First found this video 10 years ago. I’ve kept it in my playlist here, but I hardly ever look into my playlists. So when I do, I get a pleasant reminder that this song, especially this rendition of it, exists. I’ve listened to this countless times, and it makes me feel so incredibly calm. It allows me to feel a sadness and maybe even a little bit bitter at the world while also feeling like someone’s allowing me to feel those feelings in the least judgmental and most calming way possible. Hard to convey. I’m just very glad that this is still here for me to listen to. Thank you so incredibly much.
This is honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. Both my parents died of cancer by the time I was 21 and it’s really hard to listen to very sad music that I love. But with your music it’s so much more bearable because it’s just so incredibly fresh and magical and with a voice so beautiful even the angels envy, it becomes a soothing and healing experience for me. This is sort of a first-time experience for me with music. It’s almost meditative. Thank you for this amazing beauty. 🎼
Goldenrod and the 4H stone The things I brought you When I found out you had cancer of the bone Your father cried on the telephone And he drove his car into the navy yard Just to prove that he was sorry In the morning, through the window shade When the light pressed up against your shoulder blade I could see what you were reading All the glory that the Lord has made And the complications you could do without When I kissed you on the mouth Tuesday night at the Bible study We lift our hands and pray over your body But nothing ever happens I remember at Michael's house In the living room when you kissed my neck And I almost touched your blouse In the morning at the top of the stairs When your father found out what we did that night And you told me you were scared All the glory when you ran outside With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied And you told me not to follow you Sunday night when I cleaned the house I find the card where you wrote it out With the pictures of you mother On the floor at the great divide With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied I am crying in the bathroom In the morning when you finally go And the nurse runs in with her head hung low And the cardinal hits the window In the morning in the winter shade On the 1st of March on the holiday I thought I saw you breathing All the glory that the Lord has made And the complications when I see His face In the morning in the window All the glory when he took our place But he took my shoulders and he shook my face And he takes and he takes and he takes
The tone of your voice is SO CONSTANT from high to low it's actually just perfect. I could listen to you sing anything seriously. And then as if that weren't enough you're playing the harp which just makes it 50 times better. Can you just cover everything. This cover is sublime. THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME
How to take the most beautiful of songs and make it sound beautiful in a totally different way. I love this. Very talented lady. Thank you for sharing. Brought me a lot of joy listening to you play and sing
In my entire life of listening to music, I have never heard a voice like yours. You have a special way of singing and it sounds absolutely beautiful. Keep it up and some day you will be on a stage in front of millions if haven't already. :)
My Nana played the harp. She was a Polish immigrant who had to leave everything behind when she was a young girl when her family fled Poland during WW2. She picked up the harp because she said the sound gave her hope and helped her feel closer to Jehovah. She passed away years ago, but every time I hear the harp I'm reminded of the hours I'd spend listening to her play. Those memories are precious to me, thank you for your beautiful playing.
i'm a big sufjan fan. i searched his name and this came up and i was a bit disappointed that a cover was at the top of the search results. i shouldn't have been, this is lovely. cheers.
Thank you for this piece. I usually listen to the original by Sufjan Stevens, but this version has reminded me of the beauty of what my sister represented.
Heya Mikaela, I like many others have just come here from bestofyoutube - I think your voice is absolutely beautiful. And your harp playing is very very lovely, I don't think I have heard a harp played with a "walking bass" (?) as you did to match up with Sulfjans lovely song. I really hope you do very very well and am very happy that "the internet buzz" has picked up someone as talented and fantastic as you.
I just enjoyed seeing Makaela in person in Chattanooga and I was wondering if she knew Sufjan, and here she is with the most excellent cover of my favorite Sufjan track. WOW!
I've posted this to my FB page and have listened over 20 times in the last 2 hours, played guitar and sang along with you every time and it just makes me happier and happier. I wish you nothing but the best, you are true talent.
This is one of my favorite Sufjan songs, so it was cool to hear how you arranged it. Those higher harp trills surprised me in a good way. So much sound. My musical friend Michaela McClain needs to hear you. Keep it up.
this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard, i picture the most serene and exotic surroundings nature can provide on a summer evening when i hear this song, while making me think only of what makes me happy..
Mikaela! I saw you perform last week with the Staves in Toronto! Your collective cover of Chicago was absolutely beautiful! What a pleasant surprise to come back here today, and to realize that you were the one who introduced me to Sufjan with this video a little over 5 years ago! Such a fan, love your work, please keep it up!
Me llamo Cristian Pacheco.
The simplicity of the harp playing brings elegance and beauty to every note. Coupled with your amazing voice i was taken on an emotional ride which very few songs manage to accomplish. I was completely mesmerised.
my grandfather passed away this afternoon, and listening to this song hours later has finally brought me some peace. thank you.
where ever you are, hope you're doing well tyler
I pray all is well
I'm 32 now, and I lost my Grandfather around 5 years ago, he was and forever will be the most important person in my life, I miss him so much, so much
Rest in peace ❤

How could you forget this??:)
Check out her Elliot Smith Twilight cover.
@@mattmeade983 Someone once showed it to me. I never knew her name or the name of the song.
Isn't that the greatest feeling? I've ran into that a few times, and I always feel elated.
Good Lord this is beautiful.
I can NOT stop listening to this. I think I account for about 100 of those views. Looking forward to your show at the Bug Jar next week!

Goldenrod and the 4H stone
The things I brought you
When I found out you had cancer of the bone
Your father cried on the telephone
And he drove his car into the navy yard
Just to prove that he was sorry
In the morning, through the window shade
When the light pressed up against your shoulder blade
I could see what you were reading
All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications you could do without
When I kissed you on the mouth
Tuesday night at the Bible study
We lift our hands and pray over your body
But nothing ever happens
I remember at Michael's house
In the living room when you kissed my neck
And I almost touched your blouse
In the morning at the top of the stairs
When your father found out what we did that night
And you told me you were scared
All the glory when you ran outside
With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied
And you told me not to follow you
Sunday night when I cleaned the house
I find the card where you wrote it out
With the pictures of you mother
On the floor at the great divide
With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied
I am crying in the bathroom
In the morning when you finally go
And the nurse runs in with her head hung low
And the cardinal hits the window
In the morning in the winter shade
On the 1st of March on the holiday
I thought I saw you breathing
All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications when I see His face
In the morning in the window
All the glory when he took our place
But he took my shoulders and he shook my face
And he takes and he takes and he takes
Her voice is hauntingly beautiful.
❤
