    Hi.
That was a monster of an Old Man Pine.
You and the team showed plenty of skill and safety with bringing it crashing down.
    Well caught on camera.
I worked for 34 years between 1972 and 2006 on different farms all over the Wairarapa Region, especially out east of Masterton.
I witnessed all the conversions of sheep and cattle farmland to forestry.
I understand it’s still going on.
    I’ve always liked your videos.
I’m really impressed by your work and safety ethic, the teams camaraderie, and your family values.
Keep it up because I know life can be a struggle at times.
Greetings to you and your mates from Matamata New Zealand.

This is a Radiata Pine native to the central coast of California, where it is also known as the Monterey Pine. In NZ it grows very fast and can be harvested for lumber in 25 years if grown in the right conditions. Various tree types originating in America were used by Farmers here from the 1800's to create shelter belts for stock , some were not so successful but others like Radiata thrived, annother example being the Monterey Cyprus, referred to here as Macrocarpa. The oldest radiata pine in New Zealand is at Mt Peel Station, South Canterbury. This tree bears a plaque recording that it germinated from a seed in Sydney in 1856 and was planted at Mt Peel in 1859 (possibly the first)
Radiata was selected as a feed stock for lumber in the 1900's as the much slower growing native trees played out. Plantation seedlings today are cloned and do not grow seed cones so as to enhance the lumber yield. The mighty Californian Redwood and the Oregon Pine is also grown here in significant commercial quantities, again both grow much faster than in their native country. The Redwood Sleepers sold at Bunnings (Similar to Home Depot) are excellent for raised Vegtable Gardens and general landscaping.

Takes me back to the 90s, when I was dropping and milling 165 year old pine and macrocapa in Hawkes Bay. Loved it,hard on the body .I turned all the smaller bits, into firewood. Used D 9 dozer to clean up. It was all on one farm. Shot 169 possums out of the trees first. That's why the farmer wanted the trees gone. In the middle of the drought, he decided to burn the rubbish, it caught onto the stumps, and burnt for weeks. The IDIOT, had to pay the firebrigade thousands of dollars to try and control the fire. It burnt underground caused by the flammable gum.

Good job guys. Planning takes time and stuff like pushing in a track costs money too. You will use that big bar again, no doubt. Stay safe. I don't know how you fellas do stuff but I used to keep alternate bars ready with chain in a box I made up. I used heavy cable ties to tie chains onto the bars.

Matty, I wish you'd consider taking on a tutor role. You're one of very few operator's that blend safety and production at such a high level. You'd make an excellent tutor, perhaps something to consider for when you get too old for running around the hills with an 090 on yer shoulder 💪
Prior preparation and planning prevented a piss poor performance.
    Stump audit... 10/10.

This tree and bar size must of been a roller coaster of thinking from game time, to party time. Bet it felt great to get it down and the risk over. That stump looks mint bro, counting the size.
What do you even do with tree this size in terms of sending it to a mill? I guess it's how long is piece of string and what mystery lurk in the heart of the wood and any knots.

Much light on wedges, 3 would be my minimum to deal with that. 3ft bar with a scarf bore could have easily put that down. My personal record is 7ft with a 3ft bar and 3120XP.
