I can't stop listening to this over and over - it is totally mesmerizing and the changes are absolutely breath taking: For example at 1:46 and then again at 2:20. the high point around 3:30 - 4:00 is ueberirdish (there isn't a good English word for this: beyond planetary, out of this world). And the drummer is totally in heaven - look how happy he is! That's how I feel too listening to this.

@urmelschaaf For real he's from Poland, but he LIVES IN NORWAY. But he can speaking in polish and is registred in Poland. So as a polish guy I'm very proud of him. Because he's one of the greatest sax jazzmen ever.

Because Garbarek is playing in this specific harmony, alternately over the chords G minor and A flat major, the first and second note of the scale he uses, as well as the 5th and 6th note, are half notes (g-a flat and d-e flat). This gives the oriental feeling. The change of chords is typical Spanish and you hear it in Greece as well. Chick Corea has used it often too. By the way: his scale is called 'ousak' in Greece.
