    Are you sure Jess bonked? The smile on her face when she says, "When you bonk, find a Sugar Shack..." Did she see the Sugar Shack first and then the bonking symptoms set in? 😛
    Congrats on finishing strong!!! 💪

    Wow that French toast looks awesome, good for you Jess. I always over pack with all kinds of food on longer rides, Cliff, Skratch Labs bars, Bananas, Gels, Skratch Labs in my bottles. That route looks flat compared to your other rides.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad

      @@aaronhamlen8215 ha ha yep our pockets were full of food but she had the day off and we weren’t racing. So we sat and enjoyed a sit down meal and some laughs.
      Yes this route is fairly flat compared to our “normal” routes. First leg Northbound is all cross/headwinds. The return leg, Southbound, IF you start heading south early enough you will catch a tailwind. In the morning we did a lot of work for the first 50 miles then more mellow headed home. The last 9 miles are always a bear. When I did 200 miles last Saturday those last 9 miles plus a few extra because I was short 200 were really difficult. The climbs range from 6-10% at the very end of your day. Ooph!! 😂
      Thanks for watching

    I've found that long stops can destroy you. Your body switches to "ride is done" mode and sometimes there isn't any way to get it back.

      Todd I was talking to Jess about your comment and she says that's exactly what must have happened to her. She was riding so well up until the turnaround point then just 5 miles later we stopped to talk to our friend Mark. We were there almost an hour and by the time we got back on the bike she was done. Thank you for commenting!!

      @@jessicacheck179 It nearly happened to me yesterday. We were only doing a quick 50, but it was 100° out and I stopped to wait for others for about 10 minutes. When I got back on the bike, it took a few miles before my legs didn't feel like cement and I never fully recovered to how I felt before that stop. You are a trooper though and I'm glad you were able to finish!

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Месяц назад +5

      @@LTBlightthebeam the Bonk Buster WAS delicious! 🤤 Here in San Diego there are several sections of various interstates and highways that bikes are permitted to ride on because they do not have surface streets.
      This particular section of Interstate 5 runs along Camp Pendleton US Marine Corps base. They issue passes but they can revoke them at anytime or suspend privileges of riding through the base. It is completely legal, and if you notice there are a few clips where you see yellow signs that say “bikes on shoulder”.

    Nice matching kits. Okay, Jess I am glad you found some food to get fueled to get home (great meal). I do have a question for Jess. Does (Jess) she use your product (Rev Energy)? Stay safe the both of you on those interstates❤❤

    • @jessicacheck179
      @jessicacheck179 29 дней назад

      A very keen question. I feel naked & ill-equipped without REV Energy in my bottles... even if it is just for a little ride. During this ride I had my "standard" of about 600 calories per water bottle. At the halfway point (mile 50/3 hours) I had already emptied one bottle PLUS about 600 calories in "pocket food" -- way over my calculated needs (I figure 250 calories/hour) -- so we were both baffled by this bonk. Another comment left below shares the only explanation that George & I considered, that a very prolonged, unexpected stop to chat with a friend road side just after the turn-around did me in.

      Day 1 - 187 miles with 11,000 feet
      Day 2 - 176 with 10,000 feet
      Day 3 - 150 ish with 8500 feet - it was the shortest day and the least amount of climbing and I had nothing! I kept eating and drinking but I had no power ! Longest day of my life!
