evil. Omg. She tried to burn her family inside her house bc she didn't get attention. Then she was locked up in solitary confinement since the age of 5! Obviously she's crazy
This was such an uplifting video! "You shouldn't let anyone take that away from you, you're interpretation of the characters is just as valid as the writers" Made my day! Thanks :)
What really freaks me out about this episode is the fact that this is the FIRST AND ONLY Sherlock episode EVER which I DREADED going back to. As in it actually made me feel physically ill watching it. And that's... not good. Not for a Show like Sherlock. Sure it has its ups and downs like any show is bound to, but before this one, there was not a SINGLE EPISODE I would not re-watch! (And more often than not I would watch them all two to three times in a row the first time and then just keep watching them because they're just that good!) But this one just... it wasn't good. Like, I'm not even exaggerating here, I was so let down and just left in a state of disbelief and dread. Even to the point when I couldn't even properly sleep that night. Talk about traumatising a generation, huh? That said, I really did like all the things you mentioned, parentlock, Mrs. Hudson and Sian Brooke were the things I liked personally.
I'm... well, not glad, but I thought I was the only one. I went back to re-watch it, but not even ten minutes in I had to pause it and have a frustrated little cry before just turning it off. It's the only episode of the entire show I've only seen once.
i haTED how they treated molly and how they completely teared apart her entire character oh my god i'm so sick of how they treat women in this show plus the fact they reduced 'the best criminal mind' to a sidekick to a secret sister irritated me beyond words, possibly more so than the queerbaiting sigH @ writers why
How about the 3 words they gave us? Adventure, Romance, Terror? 1. Adventure? Sure, Mary rolling the dice and moving randomly around the world, with Sherlock and John on her tail. A shoot out in Morocco , A kidnapping plot, torture, all adventurous. 2. Terror sure Euros is terror incarnate. Where was the Romance? John flirting with E on the bus? The christening? John beating the crap out of Sherlock while Sherlock is obviously ill? None of this is romance. Other plot holes I just can't wrap my head around...or maybe someone can explain them to me... The tombstones and the poem(song) together were a puzzle for Sherlock to figure out that his sister wanted to play too. That was my impression anyways. Who made the tombstones(that's some kick-ass preschool arts and crafts.)? After Sherlock hugged Euros he says something like help me save John Watson. Does she lead him to the well? How as a kid did she know where there was a well, when presumably her parents didn't know about it (or they would have searched for Redbeard there)? I would think there would be an extensive hunt for a neighbor kid.
IF IT'S GONNA BE GROUNDBREAKING IN TELEVISION HISTORY MAKE SHERLOCK GAY AND JOHN BI AND HOOK THEM UP, THERE AREN'T MANY POPULAR SHOWS LIKE THAT, IF ANY
What bothered me was that Sherlock just FORGOT that his sister killed his best friend. Like, I just didn't buy the whole "blocked out the memory to avoid the trauma" thing. I mean, maybe I just don't understand trauma. That's possible, I'm not a doctor. It just felt far fetched to me that he could forget everything about Redbeard AND about Eurus and only figure it all out now.
Not entirely sure if this is true or not, but apparently the whole idea of the psychotic secret sister wasn't thought up until after The Abominable Bride. Because I guess they had to come up with SOMETHING to replace a "definitely dead but we're still gonna act like he's not dead 'cause screw you" Moriarty. That's probably why Moriarty never used the "Redbeard" thing against Sherlock back then. Considering how clumsy and half-assed the episode was, I can believe that's what happened.
You have opened my eyes to many plotholes throughout this show. I did feel at the time that the secret sister things was weird and cliche but then when we saw her she was really well acted and her torture was profound and sickening. I love Molly as a strong woman, but I also think it wasn't farfetched for her to still love Sherlock. While it is true that she was over him, I didn't once think she had entirely stopped loving him. The thing that confused me about that scene was the very beginning, cause she seemed to already be having a really bad day. I think that's why that scene didn't necessarily disappoint me, because though there was no explanation for her vulnerable state, the fact that it carried on throughout the scene held it together. I can see where they were coming from there. Though from Sherlock blatantly saying he loved John at his own wedding in front of everyone, to not saying it at all even though he was genuinely about to shoot himself in the head; that was weird. I think the rope thrown in to the well was supposed to imply someone grappling down to unlock John. The glass was weird, I thought that too, especially since the reflections on the glass play a big part in the Moriarty/Euros scene. Though there are people in real life who have been able to pay for purchases with blank paper or take sunglasses off a person's head without them noticing.... But Sherlock isn't normal either so... All in all, I too feel really conflicted about this episode. now more so then ever.
Fgs finally someone who talks about EXACTLY what i think (I probably ruined english grammar sorry english is not my native lang) everyone is "OH I LOVED THIS EPISODE IT WAS THE BEST ONE SO FAR" or "HOLY SHIT THIS WAS TRASH WTF" im like in between. I thinks the same as you
AMillionMadMusings same!! Like i found parentlock really cute (but not enough, i wanted more of that 😅) or "THATS WHY HE STAYS" :')) but i found so many problems as well. And thank youu 💜💜 i am from Turkey so english is my second language that's why I don't trust my english so much
Watching this, I was hearing my own thoughts coming out of a younger person's mouth and with a British accent. Seriously, everything you said are things I have said over and over. I lost a friendship -- someone I knew for 30+ years -- for just questioning how John got out of that well. If Sherlock Holmes were a real person, he would have eviscerated this episode for all the inconsistencies and impossibilities; as fans, many of us have come to analyze things in the same way. Thank you for this video!
The thing with Sherlock telling John "Try not to drown" - I personally don't think that's OOC. Remember The Great Game? There were all these people with bombs strapped on them, but Sherlock's primary focus was saving them, not worrying about them. He used his energy to solve the puzzles. Same thing with John and the well - he was visibly distressed for a few minutes, but he realized that Eurus meant business and the only way to save John was through the riddle. He couldn't waste precious time panicking. That said, I agree with everything else in this video, and I love this (+the queerbaiting makeup tutorial XD) SOSO MUCH. I swear, this is so relatable...Keep doing what you do
This literally sums up everything I thought about the tfp, what I liked and what I didn't like. So if anyone asks for my opinion I will just show them this video :D (sorry for my english)
Thank you so much for summing up perfectly (and charmingly) the (sadly) few highlights and the (sadly) many letdowns of the episode. I am in full agreement and horribly disappointed by the staggering amount of plotholes and the utter lack of Sherlock and John's relationship in the episode itself (and I'm not talking about Johnlock, although that would have been lovely, but their almost cold interactions during the episode. The montage at the end felt stilted and slapdash where it could have been so much more profound. And what made me flip my shit was Mary in the episode. How is she the one to narrate the epilogue? What has she done to deserve this? Giving her blessing to "her Baker Street Boys"? They are not yours. You lied and murdered the main character. What the hell? I screamed and shouted abuse at the television. Still raging honestly.
I think the thing with the change in feel (As in the more thriller-like nature of it) was something that they couldn't really get out of. From The Reichenbach Fall the show had to become something a little more character focused, just because of what the stakes were (not even how high they were, but just the nature of what was going on). The whole of the last two series has been, more or less, one big story arc, with nothing really slowing down until the end of The Six Thatchers, and none of it was really something that they could have just pushed to the side to focus on the mysteries again. I think that when the show does eventually come back, however long that takes, they'll push it back to the mystery-of-the-week type style agian.
You said you don't like this kind of thing. And thats why you didn't like the episode as much. Which is fine. I can see why people might not like it. I loved this episode. I knew it was never going to be Sherlock and John solving a case. It was never set up to be that. It was tens all the way through. Eurus was never the villain. She is the cleverest of the three. And had no concept of good, evil, wrong, right, happy, sad etc. She was asking Sherlock for help to save her. In her mind she wanted to get to know Sherlock by pushing him to the limit. Eurus has no clue what she put them through was mental torture. The scene with Molly was great. Sherlock has locked his feeling away for so long. So he never thought of Molly in any other way except she is Molly. The i love you broke the weird chemistry between them. Molly gets to move on and Sherlock realises he loves her as a friend. Being with John has opened Sherlock up to feeling things. In the end Molly seems happier than we have ever seen her. Eurus helps Sherlock remember the truth and the pain. Sherlock has had Redbread over him since being a child. To finally come to terms with his past. Sherlock looks happier at the end as well. He understands what Eurus did. And now fixing what Microft did to her. He has a connection with his sister and wants to get to know her and help her. The have left the door open to do more and more like the first 3 series. And given us a ending that we can move on knowing there will be no more. The door is open for both scenarios. Lets hope we get a 5th :)
Ok I'm really behind - I just watched this episode over the weekend and I couldn't wait to watch this video and hear you reaction to it. I agree so much with all of your points - I enjoyed the episode but I missed the crime/detective drama (it definitely felt more like thriller/horror to me). My biggest problem with the most recent episodes of Sherlock is that the plot gets more and more complex and it didn't need to be.
My favorite episode of BBC Sherlock was The Abominable Bride which is total mind palace. Has anyone considered that The Final Problem also is total mind palace on so many levels? Also Mark Gatiss as Mycroft has his character saying some intriguing dialogue that drops hints to what the motivations of some of the characters are especially Jim Moriarty. Most Johnlock fans were angry and disappointed that after the apparent death of Mary Watson ( who is a spy/agent mind you) Sherlock and John did not become a couple in any sense. In fact the writers have the character of Sherlock kissing or near kissing every other character in the series Except John. Think people. There is a reason for this. Which will be explained in a future BBC Sherlock series before I turn 90 hopefully. Many fans wanted “representation” as they call it. I just want an intriguing story line please. Comment please ???
"This is the same episode where John's feet are tied to the bottom of the well and he climbs out using a rope" CAN I GET A THANK YOU ASDALKDJAKLSJDALKSDJ No honestly, this was one of the biggest issues I had with TFP. Some of the sloppiest editing I've ever witnessed in a show.
These videos are always so amazing and cute and relatable, it brightens my day :) THE TRUTH HAS BEEN SPOKEN I wonder though: the entire episode is so OOC, so full of plot holes, so inherently bad... could it be intentional? I'm trying not to believe in the "4th episode theory" because I don't want to be disappointed again, but watching your video and reading compelling metas on Tumblr, I kinda want to be hopeful about it
The secret 4th episode was a nice idea in theory but even it was real, even if it ended up being the best thing ever put on television that wouldn't change the fact they made you waste time sitting through 3 episodes of bullshit (although technically two I suppose since most people really liked The Lying Detective) just to turn around and say "surprise we got you!". That would be sleazy and downright insulting.
It just breaks my heart, that I thought we were going back home to Baker Street. To them solving their emotional issues (if in love or not - in my opinion certainly) but all we got of that were those last 5 minutes. I thought we were heading towards the shattering climax they promised, but apparently 103749 references to horror movies mixed up with James Bond and supernatural persuasion abilities it's what it was all about all along. Moffat talked about the moment like: "I was being told and I didn't listen" - yeah well now that I know it doesn't make any sense. They gave us the show without it's heart and honestly the relation to the canon was insanely poor.
Really late comment. I am rewatching BBC's Sherlock and enjoy your reviews. Molly Hooper... I liked that moment because to me, no matter if you don't take BS from the one you love, admitting to him you love him is still a very vulnerable thing which I thought was done well in the show. She will continue to take no BS from him because that's who she's grown as, and even stronger as she has admitted her feelings to herself so she can move forward, rather than dating and almost marrying a doppleganger [no one's gon' talk 'bout tha'?] All in all TFP I wanted two episodes of it where things can be better explored for both the concept of proper plot and character development and resolutions. But that being said, TFP remains my fave episode to date near the pilot episode, and series 4 still my fave series. I think it would have been more of an emotional payoff if Molly had died [please no!] or was injured and they didn't know if she was yet alive, so Sherlock destroying the coffin would make more sense. Then again when you're under that much stress, like John losing Mary too, rationality is hardly ever your strong suit - which is what Eurus was trying to trigger in him, feeling emotional and even having emotional outbursts. The analogy of Eurus never being able to "land" from her Mind Palace and needing Sherlock struck such a deep chord in me. This was the same five year old Eurus who was reaching out in her own psycho-way to be friends with Sherlock; in such a way Eurus never grew up. She is very different from Moriarty who is also a psycho. And watching them together made me want to vomit. Plot holes yeh... I agree with you. She probably had Sherrington under control for - years - in order to leave when she wanted to interact with ordinary people in an ordinary environment to to double as John's therapist, in order to get access to keep messaging John, and I think she used to meetup with Moriarty before they "met" too. Not all budding psychopaths as children grow up to be serial killers [that's actually from my reading psychology articles, I'm not a self-proclaimed expert, but I am aware that media, books and movies romanticizes a lot the blurred lines between psychopathy and the tendency to be a serial criminal.] Eurus since a child of five years old was taken away from her family and her siblings and grew apparently without nurturing so her development of empathy may have been further hampered, culminating in this cold serial criminal that she turned out to be. The fact that she still felt for Sherlock underneath all of that is quite something. Mycroft knew that Sherlock 'became' Eurus when he erased her from her memory - Sherlock emulated her cold logical machine self and tried to become that [I wished that was better explored]. Sherlock was emotional as a child and even made a genuine friend [insert his and Mycroft's unique enunciation of word "friend" here, but yes, he did make a friend] outside of the family, so I wouldn't peg him so much so as a budding psychopath, even growing up to be a sociopath [he's a self-proclaimed sociopath whereas I think he's somewhere along in the spectrum of autism, hence his social ineptness and insensitive 'timing' [I like how John enunciates that word]]. He was intellectual of course, but Sherlock is not cold. He was not as a child and he struggles being cold in his adulthood. That is not naturally him. Look at his wedding speech and how uncomfortable it was - he was uncomfortable being "himsellf...i.e. Eurus" because he loved John and he loved Mary in a very affectionate and vulnerable way, two people outside of his own family. Sherlock always struck me as a very emotionally blocked person, and I was happy to see him healing some by the time we encountered Eurus. He won't become "ordinary" as he still is spectacular to me, a spectacular genius and still a spectacular mess, but more of a healed mess. Sherlock with Rosie and Archie was life. It's like watching a big overgrown kid interact with a little kid. My adorable-meter went off the charts. I didn't even think he was capable. But it makes sense because children gravitate to that "innocence" of other people. Sherlock always makes fun of John's barely used logical brain, now John can poke fun at Sherlock's barely used emotional brain.
y'all. Chromecast auto played this while i was taking a nap. During my nap I could kind of hear it. For some reason. I thought it was about icarly. Oh boy was i confused.
It was more like "Sawlock" then "Sherlock" tbh. I have to say: I love the characters and I spend a lot of time getting to know them to a point where they felt familiar, but now... WHAT THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY’RE DOING?!?! Also, dear writers... IS THIS THE END???? REALLY??!?!? WHAT THE FUCK???!!!!
I totally agree. I consider this the worst Sherlock episode ever, and feel so dissapointed that this could be the last episode of the show. It's an intriguing piece of television... until you spend even a fraction of time applying logic to the story. So many fantasy elements which just do not fit in the show that spent many seasons grounding itself within reality
I just watched TFP again (definitely my least viewed Sherlock episode) and I’m still pained by all of it. Agree with everything you said! I’ll especially never understand the Sherlolly shippers after *that* painful to watch scene. Have we not been watching the same show?! Sigh.......
I just binged watched the complete series. I didn't buy a lot of the scenarios - surviving the explosion without being hurt, the control over others, the control over the whole prison, and the absence of glass and the rest of the prison stuff. I enjoyed Exx and the ending...
You really laid down exactly the things I couldn't put into words about this episode. Especially about the shift to Bond. That's one of the main reasons I disliked Series 4 as a whole. I too enjoyed this modern detective show where each episode they have a new case to solve and S3 sort of veered off, but I was still alright enough, until S4 traded little cases entirely for more dramatic plots, like in action movies I never bother to watch. I can see why a lot of people would like that, but it definitely wasn't my glass of tea.
+Emily Miller there was a really interesting video I watched about the genre of Sherlock and how that affected the show...it might be one of the recommended videos at the side or just research genre of Sherlock or something like that but they talk about that aspect a lot more and more eloquently than me!
molly hooper deserves better molly hooper deserves better molLY HOOPER DESERVES BETTER MOLLY HOOPER DESERVES BE regardless though i think i agree with this review.. a lot???? like i really just didn't love it, especially because they built up to the "i love you" moment CLEARLY DIRECTING US TOWARDS THINKING IT WAS TO JOHN (i.e. "what's the very worst thing you can do to your very best friends? tell them your darkest secret" and then "i love you" like BOI) and then only gave us like 3 seconds of parentlock (which i still appreciate to the extreme because it was SO PURE) but i mean. the fact that john had to mention oscar wildes quote (and oscar wilde is important in a bit of TJLC) just made me feel like they were toying with our emotions. also LMAO THEY TOTALLY GLOSSED OVER THE FACT THAT EURUS LITERALLY. SHOT. JOHN AT THE END OF TLD BY SAYINF IT WAS A TRANQUILIZER OR WHATEVER..??>! IT WAS A REAL GUN THOUGH IM SHOOK
I felt anger at this scene not because of Molly. Let's face it, it was Molly who brought this about her when she demanded that Sherlock say 'I love you' to her when she clearly knows he does not feel it for her. But I get angry because it was an unnecessary scene that served merely to feed delusional Sherlollys illusions, or give me the idea that Moffitis created the persona Molly just to practice his sadistic vein.
Well so I completely agree with all the positive points and with the Molly point.🙈 For the rest I have to say that I actually enjoyed this season very much, it was different for sure and had its flaws but there were these wonderful Johnlock moments, lots of feels and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think you have to see it more as a kind of transition season for Sherlock to become the more human and wiser man he is in the late Conan Doyle stories. So if there is a next season I'm sure they'll go back to good old crime solving together 😊 nonetheless I understand all your critic points though I may see them differently and I'm glad there are still people who can deliver them without hating on anyone 👍 So that's why even if I don't agree with everything you got a thumbs up from me 😊
John didn't climb out using a rope. The rescue people threw it down to go down and get him. Also the explosion was at least a week before they went to Sherrinford. They probably WERE in hospital for days
I 100% agree with every word that comes out of your pretty mouth. I hated so much that they turned this show into a laughing excuse... I mean.. THe whole reason I loved it was the constant back and forth between cold logic and emotional responses. I wanted to see an episode where past traumas were reawoken... not a stupid "oh no kill or die" situation. THe whole part where JOhn was like "soldiers" no. If you want to really reawaken the captain.. have the situation call for him! HAve a reason for it!!! and wtf Mycroft shouldn't have turned a hair at the murder of someone, and yet he Threw up>????? what the HELL happened to the ice man???
Being a little late to the party, i've only watched S4 last weekend, and it was so disappointing it left me more surprised than upset. The contrast between brilliant performances and that glittering rubbish of a plot was STAGGERING, particularly because so much care was put into visual detail. Honestly, it feels like Philip Anderson hijacked the direction process. My new headcanon: the whole season 4 is Anderson's attempt to sherlock a chain of events we'll be treated to in S5. Fuck, i'm angry.
I completely understand your points, it's a shame you and other people were disappointed. Having said that, I absolutely loved it, I was on the edge of my seat and its up there with my favourites now. Series 4 overtakes series 3 for me :)
Like honestly I feel like I could just share this video with everyone and then they'd know what my opinion on this episode is. I had the exact same thoughts, thank you for putting them into words and making sense while doing so XD The only thing I'm not that furious about as you are is the Molly part. I think it was horrible what they did to her, but somehow I also understand that she couldn't say these words as she was not completely over Sherlock. Still, I think it was a little weird to bring that up again as she really had become more independent. Oh yeah and in the end all is fine and she is fine after basically her crush who obviously doesn't love her back forced her to say I love you and she probably fell back in all those feelings. But all is fine, no problem there. That bothered me. Great video of yours as always, thank you again for putting my thoughts into words, and maybe see you in the comment section of another video of yours later :-)
I just started watching your videos since the new Sherlock episodes and I can totally relate to most things you say. So at least that's a good thing S4 brought me XD And I love writing comments, especially when you can count on a response from the video maker, it's lovely to chat and interact with the content creator :-)
Plot holes and insufficient resolution? This is Steven Moffat writing, so it shouldn't be a surprise. He has done this to doctor who for years and made it unwatchable.
I think the episode wasn't groundbreaking. It ruined my expectations and everything was lile gameshow style and full of hollywood effects. But parent!lock is my jam and it redeemed everything LOL.Although... I'm not giving up after number three hahaha. Might be wishful thinking, but... Meh. Haha :')
I'm very late with my comment cause I just recently finished watching the show and funny enough found your videos which I love, so first I agree with you that while I do enjoy the physiological aspect when incorporated on shows but I don't know I feel like it came out of nowhere and in the end nothing happened(?). Second I hate with a passion of a million suns what they did with Molly as the season went on I felt like while she still loved Sherlock she made her peace with it and understood it's not gonna be reciprocated the way she wanted but then this last episode it was like we went back to season one with her like why the fuck would they do that???? And then the whole secret sister thing was so dumb and unnecessary specially with the ending in general, sure she played them all, tried to kill them, make Sherlock decide between his brother or best friend to die and then at the end "awww it's all good cause family :))))" like wtf
Have you heard about the John Dream theory? It is where TFP is John's TAB after he got shot. It happened because he got shot he could have died or in a coma
i can even say it in a few languages, cause this channel (and you basically) made my entire life worth living kocham cię te amo saranghae?????? okay i'll stop
Eurus would have been the ultimate test for those who believe themselves to be good communicators. Gosh, she is a tough, horrible one. I couldn't help wondering about how I would have talked to her were I in the situation of our three boys. You can't appeal to her empathy, as she seems to have none. Morality seems to be something pathetic to her, and she likes to belittle emotions. I would perhaps have asked her if all this made her happy, but she would have said something super clever/manipulative that had made me doubt the value of happiness. Heartbreaking when little Sherlock shouted "Redbeard?". Mycroft had (as usual) some glorious humouristic moments in the episode. "I have donated my brain to the something something royal academy", and "I though you liked my Lady Bracknell". Love it.
I would love to hear what you think after a year now that all the meta has been put out and we saw that John was shot at the end of TLD. I have watched TFP several times and now I feel like it's either John's TAB, considering his love of Bond films. I wish we didn't have to wait so long though for Season 5.
Being evil is mostly coming from a mental illness. The point is to understand how it became that bad. I really think you did not understood most of the plot points as so many others. Thats why this episode is dividing people so much. Bc half of the viewership does not understand it.
Well people mostly hated it because the shoe writers got lazy and threw mindless plot twists out of keft field for legit no reason. But i see where you're coming from, not all of it was bad, just most in my opinion
The walls weren't covered in blood. Eurus painted them red bc she was sick of the drab of the insane asylum 🤦🏻♀️ I'd love a list of your plot holes. I can debunk EVERY SINGLE ONE. I have to a bunch of ignorant people on Instagram too
I know I'm in the minority for this one but none of the other sherlock episodes emotionally connected with me at the level of this one. I'm in no way saying this is my favourite episode; it had many problems and holes as you pointed out. But for me, at least, I found it to be an emotionally satisfying episode and series ending.
I still don't get why they said it was gonna be "groundbreaking" "television history" and "never done before"
Like wow an evil sister
+High-functioning-fangirl I know exactly 😂😂
High-functioning-fangirl. t 👏r👏u👏e👏
and redbeard turned out to be a little boy. Actually, that part did upset me.
I swear this happened in another show.....
Very true.
Also, technically the idea of Sherlock having a sister has already been done (see "The Enola Holmes Mysteries")
Can I add; How does one smash a coffin to shreds with his bear hands without getting a single splinter?
It's made out of balsa wood.
oh you forgot Sherlock ignoring Vatican Cameos. God I wanted to scream. I watched this when it was leaked in Russian and it was so bad I thought it was fake and then when the real thing came on I just started crying.
Personally, I didn't like Eurus. Her whole premise was "mentally ill and therefore EVIL" and it just struck me as REALLY ableist.
Sailor Spaghetti It was the cheapest of plot devices... 😲
Sailor Spaghetti True. I am so done with metal illness = villians. So. Done.
Plus the mind control crap...
Thanks :)
I'm glad it made you feel better!
Shannon I agree with you on like 100 different levels
+Shannon WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT TO HER
AMillionMadMusings protect molly hooper squad 2k17
+Shannon I will ensure this becomes a thing.
Shannon Fox Yeah it sucks 😑
I would think there would be an extensive hunt for a neighbor kid.
they have just destroyed the most amazing series of our time
i couldnt agree more with how the way they treated molly. she deserve so much better 👏 👏👏👏
The whole episode was shite. Poorly thought out and a disservice to the series. They should never have introduced the Eurus character.
It is possible that you forget things. If they are so badly that your body and mental health just could not handle it your brain banishes it ;)
Not entirely sure if this is true or not, but apparently the whole idea of the psychotic secret sister wasn't thought up until after The Abominable Bride.
I thinks the same as you
+ilayda isitman I didn't WANT to hate it because there was things that I liked, but mostly I'm just very ambivalent. And your English is perfect! ❤️
AMillionMadMusings same!! Like i found parentlock really cute (but not enough, i wanted more of that 😅) or "THATS WHY HE STAYS" :')) but i found so many problems as well. And thank youu 💜💜 i am from Turkey so english is my second language that's why I don't trust my english so much
+ilayda isitman I want more. Give me a WHOLE EPISODE OF PARENT LOCK. Your English is literally amazing!! I wish I spoke another language 😅
Can i just say how much i love moriarty and Andrew Scott in general, because jesus on a boat is that man amazing thankyougoodnight
I swear, this is so relatable...Keep doing what you do
Thank you and you make a good point!
This literally sums up everything I thought about the tfp, what I liked and what I didn't like. So if anyone asks for my opinion I will just show them this video :D (sorry for my english)
.....Moriarty should’ve been an Main villain
what do you think the whole final problem being in john's "mind bungalow" because he got shot by Eurus and has an obsession with horror movies?
+Cat Feldman HEAD CANON ACCEPTED
+AdamIsTalking hmmmm I agree with you there. I guess we'll have to see!
Eurus. needed more hugs as a kid...
"This is the same episode where John's feet are tied to the bottom of the well and he climbs out using a rope"
CAN I GET A THANK YOU ASDALKDJAKLSJDALKSDJ
No honestly, this was one of the biggest issues I had with TFP. Some of the sloppiest editing I've ever witnessed in a show.
These videos are always so amazing and cute and relatable, it brightens my day :)
THE TRUTH HAS BEEN SPOKEN
I wonder though: the entire episode is so OOC, so full of plot holes, so inherently bad... could it be intentional?
IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO SO GOOD :'(
I agree with this on every level. I didn't hate the episode but it could've been so much better 😭
Really late comment. I am rewatching BBC's Sherlock and enjoy your reviews. Molly Hooper... I liked that moment because to me, no matter if you don't take BS from the one you love, admitting to him you love him is still a very vulnerable thing which I thought was done well in the show. She will continue to take no BS from him because that's who she's grown as, and even stronger as she has admitted her feelings to herself so she can move forward, rather than dating and almost marrying a doppleganger [no one's gon' talk 'bout tha'?]
All in all TFP I wanted two episodes of it where things can be better explored for both the concept of proper plot and character development and resolutions.
Not all budding psychopaths as children grow up to be serial killers [that's actually from my reading psychology articles, I'm not a self-proclaimed expert, but I am aware that media, books and movies romanticizes a lot the blurred lines between psychopathy and the tendency to be a serial criminal.]
Eurus since a child of five years old was taken away from her family and her siblings and grew apparently without nurturing so her development of empathy may have been further hampered, culminating in this cold serial criminal that she turned out to be.
Thank you for mentioning the blown out the 2nd story comment. My thoughts exactly.
You pretty much perfectly put into words how I felt about this episode…
+Isabella Maier you're welcome! ☺️❤️
I'm curious how their gonna no-homo-bro ™ John and Sherlock co-parenting if they do season 5
EURUS went to learn about Sherlocks life. She went back bc she was planning on brainwashing a bunch of ppl for her plan. 🤦🏻♀️
I needed this so much! This great review of everything that went wrong and why it was so bad.
+zxcbyyyy I'm glad you liked it 💕💕💕
You really laid down exactly the things I couldn't put into words about this episode.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go check it out.
molly hooper deserves better molly hooper deserves better molLY HOOPER DESERVES BETTER MOLLY HOOPER DESERVES BE
regardless though i think i agree with this review.. a lot???? like i really just didn't love it, especially because they built up to the "i love you" moment CLEARLY DIRECTING US TOWARDS THINKING IT WAS TO JOHN (i.e.
Scottish BeanieBatch is life
+Bárbara Barrio HE WILL NOW BE FOREVER KNOWN AS BEANIEBATCH
I AGREE WITH YOU SO MUCH BLESS YOU FOR BEING OPTIMISTIC!!! AHHhhHhHhH!!! AND THE PARENTLOCK AND JUST YESS
Even further, I'm glad you also acknowledge the flaws (and yea there were a lot of them) but you weren't h i g h l y negative about it in general.
Well so I completely agree with all the positive points and with the Molly point.🙈
For the rest I have to say that I actually enjoyed this season very much, it was different for sure and had its flaws but there were these wonderful Johnlock moments, lots of feels and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think you have to see it more as a kind of transition season for Sherlock to become the more human and wiser man he is in the late Conan Doyle stories. So if there is a next season I'm sure they'll go back to good old crime solving together 😊
nonetheless I understand all your critic points though I may see them differently and I'm glad there are still people who can deliver them without hating on anyone 👍 So that's why even if I don't agree with everything you got a thumbs up from me 😊
John didn't climb out using a rope. The rescue people threw it down to go down and get him. Also the explosion was at least a week before they went to Sherrinford. They probably WERE in hospital for days
perfect video lovely! i definitely needed this to help me cope with the latest episode.
You should watch The Theorizer’s video about Moriarty, it explains a few things you’ve said.
The bit at the end made me rock backwards and forwards while squealing
Being a little late to the party, i've only watched S4 last weekend, and it was so disappointing it left me more surprised than upset. The contrast between brilliant performances and that glittering rubbish of a plot was STAGGERING, particularly because so much care was put into visual detail. Honestly, it feels like Philip Anderson hijacked the direction process. My new headcanon: the whole season 4 is Anderson's attempt to sherlock a chain of events we'll be treated to in S5. Fuck, i'm angry.
Loved your perspective on tfp!
+DharanithaR thank you! ❤️
You've convinced me that the EMP theory or the unreliable narrator theory is correct.
I completely understand your points, it's a shame you and other people were disappointed. Having said that, I absolutely loved it, I was on the edge of my seat and its up there with my favourites now. Series 4 overtakes series 3 for me :)
+Katie Ruby I'm really glad people did enjoy it!! I'm glad you loved it 💕💕💕💕💕
Like honestly I feel like I could just share this video with everyone and then they'd know what my opinion on this episode is.
+Morgana Delacour I just felt really bad for her 😢😢 thank you for always writing such lovely comments love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just started watching your videos since the new Sherlock episodes and I can totally relate to most things you say. So at least that's a good thing S4 brought me XD And I love writing comments, especially when you can count on a response from the video maker, it's lovely to chat and interact with the content creator :-)
My interruption of this show: I NEED THAT COAT!
Plot holes and insufficient resolution? This is Steven Moffat writing, so it shouldn't be a surprise. He has done this to doctor who for years and made it unwatchable.
i just discovered you and i rly love you already
+jess thank you Jess!!!! ❤️
AHH YOU REPLIED UR WELCOME
There are like 3 things I liked about the whole season. THREE.
Thanks for this video.
Have you heard about the John Dream theory? It is where TFP is John's TAB after he got shot. It happened because he got shot he could have died or in a coma
This is now my new head canon.
what about the letter?
I know it's long ago and this is an old video, but I'm still confused about the little girl in the plane?? like tf happened to her????

Love it.
how do you manage to voice opinions i didn't even know i had or had no ability to articulate?
+EllesProbablyBelles ehehehehehe
@@lemonwater1108 Agree. Sometimes it really feels like they where cutting corners in a few things. But i loved the episode in general.

I know I'm in the minority for this one but none of the other sherlock episodes emotionally connected with me at the level of this one. I'm in no way saying this is my favourite episode; it had many problems and holes as you pointed out. But for me, at least, I found it to be an emotionally satisfying episode and series ending.
Civilty?
So. Accurate.
