Great video, the rear wheel houses on the convertibles are different from the hard tops. Also there’s steel reinforcements that weld under the rockers on each side
Good job but I hope you use the door strikers. I hope you use the top of the wheel well on both sides when you close the rack it goes down all the ways on the convertible conversion part but if you don’t use the top of the wheel wells that rock is going to sit really high, because hard tops have different wheel wells, there’s a whole bunch of different things in that car there’s all kinds of reinforcement pieces I’ve done this 100 times technically I’ve done it 96 times on all years of cars and I’m about to do it again on a 65 super sport I already have the donor car. I’m looking for a 65 super sport. If you hit that button on my page I will hit that button on yours.
@theremisterchopshop I’m going to be doing a conversion on a 62 impala also. I was told that I need a four-door impala trunk because it is shorter and the rack can lay all the way down. I know I have to reinforce the rockers and have to put the convertible brackets on the frame what else needs to be reinforced. Hope to hear back from you. Thanks.
The trunks are the same, the hinges and hinge brackets are vert specific , to make the rack lay flat u need the top of the inner wheel house from a vert or custom fab a relief for it to lay flat@jval1394
The work is coming out good I’m in the same boat. I have a 62 impala The previous owner had a fire damage to the dash which warped the roof gonna cut it off got a tub from a Buick LeSabre going to follow your steps. I am going to wrap the frame. Is there anything I need to do to the frame? I will fully wrap the frame though.
@@clrgarage9299 I don't know if that top you will work on the 64 but I know for sure it will on the 61. If not I'd buy it if you decide to sell it. l have a 62 and 64 l want to convert
The upper part of the rear wheel well is different on convertible so the rack has a place to lay down. You should keep the rear wheel wells and splice them in so the rack lays down.
@@clrgarage9299 I was referring to the rear filler piece in between the deck lid and the pinch weld trim You should have not cut that down the center and just dropped the whole tub in it would have made a much cleaner job

Will there be a update soon? Getting ready to start my 63 conversion and want to make sure I got everything before I go thru with cutting the top off
I’m on pause with it right now
Man I seen the short you did on the truck interior we need some content like that you are gonna have to start to hustle lol
The truck is mine, I lost a lot of footage at that time
Man you are a genius how did you ever figure that out can you do any car like that?
Anything is possible but gm made all these cars the same
Good video !!! I’ll watch all of them. I was told you need convertible trunk hinges on your hard top do you know if that’s true?
I haven’t gotten that far but I have them from the car I cut up and they look the same

@@TRUCKERSPEED10-4 $7000 you must have a two door or four-door and the donor car

Thank you, I’m buying the kit from hoppos to wrap the frame and that’s it
Do you have the convertible quarter windows?

Yea I noticed, ima flatten the new tub when I get to that point
@@clrgarage9299 Don't flatten the wheel wells it will lead to other issues use what you have already.
You cut up way too much You made this 10 times more difficult than what it should have been
The other cuts were because the car is getting restored anyway, not just for the convertible

He needs to save the rear wheel tubs for the rack can set down its set on top of them
