Some of the lighting effects are gorgeous especially since they had to be done by hand. The flickering light in the subway and the blue light from Cyrax's arm panel reflecting off his face when he self destructs are really impressive
Funny how when he was fighting the other fighters he couldn't get a flawless victory but he got them when he face montaro and shao Khan like it was nothing
Man, this was my favorite MK. Because of the on-point animation syncing with those sound effects when the hits land...yus! Plus the screen shakes. You really sense the brutality of it all.
I dnt know how to explain that feeling when I saw mk3 at the arcade machine for the first time.. It was just magic... Those graphics Sounds effects Shao Kang voice.. And graveyard stage... Great memories 👌
Could be because one of those would have been Sub-Zero if playing as anyone other than Cyrax due to Sub-Zero playing a key role in Cyrax's ending, but I can't say with any certainty.
Can't wait for the remakes. Like another world it's just such a beautiful game, i hope it has a similar old/new button for fast switching to what something once looked like in 16 bit in this case
Even the incredible motion capture and live action actors in the past that made the greatest impressions they can make for these characters also makes them all the memorable.
They should just remaster this exact game. this was the peak of MK. Just crisp up those graphics, and some new backgrounds, maybe a few extra cool things. And this game is sheer perfection.
Everybody freaks out about 2 Shang Tsung but nobody bats an eye when there are 6 skulls, 12 arms, 18 legs, 3 pairs of rib cages when one person explodes.
I completed this in a local arcade about a year after it was released. I too played as Cyrax. I couldn’t believe I did it. Unfortunately, nobody was there to see me do it. 😢. One thing that was so exciting about this time in gaming history, was the anticipation of them porting the game to your home system. In my case the SNES. It was beyond exciting to have the game, albeit scaled down, on your CRT.
Yeah the player doing the longplay was enjoyable to watch. Really enjoyed the fast execution of all the finishers possible that were offered on this tower. They definitely have a fighting style for regular players and one for bosses, but i guess a lot of us do.
Why does MK had to be so cheesy? Like when a person explodes there goes away like 32 feet and 15 heads. And what about in fatalities when you take away the guys head and the headless body keeps screaming?
Do you honestly think that in a game like mortal kombat where one can shoot a web out of nowhere, people can teleport, sub zero shoots iceballs... etc etc do you think they intend for they're games too be realistic ? Think..

The mirror matches and endurance matches were in the first MK. The mirror match was right before the three endurance matches. Other MK's subsequently had the mirror match too, but they could occur anywhere in the ladder.
Back in the day when I was playing MK3 for the Sega Genesis, Cyrax wasn't my favorite character at the time, but after I got older years later, I followed his stories thru the MK games, and he was such an awesome character and I started playing a lot now, and he's become one of my top ten warriors, I totally loved his human form in 2011's Mortal Kombat.
Gary Baker well they had to do something after they turn smoke heel to join with Noob Saibot and made Sektor just a badass. The only logical solution was to turn Cyrax face and give him more character development. Although they kind of retcon them since his original Mission was to kill Sub-Zero

(not counting sub zero or special forces because i never played them) i mean the characters and stages are AMAZING, but the thing that makes me hate this one, is the Freaking Combo system. like what the hell, that is why i quit MK3, i would always die on the 3rd 4th match. Specially with Scorpion, when he gets you with a Combo, he never stops!!!! and don't get me started on FUCKING MOTARO, once he gets you in the corner, you DIE!!! Oh, and with Shao? FUCK that FIGHT!! always does the fucking elbow push that is ANNOYING, i'm sorry, im a huge fan of MK since i was a kid, but FUCK MORTAL KOMBAT 3. at least on the rest of the games, there is no more " Combo Spam." like MK3.

Back in the day there was a bug/error in the first verson of MK3 where cyrax could throw the net and bomb too quickly... this allowed cyrax to keep boming and netting the other player indefinetly... loved it! I could beat ANYONE! Came in one day and they updated the game and there was a 'timeout' between net and bomb... boo fun over... :(
It wasn't until I had access to the internet around 11 years old that I realized that Cyrax had bombs. The CPU never used them and I never thought to hold LK to find out about them.
Cyrax was my favourite character. The sound fx in this game were way ahead of its time. That sound of the bomb rolling around on the floor is class 👌

The one thing about Motaro, he can't duck, so if you use a character that uses low kicking moves during a combo, then he can't counter you.

There is a Sektor combo that does like 94% damage if you are near corner.
Kabal has a 10 hit 70% damage combo, but it can be tricky to pull off.
