@@heavypiano For real my dude, im a super picky guy when it comes to covers. You have managed to create your own take without selling out his emotion... Im in tears
This just goes to show that Elliott's music reaches beyond a solo artist on guitar, his music can be seen as classically brilliant and emotionally touching beyond anything he could have ever imagined. Miss ya Mr. Smith
The flow your fingers have and the way you mimic the plucking sound of the guitar was done so well. You put so much emotion into this cover... It seems impossible. I love it
It's like I'm back on that bus from Baltimore to NYC and I'm hearing this song for the first time again. I don't know how that can happen, but I thank you, heavypiano, for making it happen.
My daughter is 14, and she is obsessed with Elliott Smith, who has been her most played musical act on her Spotify for the last two years. Eternal music.
Hey Ethan, thank you so much for soooo much beauty. Hard to handle. It's definitively in my top 5 piano songs. I'm looking for some more songs in that kind of mood. Would you advice anything? Thanks again
Oh my gosh...This is the most beautiful version of the piano I've ever heard. Would you possibly have the sheet music so I could one day play this as gracefully as you? - Quincy
Quincy, thanks! I don't have sheet music but did create a tutorial of sorts to show what I'm playing. Hope this helps! ruclips.net/video/u5DDBMhQa3s/видео.html
truly amazing .. i remember weeping when I was first able to play a christmas song.. so to fathom playing this one would be wow.. the melody isn't so complicated.. but my fingers need practice.
Loving your Elliott and Radiohead covers - Spotify needs more of you - did you work a little bit of "Just the way it is baby" by the Rembrandts into this?
Hello Joshua, This is incredibly beautiful! I'm recovering from a brain injury, now I'm able to listen to music again, I've been listening to your channel today and it's truly mesmerising and astoundingly captivating. You're an amazing artist! I was wondering if I could use this fantastic piano piece that you created to create a cover version as a tribute for what would have been Elliott Smith's 50th birthday on the 6th of August? It would be me singing. (I have a couple of rough recordings on my channel if you wondered what I sound like.) It's a tribute and I'd be making no money from the cover. I would of course credit you. Thank you for reading. Please let me know. Best wishes, Luci
I really appreciate your kind compliments. I am thinking about taking these recordings and making an album, but I need to arrange mechanical licenses first. I already spent a bit of money on my last album, and have another album in the works that I'd like to take to the studio with a bassist and drummer, so I only have money for one project at a time!
every single score is amazing, if you ituned your videos or just the audiotracks themselves I can assure you, you would make back a lot more than you invested every. single. score. amazing
He was a master of melody and lyrics. Never devolving into plodding doom sounding music even though he wrote sometimes absolute psychological horror. There will be never be another Elliot. All due respect to Kurt but Elliott was the voice of my generation. It’s incredibly rare a musician of that caliber is also a brilliant songwriter and lyricist. In fact I don’t think there’s anyone really. Love Nick Drake and the usual comparisons but that was s different thing entirely. Nick Drake couldn’t sing Because perfectly or play Rachmaninov or sing about preparing for death.
I am finding it hard to be or atleast to sound crtitical. Even as i type, listening to your sound, i support my thumbs up wholeheartedly. It's an E.S. song. Have a good day, yet not but, i studder only in that i think you went from zero to hero......elevator to jumping out of a window higher up than usual. I digress because I fear pretention and honestly you killed it on twilight...i mean colorbars. you towed the line. solution. ballin dude.
@@heavypiano I usually sing this one which makes it harder to play anything complex under it. We are playing the same chord progressions. What I really need is one of your Grand Pianos
Hi @heavypiano. Nice job with the channel. Very Enjoyable. I'm a pianist as well and I would like to learn these songs from Elliott Smith and I was wondering if you can tell me where I can get the sheets for this and Miss Misery in the same form that you play them? Please let me know. :)
Hi Simplyfil88. Thanks for listening, it's so nice to hear that people enjoy my playing. I'm afraid to say I just play by ear and improvise as I go along, thinking more about the chord changes and singing the melody in my head. I don't have time to write out my arrangements at the moment but will share a link if I do ever get something put down on paper. Maybe you could slow down the video to pull the notes and chords from my hands? I realize not everyone learns that way but I always try to show my hands to help out other pianists if they want to grab notes that way.
Incredible.. Elliott himself would have been amazed! RIP Elliott Smith!
Thanks really kind of you to say, Matt.

Totally agree. Beautifully put!
Unbelievable
Thank you.
I have listened to this version countless time.

Man what a gift you have. So lucky to have all these covers on youtube
Thanks, Chris.
Listened to this countless times, and countless times to come
Thank you, Dave2241.
This made me weep uncontrollably. ❤️❤️❤️

Goosebumps. You literally gave me goosebumps.

I'm crying 😢 nine years later!
Masterfully done. I'm simply in awe.
Would it be possible for someone to isolate Elliott"s vocals and place them over the piano? Would it work? I would be interested to hear that.
I hear it in my head... and its wonderful
working on it

Wow... beautiful. Love that song. There's just something about piano... makes you feel a certain way no other instrument can
Thanks Hike.
This sounds remarkably like a Ben Folds riff, and I’m not complaining. He and Elliott are my life. Especially the latter.
Really flattered, thanks!
This gives me chills. Absolutely fantastic playing. Thank you for this.
