- My new bike is done! This a new 2018 KTM 1290 Super Duke R. I had it customized and I go over all the mods in this video.

The headlight is temporary, guys. I expect I'll be able to find someone to take the headlight apart and do it properly sometime, but I didn't want to keep this bike from you guys and have it sit around not being used. If I don't find anyone, I'll plasti-dip or wrap the headlight next time the bike is in for service. Thanks for the feedback, let me know if I can help by answering any questions about the bike!
The tape honestly doesn't look bad, and it looks better than that cheesy orange. So for now rock it, it's your bike and no one has one like it but you :)
Just take it to a vehicle wrapping company dude. They will do it beautifully with an opaque black vinyl film.
I’m unsure if the headlight is similar to automotive headlights but on my car I just warmed up the glue and the headlight assembly comes apart pretty easily, painted it and warmed the glue back up no worries! Bike looks great brother!👍🏻
Have you considered to use vinil wrap? I think it would be a lot cleaner and more permanent thhan the tape.. Also its not to expensive and you can do it on your own.

get rid of the cheesy tape on the headlight and get someone to wrap it in vinyl. You spent a lot on money on the bike, do that part right.

It's because that sticker has orange on it and his goal was no orange. But I see what your getting at.
@@MotoKing literally orange my fav color :DDD and probably why will get ktm or if i dont and get mt7 / 9 instead, i'll make it black/orange themed... i think ktm should start offering more themes/colors with their bikes.... trying too hard to stick out, orange is def not a color universally loved...
Instead of taping everything, you could probably find some nice 3m vinyl wrap.
Or just plastidip it 😉
@@maxmoller Yep, pretty much the same as vinyl, especially easy to do with spray cans if you just want a solid colour, both are available in spray cans too.
Just mask off areas you don't want it on and spray as you would paint, plenty of videos on here showing how easy it is to get good results. It's probably easier to pull off when you don't want it anymore than that tape.
From a guy who probably didn't cheap out at all on a Jeep and mods, i'm shocked you just used black marker and tape lol. I guess if it works, why not.
Hey! Don't knock "cheap". I needed a light cowl for my bike, I was getting too much light-wash from the headlight at night. Couldn't find one anywhere on the 'net so I took a offcut of 6 inch orange sewer pipe, split it and molded and shaped it to fit perfectly. A coat of satin black paint and it looks like an OEM part.
Walter could have trimmed the tape where it overlapped though, that would be tidier and less noticable.
@@mikesavage8793 Yeah I think it could look better if he just use vinyl or masked off a spot and used plastidip. That shit has improved so much over the years. can get it looking like oem paint.

or paint it by opening the actual headlight, people paint their headlights on cars all the time though you have to use an oven to soften the glue and pry it open

If I can't find someone to take apart the headlight and paint it, I'll plasti-dip or wrap the headlight when the bike is in for its break-in period service.

Walter, bro use Plastidip for your headlight instead of the tape. It's easy to apply and easy to remove if you wanted to. You can find it at AutoZone and even Walmart for like $5.Tape peels and fades faster in the sun where Plastidip wont. I used it on my truck to give it angry eyes and I haven't had any issues.
+1 tape look so cheap and disgusting fee
a bike that expensive and your doing this way to cheap... I think if you gonna do things like that at least make it 100% perfect... looks good when you see it far away, but then you start looking at the faults...

New bike is looking really good.
There headlights will usually come apart with the right amount of heat to weaken the adhesives. I would have a new housing available somewhere just in case, but it's normally not too hard of a process. Getting it back together can be a bear if it's not cleaned and glued properly.

i definitely like the ktm logo on front fairing where you put the R sticker over it. and I think where you sharpied the ktm on the side where it pops up that would actually look cool orange. black and orange is dope when its mostly black.

I think it looks really good. There's a lot of people saying you shouldn't have done stuff so cheap but honestly it doesn't look bad and it works so i don't see a problem.

I originally thought of getting an all black Super Duke but fell in love with SE model. I get making everything black but I think the beauty of Super Dukes is that contrast of orange and black. But to each his own.

I’ve had success with “plastic dip” ....aka rubber paint you spray on .It would be perfect for your front head light area and easy to wash and clean.

Kaizen Lighting is a place I used for my 2016 STI to have custom halos put in my car. He also can do painting and projectors if you'd like. You just tell him what you would like done, send him the lights and he does really great work. Also has warranty on his work if anything starts malfunctioning

Walter you could mask off your headlight and plasti dip its got to be better than gaffa tape. Being able to see the fluid in your brake resevoir gives you a visual indicator of how your pads are doing.( i know its brand new)
Man, you need a big, heated garage to keep your bikes and bike stuff in. But it is kind of cool to have them where you can sit on them to watch TV or eat breakfast. Cool.
I would obviously prefer a garage, but until I have one, this is the next best thing. It is really cool to be able to see them at any time, you're able to appreciate them more.
I want to get my Motocycle Driving License this year. This shit is insanely expensive in Germany ( dont knoe how it is in the us) but your videos set my decision into stone ! Im a huge fan !

Great looking bike Walter, and I'm super jealous about you having your rides in your apartment! If you wanted an alternative to the KTM luggage (which I assume is costly as branded stuff usually is), SW-Motech make a set of semi-rigid panniers which can be fitted to the Duke and also use a 'clip into discrete mounts' system. I've not used them personally, but British vlogger AndyManCam has an excellent video fitting them to his Yamaha FZ1-N. Can't wait to see your bike in action

Instead of the power parts bags you should look into the SW Motech blaze sidebags just better quality for less moneys
I think the SW Motech kit requires you to install this big rack or something that I didn't like, whereas the bike specific KTM one has seamless mounting.
@@WALTERRIFIC you have 2 bars wich you can take off by quick release but its still visable I just take the whole thing off when I am not using it takes me like 5 minutes I was trying to remember why I took the blaze over the ktm ones it was because the ones of ktm where interfering with my exhaust anyway great built and have fun with it best bike I have ever bought👌
Jeffrey Heideman I too am going to get the Motech bags. But because I don’t want to remove the rear fenders to clip on the PP bags. I have Gen 1. Not sure if it’s much easier on the 2nd gen

I always leave the bikes out for a few hours to let the engine cool down before rolling them in and I've never had a problem. 👍🏻

get the forks serviced as they put pretty much dish water in from the factory. when they are stripped fit black dust seals

I really like it. But I’m biased because I just love that bike. I think the one glaring issue is the license plate. Tons of little details all over the bike then the plate is just slapped on with reflectors (that really do nothing, since it appears the plate is lit anyway) and wing nuts holding it on

Shame you couldn't paint the headlight. The tape was done well, but sucks you can see the seams on each end piece.
Using Plastidip on headlights works wonders. Easy to apply and easy to remove, just peel it off like a band-aid.
You can pretty much get the headlight wrapped in red
Black plasti dip the headlight.
Tape off what you want clear, spray it, peel tape, and done! AutoZone sells the Shaker cans.
If you mess up, plasti dip Peele of easy, just redo it, it's cheap.
Not at all a fan of orange but i think it would’ve been a dope little highlight to the black in red, either way a good looking bike
Man that's a very nice bike and it does look a whole lot better without that orange.
Those frame crash bars fit the bike so well, I wish there could be some that protect as much and fit as good as these but for my bike :(

You should try plastidip on your headlight and other parts. Don't have to take off your light, and you can peel it off like a vinyl.
