I have discovered your channel. I really like your almost extreme minimalism. For 5 years I have been getting rid of objects. It is difficult because new things come in, especially with 3 teenage children. Greetings from Spain.
Hi, and welcome:) I try to keep things are minimal as possible, but you are right, it is harder to be extreme when you have a family with children. I am trying to show that it is possible to have less things with a family though even if you cannot be extreme:) Thanks for watching and I am glad you enjoyed the video:)
I always give my teens a little more room to keep a variety of things they love! Teen years are always that way! We just love variety but I always tell them, if your going to buy something that means your ready to part with something else, usually they say no, I go ok. They learned to use the life out of everything they own, then they buy when they really need
Wow, i find this extremely inspirational! I’m slowly decluttering my life again after moving back in with my mother bringing along my toddler and cat. Thank you!
My pregnant fiance and I are going to attempt to live in my 600sq ft condo with her 6yo son. This will be quite interesting. I just bought it last year and don't want to sell already. Great inspiration seeing other people make these types of situations work. The main concern is we're above a quiet guy, and so we're going to put thick carpet on top of our vinyl plank so he has his peace and quiet for the most part (I hope).
Wow, this looks very minimal, even for me. I like it though and I'm sure it's pretty easy to keep clean. It must be so fun exploring the area and trying out new places to eat. That's awesome you found a vegan bakery! 💕
Yeah it’s pretty minimal, ha ha ha! The apartment is so small it kind of has to be in order to have some space. Yes we love exploring and spend 2 hours every night after dinner just walking around :) The vegan bakery is by my husband’s job so it’s really convenient 😊
Lovely video! Beware of sleeping on a futon on top of carpeting! It can end up destroying the carpet underneath due to body moisture, then invading the carpet causing mildew. I'm going from an experience I had back in the 90s living in the UK in a rented flat. Had to replace all of the carpeting in the room. Maybe roll up the futons during the day and keep an eye on it. Warm vegan greetings from Switzerland (with the hope of moving to BC in the next couple of years!).
Thank you and thanks for letting me know about the futons. I appreciate it:) I do fold up the futons, I just had them out for the video, but I am glad you told me. I will keep an eye on that:)
it was the first minimalist home video I watched that doesn`t have formal beds. It is just a great idea cuz we can fold up. I found it perfect for a kid's room, to have the bed spot clean for play with toys, lecture, or whatever, without being on the bed, which seems more "lazy" and occupies a lot of space. I loved that.
Hello there! Your home is so lovely - thank you for sharing. Would love an updated video as you have really shown that it's possible to live minimally even with children 🙏
I live in a two bedroom house - it's about 585 square feet. I've been talking about replacing the beds with Japanese futon mattresses for a few years and have Freecycled our spare room bed, but not our bed. I really think they might be the only way to make tiny bedrooms not feel so tiny! I'll have to show your video to my husband.
I adore your new place Jennifer🤍 Beautiful airy finishes and an overall homey yet morning home!! I loved the airy kitchen and even your bamboo kitchen tools & your side table in master bedroom is awesome too😊 Congrats on your kids getting tiger and salt lamp again! What a cool shot of art at the end too😇 Wishing your family a beautiful weekend! 🙏💕

Just came across a few of your videos. You look like a very very nice person and you have a wonderful family. I wish you and family all the best in your new home.
Hi Jennifer! I lost following your move to Seattle, as I went through some large life changes at the same time. I am so happy to see your new place, it's lovely! I ended up buying a property on the WA coast, just south of Olympia! Lol futons, they are great!!! Thank you for the inspiration!
Lovely 🌹 I have a much similar set up like you in my apartment in Lahore. I'm a busy teacher so I'm minimal. Beauty of simplicity and peace is reflected in your apartment. God bless you always !
I am really into minimalim and i am constantely decluttering our own stuff (family of 4). But for me this is what i would say to extreme, because it is not feeling like a home for me. For sure it contains everything you need and some small extras, but i like interor desingn to much, to go this minimal. Hope it works for you.
Wow totally gorgeous. 😍😍😍😍Love the apartment. It's probably twice the size we have with our little boy (2yr old). That's not our choice, we can't afford to buy anything bigger where we are in The UK England. 🇬🇧
Just saw this; suggested bc one follows other minimalists. Question: are there no thrift stores near you? Thrift stores are full to the brim with reusable less expensive dish wear, cloth, bags, etc. The dishes themselves can be from eras when sustainability was a given (ceramics, metal, etc). Oh, ppl can have a bed/beds and be minimalist, right? Wish you all the best.
We live in downtown Seattle and I haven’t seen any thrift stores in the area. I think most of them are in the suburbs, we also do not have a car so transporting large/heavy items is difficult:) Being a minimalist is not contingent on the type of bed you have, we just prefer Japanese futons because they are easy to around. Our son sleeps in the living room at night so we needed a bed that could move from one room to the other as there are no 3 bedroom apartments in downtown Seattle. Most families live in the surrounding areas:) ✨
Very lovely video! You have so little in your fridge 😳 Mine has way too much for 2 people. May I ask what do you do for meal plans as minimalists? Or at least what meals do you rotate throughout the week?
Thank you! The video was taken maybe a week after we moved to Seattle so we had not had the time to properly grocery shop. Now that we are more settled our fridge is over filled:)
@@TheMinimalistFam Right, that's true! Moving means less food right away. Are you planning on doing a WIEIAD (What I eat in a day) minimalist family edition any time in the future? :)

Greetings from Florida 😁 I just subscribed...great videos. Your bedroom seems very nice and comfortable. What type mattres do you have. ? In the past I had a quite heavy Japanese futon that it had to be taken outside for weekly cleaning and air. It was too much for me so I got rid of it. It's yours similar? Hi! Thanks so much. Our futons are pretty light weight. I air them out everyday to prevent mold, etc. I got them on Amazon. I have the link in the video description if you are interested:) I hope you have a great weekend✨
For a family of 4, you've been able to be Spartan in your furnishings. May l suggest purchasing 2 single bed frames and mattresses for your children. There are so many minimalist frames, even a base frame. Having proper beds to me represents permanence besides carpet isn't the most hygienic material to be sleeping on, even with daily vacuuming.
We are not planning on living in this apartment permanently. We moved here to explore and get an idea of where we want to live long term. Once we have found a place that has enough space for our family we may think to upgrade our furnishings:)
If lockdows, illness, loss of job happens you need to have more food. Stuff you eat like peanut butter and canned stuff.. fill that tiny pantry shelf up for emergency! I shop Goodwill.. plenty of dishes... And household stuff.

Yes they have a couple of stuff animals and video games. They mostly just like using their iPads or drawing 😊I show some of their toys in my minimalist kids bedroom tour:)
Sleeping of the floor is bad for your lungs, especially on a fitted carpet. 80% of all dust in the air of a room is in the bottom 3 feet of the air......
When you said the plastic wrap was for the kids lunches I was shocked that you have kids. What do they eat? There is pretty much zero food in that house. There's nothing to pack in their lunches. And you hardly have any pots and pans to cook anything. This is one of the most depressing videos I've watched. You make your kids sleep on the floor? This is borderline child abuse.
This video was taken shortly after we just moved in to our apartment. We moved all the way across the country, so we were lacking many things that we have since replaced. The first few weeks of living here we mainly ate takeout until we had time to organize things. The kids do not sleep directly on the floor, we have traditional Japanese futons that people have used to sleep on for a very long time . Also, this is our temporary home, until we figure out where in the Seattle area we want to settle down and live.
I think my apartment does have a cozy atmosphere to it, but everyone has their own ideas about what they like and don’t like:) I hope you have a happy new year 🎊

Not as minimal as my place, but not bad. Some cluttered areas on counters and in cabinets. You put your toothbrushes right where bugs tend to crawl. Ew.
