Great safety tip Jess. Doing foundation work I can vouch for those sudden collapse's that will happen and water will be the leading cause just about every time. The wetter the wider is a good rule of thumb. Thanks Jess👍
Prospecting alone is always risky, and digging, like you said, simply adds to the chances of me not being able to get out. But that's what I do because I have no partner available, most of the time. I'm just at the level that I need to make my upside down layer cake hole or timber it. At 77, every bucket weighs a little more than the previous one, so timbering is my only option. I sample frequently, so I'll widen the hole if it pays at that level.
Jess, You know how the mountain climbers do it there’s got to be something to hold you in that hole pneumatically like in the movies to bring back up i’m building a diy something if i have to because you never know how far down you have to go.
The angle, and where gold goes--is down. Who has leaned up your pan to drain it, and had a nugget go rolling out... BBs roll. And they go down. It makes me think about a scenario where I thrash the top gravels and reserve them in a pile. But make the deeper layer cake . But Primarily looking for the BBs on the bottom of the hole. Add water and pull out with a hand dredge possibly. But spending more time on the bottom. Special tools. Do you ever see and archaeologist work?. Don't go crazy but test the bottom. Let me ask this. Is the top of a bucked of paydirt/ concentrates richer? or is the last half better? What we are looking for is going down. Great point Jess!
Does the inverted layer cake mean that the hole is circular also? Or, can it be a rectangle that looks like opposing stairs doing down into the ground? A circle is a LOT more dirt than opposing stairs in a rectangle!
