    • @BiffsEquipment

      Thanks buddy! The Kubota BX really is a fantastic machine and the whole reason I even started this RUclips channel was so I could show others what such a small/compact tractor could do in the right hands because most people see it and think its just toy. I have worked my little tractor to death doing jobs way bigger than it was intended for and its never not completed a job or left me stranded.. Kubota builds some of the best equipment in the industry and if you take care of this tractor it will out live you. They are extremely versatile and are light weight enough to tow on a smaller trailer with a smaller vehicle great for bringing on jobs yet heavy and powerful enough to do real productive and professional work. You'll have to let me know what you end up going with! id recommend a BX or B-series Kubota by the sounds of it.. The B series is great too if you need a little more power and have the space for it. If I were you id go to a local dealer and sit on them and ask to test/drive them to see which one fits you best and what fits your application best but you cant go wrong with either one of them that's for sure. Thanks for watching!

      @@BiffsEquipment The BX is the one I can afford. I live in Germany . The market for small tractors is quite small. Kubota machines are the most expensive ones, to my knowledge. They also are regarded to be the best quality in the market. There is no second hand market to speak off. People keep them for life. Machines thirty years and older are offered for insane prices.

    Great video Biff! i was surprised that part by the house wasn't just soup........he should really put an extension on that downpipe and get that water further away from the house. Working on wet material certainly presents its own challenges but once again, you made it look easy. I did my driveway in the spring. It's about a 1/4 mile long and I have never done it since I owned that house. That last owner just kept piling more and more stone on it. So I took my box blade and dug up the base pretty good. I took the backhoe on the BX25 and trenched both sides of the driveway and then dropped a layer of item 4 on the trenches. Then, 4" corrugated drainage pipe wrapped in landscapers cloth, then filled up to base level with the rest of the item 4. The pipe goes all the way down to the culvert. Crusher-run it the key brother - it packs well and it cheap. I wanted road grindings but couldn't get enough to do the whole project.....everybody wants them now and the town rations it all out now....BASTARDS!! LOL!!.... thanks again for such a great "how-to" video. I'm always amazed how good you are with that FEL!! How did you make out with the GoPro? I know you were getting frustrated with it. I cut 3 videos with it and posted one. the other two I'm editing as we speak. I'm thinking of a drone next. Whadda-you-think?? Good luck and Godspeed - talk soon!....

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад

      Hey man thanks again for the kind words! Yah it was def a challenge with all the water and the ground being so soft. I did however tell him about moving or extending the gutter; there is no doubt that’s why it’s soaking wet over in front of their door, he is gonna put an extension on it I think. Sounds like you fixed your driveway up real nice and gave the water some where to go! That’s what you gotta do. As for the road killings or blacktop killings that’s what I use at my own house, they deffinelty do the job when your on a budget but don’t pack in quite as tight or as nice as crusher run as millings doesn’t have any Rock dust to hold it all together and often I track it into my house on my boots but it’s certainly not a bad material that’s for sure. Thanks for watching as always! I’m excited to watch your new videos, thanks for letting me know!

    Another question.... do you run the tractor in high or low on a job like this...or when would you recommend each? Great stuff, and thanks for answering all our questions!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад +1

      Hi Tom, I typically will run it in low gear when grabbing stone or dirt from the pile and then will shift back into high to get to my destination, once there I will usually put it back in low to initially spread the piles of dirt or stone and once the majority is spread I will then shift it back into high gear to do my finally grading.
      So I would say initial grading should be done in low and final grading can be done in high as it’s less load on the tractor. There have been days where I leave it in low gear for nearly the entire job but that’s only because I was in a hurry and it’s not good for the transmission because it makes the trans work 10x harder in high gear when applying heavy loads and pushing hard into dense piles. Hope this helps!

    With the extra pressure increase on the FEL, how are you feeling about the amount of pressure put on the front axel/seals/tires with the extra weight you can pick up? I haven't adjusted my machine from factory ~1750 PSI (though have the parts for the pressure kit) since I am able to really squat the front tires with the factory set pressure relief.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад

      Hey, So the extra increase made my front rims about touch the ground in this last video, Deffienltly need to keep an eye on front tire pressures and increase them as needed. I typically run mine about 24psi but will be increasing them now to about 26-28psi. As far as the front axle goes, I have no doubts it will be just fine, Kubota overbuilds these front axles on the BX by a lot, I doubt you'd ever hurt the front axle if your not abusing it.. and even then I feel it could prolly handle it. Once you adjust yours let me know how you like it and report back, I find it adds a TON of extra (much needed) power for the BX.

    • @CarlsonSonLandscapingLLC
      @CarlsonSonLandscapingLLC 3 года назад

      @@BiffsEquipment Yeah, I have been running my tires a bit higher PSI as well, around ~24-25 PSI. I also definitely have that same front turning cylinder bracket issue as you, with the thumping upon tight turns. My tractor is around ~400 hours and noticed the sound around ~300 hours (Good find on that one, made me realize what the sound was on mine as I was baffled since I couldn't find it). I plan on upping the pressure this week and doing some rock work, I will let you know how it goes. The BX can definitely use some extra FEL lifting power for sure. Thanks!

      Hey Todd, yes I do have a bucket level indicator on my BX, Kubota only makes one for the newer BX80 loader but you can prolly make it work on their older loader as well. I got the bucket level indicator for a $60 add on price when I bought the loader.. I used it a bunch when I first got the loader but after a few months I was so use to the loader that I stopped using it.. but it still comes in handy from time to time with setting it for differnt implements and it’s a great thing for for beginners to have to help them learn where level is on their buckets so I highly recommend it even tho I rarely ever give Mike a glance anymore lol. Best of luck!

    Are you always floating the bucket when back dragging?

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад

      Hi Tom, Not always, it all depends.. this gravel was very wet and heavy so I didn’t do much floating at all on this job cuz if I floated the bucket it would just ride right over top of the pile I’m trying to backdrag so for the most part I had to put quite a bit of Down pressure on it at different bucket angles to get it to grade how I wanted to. Wet gravel is always tough to work with. Thanks for watching!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  2 года назад +1

      Do you mean how am I scraping up the sod? Or how am I picking material up in general? When you scoop stuff up you often want to have a bit of speed if it’s a tiny pile otherwise you may end up pushing it around, as you drive into it lift and curl at the same time. As for stripping sod like I did there is kind of an art to it.. you have to really go by feel, you get your cutting edge at the right height you want and then leave your boom there as you slowly push forward, if you feel the resistance becoming too strong or see the boom getting pulled down then you need to boom up slightly so you can stay at the same level you started at.. if it suddenly starts to get too easy to push into then you know your starting to come up to high with the cutting edge and need to apply slight down pressure on or curl the bucket lip down more slightly. It’s really hard to explain in words but I plan to do a video on it sometime this summer. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

I just used constant downward pressure with the bucket angle until I felt I had a good bite and would then curl the bucket back slightly as I continued to feather the loader up and down as I went forward. Hope this helps!

    How much difference did you notice after upping the pressure to 2250? I have a bx23s and have contemplated upping it even just to 2k for that little extra lifting power and breakout capability.

      Just going from stock pressure to 2,000psi I gained about 150lbs in lift/break out.. it was a considerable difference from stock and I had it like that for almost 2 years I think with out any issues, then I went to 2250 which I wouldn’t really recommend as not many people have done it and I havnt used the tractor for more than just a few jobs since.. this is why I figured I would be the gunipig for anyone wanting to try it. I would say if I don’t have any serious issues in the next year or so that it’s prolly pretty safe but 2,000psi is usually where people bring it to and I have yet to see one person have an issue at 2,000psi.

      As for it being at 2250psi, I felt about as much of an increase in power as I did going from stock to 2,000 as I did going from 2,000 to 2,250... it’s quite a big difference. Hope this helps!

    How much rear ballast do you use? Do you run loaded rear tires?

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад +1

      I run loader rear tires as well as another 200lbs in suitcase weights on my custom wear weight bracket. I use to never lift the rear end off the ground with the additional weight until a video before this when I increased my loader pressure even more, now it will lift the tires off the ground as you can see in a few spots on this video but that being said it’s still very stable but I will be adding 2 more 50lb suitcase weights soon. Thanks for watching

    my question is about your trailer. I've ordered a bx23s with the back hoe and I have a 12 ft single axle trailer and I see you haul yours on one smaller than mine. will I have any problems hauling mine?

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 года назад

      It’s gonna be a really really really tight fit if it even fits.. you might be able to turn the backhoe sideways and make it work with the gate closed but you’ll have to put the FEL up on top of the side rail like I do, mine barely fits with my quick hitch, my rear weights, and my hitch off the back with just the loader.. it’s a tight squeeze and my trailer is a heavy duty trailer with a 3500lb axle but it still is quite a bit for it.. I would deffinelty recommend selling that trailer for a tandem axle specially cuz you have a backhoe and that’s a lot more weight right there.. you also may have a tough time keeping enough tongue weight on your hitch.. if so you’ll have to get a larger drop for your hitch to move the front of the trailer down lower to apply more tongue weight. I would def think about going with a 14’ minimum tandem axle. Hope this helps!
      PS. I plan on going with a tandem axle next year 👍🏻

      @@BiffsEquipment spot on with the tongue weight.

      I have a 16' double axle for my BX. If you are going to put anything on the back like a box blade, tiller, or backhoe, I would get a 16' for sure. You can have the loader down on the bed, and still have a couple of foot behind the trailer. To @Biff's Equipment point, getting that tongue weight will be important. I had my box blade on with the tractor, and the weight was just to the front of center. Check out some of the thumbnails on my channel to get a good picture of what a 16' will fit a tractor like. One of the thumbnails shows both my BX and G on the trailer at the same time.

      @@HuserHelpers yep exactly man. Great advice. And I sure will. I’m looking for a 16’ to 18’ tandem next spring:. My trailer did it’s job for 2 years but it’s time to move on.. need a much bigger trailer for the work I do and hopefully for the new implements that will be coming in the coming year. I’ll def be back to your channel man been meaning to watch some more of your videos just been so busy making new videos lately trying to find the time to get it all edited and I know lots of people are waiting on me lol
      Thanks for watching man and helping out 👍🏻

      Get a land plane, cut the base flat before throwing stone on it. The holes will just return if you don’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@doomman700 yes or even a box blade. If there’s a lot of gravel it what help distribute it around the driveway.

      @@doomman700 if you watch my other videos dooman I Always cut the base and grade the base before putting a fresh layer of stone down, this was litterally the first time I didn’t and that’s only because he just wanted a quick job done before winter filling the low spots, I wasn’t there for the potholes either I just threw some Over them as I had extra stone at the end. The driveway will be tore up when the snow flies in a few weeks or so and this was just to get the driveway so it was useable again as I explained early in the video. Next year I’m going back to do the full driveway and will be cutting and grading the base before installing all new stone. This was just to get him by before the snow flies.

      @@msclawnmaintenance for sure, I have a boxblade but it’s too large for my tractor so I don’t use it much, next summer I will be selling it and buying a land plane or grader box. Implements cost money, and sometimes when you can’t afford them you gotta use what youv got.. this is why iv been using just the FEL and loader bucket for most my jobs this entire summer. Thanks for watching.

      As far as 3/4” minus I used -1” because as you can see the driveway was very wet, the larger the stone the better it will hold up in a wet environment.. the smaller the stone the greater the chance It can sink so I felt -1” was a good happy medium.

      I work at school district where I plow all winter every year in a huge 70hp tractor with a 10' pushbox and also use a n F350 plow truck with a huge salter on the back that blocks the whole rear window so if I can handle driving around/plowing in a snow storm with literally 100's of teachers and students running around as I'm avoiding tons of obstacles and moving vehicles then I think I can handle backing up my little tiny tractor on a small side job and knowing exactly who or what is around me when I back up... Its all about knowing your surroundings.. Why don't you record yourself running equipment as you do a job so we can see how its done. Id gladly watch it and see what I can point out for you.. Nobody is perfect but judging by your comment I assume that you think you are.
