Every year that movie becomes more and more relevant. It’s like it predicted the future in a way except instead of there being one Truman, we are all becoming Truman WHILE simultaneously being the audience for other little Truman’s. Many of us like the couple featured here aspire to become Truman’s and use their personal lives to push products as a career. Which sounds exciting but is the ultimate sellout because how can you live authentically if the one place you can truly be yourself, in your home and with your family is for sale to the highest bidder.

This reminded me of the Gabby Petito case, although not to that extreme obviously but it gave me those vibes. She had a van life vlog she was hoping would really take off and supposedly it was doing well.
All the while she was showing a happy, carefree lifestyle traveling the country she and her boyfriend were slapping one another around behind the scenes. Apparently at least one of the fights was that he was frustrated she spent so much time along the way stopping at cafes to make the videos which is like what think before you sleep was saying about content creators spending alot of their life behind a screen instead of just living.
Their happy, carefree, fun van trip was not what it seemed, in more ways than one. I don't think I have to tell anyone how it all ended, but just in case for anyone who may not know, her body was found in Grand Teton National park with her boyfriend taking the van back home then vanishing. His remains were found with a self inflicted end and a confession months later near his home. What else is behind the curtain of these fake looking vlogs?

My wife and I chose very early on in our marriage that our kids would basically not be on social media until they were at least teens if not almost adults. We rarely post pictures of our son on Facebook, and usually it is only for milestones like Birthdays or really big events like Christmas. We live in a unfortunate time that has a lot of predators. And one of the places that predators look is at parents’ social media accounts. I can’t remember the video but a well know child abuser was interviewed once and he basically said as much, that’s how they get to the kids is through the parent, and they find the parent by how much they post about their child on Facebook, Instagram, etc. It’s important to keep our kids safe and to teach them good habits in the process.

    • @roserevancroix2308

No predators look for children on Tinder, and they also go to sites that post the material that they want.
The only people that go to social media accounts to look at other people's kids are women.
No one else cares, you don't know shit about predators. Also fun fact - did you know that the waste majority of rapes and abuse take place in the family and in your home by a close family-member, relative or friend? Have a great day!

I'm glad you covered this, but believe it or not the ACE family aren't even the worst of the family vlog offenders. For example, 8 Passengers have documented repeated neglect & abuse of their children, such as refusing to bring their 5 year old daughter lunch to school because she didn't prepare one herself, skipping buying the younger kids Christmas presents to teach them the "gift of love" (while still getting presents for the older ones), or taking away their son's bed for SIX MONTHS, making him sleep on a beanbag, because he pulled a prank on his brother. There's also the Stauffers who profited massively from adopting a special needs toddler from China, only to give him up like an unwanted pet a few years later when the effort required to care for him outweighed the benefits of keeping him for videos (AND had the gall to cite the cost of his therapy as a reason to abandon him). Most sickeningly, there are also parents who knowingly post videos of their little children doing rather... *suggestive* activities which hit a very... *specific* demographic of viewers (going to end there because going into more detail would make me want to vomit).
The nonexistence of privacy family vlog kids have is horrendous, I'm talking documenting a young girl's first bra shopping trip or a toddler's "potty training journey," shoving a camera in their faces while they're sick, injured, or crying, or discussing at length their disciplinary/academic issues. At least with child actors a percentage of their money legally has to be saved for them and their private lives aren't put on full blast all the time, family vlog kids are entitled to nothing, so their lives are ripe for exploitation. There NEEDS to be something done about this, these kids are going to have so many issues in the future and didn't sign up for any of this.

That is maturity. Not learning and refusing to change what is proven to be wrong or unhealthy is immature parenting. I never watched family vlogs but I have found homesteading and off grid videos interested because that's what I want to do. After we bought our hobby farm I realized that having a farm, a family and my husband still has a 9-5 is basically all the time, more than we have really. I then realized these homesteaders and off grid channels are probably taking tons of time to sit behind a screen that their homesteads need (work is never done on a farm) and the off grid types are even more ironic because the point is to not be connected. It made me sad to realize that their videos represent almost an opposite lifestyle of what at least had attracted me to watch them in the first place. Now that I have my own I feel less like watching anyway, as you said it was a living vicariously thing, and I have books on the subject if I need help/ tips.

She's almost 3 years old and there will never ever be any pictures or videos of her on the internet. She does attract lots of single ladies going Awwww she's so cute! I have mixed kids too and once my relatives know about them they immediately ask me that i should sign them up to be models. I don’t even send my mothers pics of my kids because she will post it on social media to get likes. I don’t post my kids on social media.
