The day care story said two other things to me. First parents needed the extra time. And second societal incentives favor jobs or careers over kids.
The nuclear waste example has me wondering if the nuclear waste can potentially hurt my ability to have a family or the future of my family then what does my obligation to the state mean. If the state does not facilitate human life what is it good for. Also how come I have to bare such a responsibility? Obviously such a responsibility can't be shared?
Great talk to listen to, though my English is not really good enough to understand all :D
Excellent questions from UBC students. I am very impressed.
This is very interesting to listen to in November 2021. 🙆🏻♀️
I do believe, there are companies, employers that do appreciate employees more than profit. Depending on the owners, good owners do care about employees enough to not screw their customers or employees. So, the general greed of all people isn’t a given truth or result. To uncaring, greedy, unethical behaviors by employers is driven by each individual to do what is right, Regardless of profit margins. Money isn’t everything!
Thank you for a good reminder!
32:27 - "If you start thinking about everything as having a price, it changes the way in which you relate to the things you're now attaching prices to." See too - Tetlock et al (2000) - "Phycology of the unthinkable: Taboo trade-offs, forbidden base-rates and heretical counterfactuals." &, Fiske (1991) - "The four elementary forms of sociality: Framework for a unified theory of social relations."

Banks and politicians get all the incentives..and never pay the price 🤷♂️🤷♀️ ..no kidding!
We need more B-Corps (public-benefit corporations.) Those with the "triple bottom line" goal: social, ecological, and financial.
The Swiss might have found it offensive being offered money because they were willing to make a potential sacrifice of their health for reasons of collective civic duty which proceeds from the Protestant Work Ethic and subservience to rules and self abnegation fir the common good and the offering of a financial incentive might have eroded the gratification of doing the right thing for the collective good. Be careful about your assumptions and hypotheses.
Soooo many rights,soo many wrongs.
Choose wisely?
his thinking is a bit confused and doesn't consider government effects on generating asset bubbles that he keeps attributing to market based pricing in isolation

Instead of fines, they should have TAKEN PICTURES OF THE LATE PARENTS, MAKE LARGE PRINTS OF THEM AND PUT THEM ON THE WALL OUT ON FRONT WALL OF THE DAYCARE UNDER A SIGN THAT SAYS "SHAME ON THESE IRRESPONSIBLE PARENTS!!!" ... People fear public judgment and ridicule above just about everything else!!!
That would put an end to the parents being late to pick up their children... if not tell them they will have to give a 15 minute presentation on 'why parents need to pick up their children on time and how to be a good parent.' For most people, Public Speaking is more Terrifying than almost anything else. I wouldn't mind, but then again, I'm a musician. I love performing. And I used to do group presentations for a sales job I had for many years. However, I wouldn't want my picture on the wall of shame... hahaha.
What makes you think "being descended from gods" precludes a tendency to tear each other limb from limb? Going by most gods' behavior, that pretty much their usual modus operandi...
Proof there ain’t one, at least the definition your speaking of. Assuming the Bible or koran

Christianity is based on the physical death of "son of god" and puts the blame on Mame (she wuz a jew). Plus that Yaμ줥 of the Old Testament covered his godly hands in blood. Good god; good grief....(any Bible of christian religion tells this story)

The issue is that companies aren't being made to consider the externalities of their actions, which are clearly messing up a lot of peoples' lives. This is a failure of any democratic government, because the people whose lives are being effected (namely, everyone) don't have representation in government to impact whether or not these companies are able to ruin everyones' lives. It has nothing to do with private vs. public. It has to do with externalities.
Democratic Government ... who you talk about, Kemo sabe?
GOVERNMENT per se ... at all levels from global to household ... is created from the human pecking order.
How can we 👍 for a carpet/tile company going environmental.. and accept a bank to use capitalism only? 😇/💰 !?

We can't have both.
We have it, those of us do that believe God made us in His Image as He told us in His Word sent down from Heaven in the Form of Jesus Christ. Still it is only for His belivers.

25:23 the Maasai were NOT colonized by the French. It was the English, and colonized wouldn’t be accurate either.
The Masaii don’t use ‘cash’ but do use cattle like cash/ wealth. The men are more likely to know the number of head of cattle he owns than the number of children he has fathered.
Nor are the Maasai the tribe I’d select as a representation of a fair, equal, charitable to try & counter the west. While true, some in west do put way to much on finances, it is not typically at the detriment of their family. As we attack/ shame/ & turn more from Christianity, we will see more of selfish, hyper individualism attitudes, and less of the orphanages/ free public education/ healthcare/ social services that Christianity brought (unlike the Maasai, who kill their mentally/ physically disabled)
I think his prononciation made you think that he said Maasai but if you listen carefully he said Mossé it’s an ethnic group in west Africa precisely Burkina Faso and yes they were colonized by the French.
I just want you to know that part is accurate but for the point he made that’s debatable as you said.
His concept is thoughts provoking and widely open for interpretation.
"It's funny to kiss your waitress but its offensive to give your mother a tip." NO. I would say giving an non consensual kiss to a stranger is much more offensive than giving your mum some money.

Look at how far we've come since 2012! I don't think he would give that example now.
Only if you are brainwashed, lacking any sense of independent thinking and manipulated by modern puritanical movements like me too. A kiss (not a French kiss) is one of the purest and nicest gestures of expressing affection and appreciation. Claiming that it's a grave crime worse than fucking giving your mom a tip is just ridiculous and as mentioned, a product of herd thinking and disgusting virtue signaling.
@@Mr00000111 I would be very offended if anyone kissed me at work. That is an original thought.
@@douganderson7002 No that is exactly what he said, and I disagree with it.
spoke for 45 min and didn’t say anything
His discussion revolves around "Purpose Movement" which is made up of companies adopting a foundation model which makes it impossible to sell a company for profit, to withdraw company capital, or to change a company's purpose. For the most part, these models aren't being deployed in the english speaking world yet, nor is media in english speaking countries reporting this, so it's difficult for you to recognize what he's referring to. Armin Steuernagel is a name you might want to look up to understand this better.

It's not "funny" to kiss the waitress. It's offensive, and why is the wait staff female? It's fun and funny to tip the mother in law. Interesting faux pas. I could not survive in your view and construct of "world".
If I worked hard to prepare a meal for my family I'd be happy to accept tips;)
Imagine being you. So hard, so jaded, so callous. Could not give a crap about others. Okay, maybe you and yours, but only if they are tough enough.
Nu Moon Mystic is too sensitive about the orators examples. It could have been a male waiter. Your taking everything too seriously, including yourself. You missed the point entirely. Lighten up a little. Geez!
