Igi122 nah, it’s more like they tried to abandon the combine and bum rush the train Gordon and the citizens are trying to get on to escape the city. They’re still enemies, but now they’re the combine’s enemies too
@@atomicspartan131 That is actually false, because the combine soldiers that show up from the rooftops in Episode 1 actually back up and support the metrocops, so they were still on the Combine's good side.
Two things you missed: The Combine genetically modified the Head crabs and used them for attacking refugees camp, like Ravenholm. CP actually had some humanity in them. The OTA couldn't get out of the planet, as the portals were only 1-way.
Correct, however it is heavily implied he has some sort of connection as Nihilanth floats by using some kind of combine tech, that's what the weird black/dark blue thing is underneath it.
One detail that you missed was the Combine's fondness for headcrab missiles. You talked about the danger posed by headcrabs and some of the weapons the Combine will use to come after you, but you forgot about the fact that if you do find any kind of hideout the Combine are willing to literally launch a missile full of headcrabs, possibly even multiple ones, into wherever you're hiding, releasing a whole bunch of the parasitic aliens into your presumed safe space. Even if you manage to avoid getting infected by the multitude of headcrabs now infesting the area, that just leaves you vulnerable to the Combine forces. I actually had a theory about the suppression field. It's often assumed that the Combine want to drive humanity into extinction, but if the ultimate goal was to wipe them out entirely there are surely simpler and more efficient means the Combine could have used. After all why even allow humanity to surrender if they wanted them gone entirely? It's not like we had any bargaining chip, they could easily have ignored Breen and just kept going until we were destroyed. It suggests they have something to gain from enslaving humanity rather than outright wiping them out. My theory is that their goal isn't necessarily to HALT human reproduction so much as CONTROL it. The suppression therefore field exists as a means of keeping the human population from getting too large, but also as a way of easily re-enabling it as soon as it's necessary for the Combine. In this sense, humans would be treated more like livestock- at specific times the Combine could temporarily disable the field when they need humans to breed (for instance, to exploit as a resource), and then turn it back once they felt their goals had been met. Any time it was to their advantage to disable the field, the Combine could have Breen spin it as humanity proving themselves worthy and then find an excuse to justify re-activating the field afterwards.
Humans do had a bargaining chip. Humans were trying to figure out teleportation. And allready found the border world of Xen. And after humans made some noice on Xen. The combine noticed it and found out and opened a portal to xen and thus found their way to earth. (or maybe the fact that gordon killed Nihilanth (who kept the portal from xen to the combine world closed) made it happend that the combine could visit xen). The combine is interested in any teleportation technology. The combine can create portals into other dimensions and other worlds, but dont have anything like teleportation on those planets or dimensions. So the combine allows a small group of human scientists working on the teleport tech. And human soldiers working for the combine are some cheap infantry who can be used as cannonfodder on other planets. headcrabs and antlions are uncontrollable and stupid. But human (slave) soldiers can follow orders. And the planet earth could be used for breeding grounds for the Advisors and earth has some minerals that can be used for the combine and with human slave workers, they can mine those minerals.
We never see Gordon, or anyone in the entire Half-Life series actually eating besides Otis. Magnusson canonically never ate his casserole due to Gordon exploding it. (No matter your choice, he confirms it happened it happened in Episode 2)
...that's actually a good point, only my man otis ever gets his snack... but we do see vortigaunts cooking at multiple points in half life two and funnily enough bullsquids, vorts and zonbies are seen eating corpses in half life one
Thinking why we never see the characters eat or take a rest, i think those moments are unnessesary to be present in the game. I know it's illogical when every time Gordon reached the resistance base or Black Mesa East, he didn't took a rest or a meal. I think Gordon had a meal or at least drank some water in one of those bases (possibly in Black Mesa East) it's just unnessesary for the Players to see those kinds of opportunity
I am angry half life fan who will correct anything misspoken etc. That appears in this video for the pointless sake of because I can. 1: Although putting the anti-mass spectrometer on 105% was a major reason for everything going kaboomy, the chances of a resonance cascade were made 100% when the G-man supplied the administrator with a pure xen Crystal. 2: Xen is not a planet, it is a “borderworld”. A dimension between ours and another. 3: Don’t worry, you got the pronunciation of the big baby monster correct. 4: The technology used by the overwatch and civil protection is actually quite poor in terms of the combine, this can be assumed as the combine arm their most loyal units with better technology. Conscripts received outdated military equipment even my our standards. Metro cops received all they needed in order to subdue the population, most of their weapons being fairly standard such as SMGs and Pistols. although vehicles employed by them were much more deadly. The real upgrade in tech can be seen with Combine Soldiers who receive advanced technology both as implants and weapons. And the most severe can be seen with the synths and the combine advisors. The synths have access to devastating pulse weapons as well as literal dark energy canons that can level buildings in a second. While advisors have legit super powers. 5: I assume you are confused. Both the vortigaunts and the foetus monster ran from the combine to the borderworld xen. It was then that the feotus monster enslaved the vortigaunts and forced them to construct an army of which it planned to use to escape xen. This plan goes topside at blackmesa when Gordon kills everything to death. 6: The vortigaunts were indeed being forced to attack humans, this can be seen as they are under the control of the alien controllers. 7: But the lambda had unharmed outposts all across the countryside before Gordon arrived? the city openly revolted against the combine and begin to win, pushing all the way to the citadel while Gordon wasn’t even there?
You said “only the gonome has been seen to use it’s chest as a mouth”. That’s not true as In the first game you see many generic zombies consuming dead bodies by using their chests as mouths
@Black Rock Yes, of course they’d be using left over tech. You can see in half life 2 that there is an immobile BTR-like vehicle in the tunnels during the street war levels Just remember though that they arent going to be recieving any new ones, which is crucial to sustaining a fight A tank is of no use if it has no gas An m2 browning is no use without more ammunition to use it
How to survive the Combine Invasion: 1: ABH fast enough to travel back in time 2: Somehow manage to convince Black Mesa to not conduct all the tests with Xen 3: ABH back to the present and boom, no Combine
15:36 those are Race X creatures, they were a military invasion force from another dimension, they wouldn't have come to earth during the Portal Storms. They only intervened during the resonance cascade.
The Combine's method of invasion was teleporting the Citadels to some especific locations and multiple forces would be deployed from there, thus starting the 7 hour war. I believe the cities were already constructed before the invasion to protect the survivors from the other species. EDIT: So the teaser for Half-Life: Alyx released (It's awesome btw) and when i analised,it showed the Combine building the Citadel from scratch, proving that the concept of the citadel teleportation to Earth was changed during Half-Life 2's development because there were no signs that the event happened. But the teaser showed that the Combine's method to invade Earth was teleporting giant flying ships and deploying squads from there,so the concept is almost the same.
@@leonardofigueira4523 That'd be rad to see, imagine the scene, Citadels being dropped through portals and landing on top of million miles of concrete, cinder block and earth, sending debris flying into the air, killing millions, and it chaotically untangles itself and roots into the planet's surface like a plant, drills and digs for resources.
@@blackrockshooter4796 You know, considering Hl1 takes place in 2003, and it's 20 years since the 7 hour war, i suppose HL2 would be taking place in our timeframe, 2020s maybe? kinda funny to think that the Black Mesa Incident would have prevented the development of a lot of products we have today, but hey, they have cool sci fi alien technology, so i guess that made it worth it for Humanity. lol
The moral of the story is - always keep your crowbar closeby. You never know when you'd need to start smashing some crates and space alligators. And about Xen - it's actually a borderworld in another dimension where the Nihilant took all his minions and fled from the combine. It's scattered across few asteroids or micro-planets and it's trippy as hell.
Can't get enough of the Combine. Trivia! - The Citadel is one giant thumper. You can see it at the end of Half-Life 2. This protects City 17 from Antlions.
@Andre Marchand He's talking about like the original species. Think the Tau in the 40k universe. Sure, there are actual Tau at the center of it all, but that's only a portion of all the species in their empire. Although, unlike the Combine, the Tau make up the biggest percent of their Empire, but it still works
Nah bro that vid will never happen because it would turn into a 1000 ways to die in the scp universe, just look at that lizard thing that can't die or shy guy these two would single handedly take out the whole world or even worse look at the scarlet king that thing is literally an evil god
I always thought in the lore the Nihalith and vortiguants were attempting to hide from the Combine in Zen, and the humans kinda just went ahead and messed everything up, and they were just trying to survive.
They were. But the Vortigaunts in HL1 were slaves to the Nihilanth. Once it died, they allied with humanity. Also, G-Man is responsible for the mess up that caused the resonance cascade.
19:45 Technically, if the combine were defeated then the suppression field causing reproduction to be impossible was destroyed, you WOULD be able to reproduce.
Rest in Peace Breen, you made the tough choice of saving humanity, but demonised in the end. Well Gordon, as much as you hated the Combine, you can at talk to Breen in Heaven. Or at least I assume that, we'll never know Half Life 3 is as good a dream as a perfect world.
By the way the Combine aren't galactic. They're interdimensional, that's why the gunships and dropships look like sea creatures from another world; augmented to hell of course.
Well, the majority of the planet's surface is a toxic radioactive wasteland, and then it gets worse from there... Might be more interesting to say ways in which you might be able to survive.
Half-life reminds me a lot of my childhood (8-10) where I would always watch gmod videos, like dasboschit, kitty0706 (god rest his soul), and a lot of sparta kick remixes.
Just thought I’d point this out: Xen isn’t actually a planet. It’s a border world to other planets. Think of it like a subway station to other planets.
I love the background of every level, like for example those refineries in the background by the damm after fighting the Helicopter or what's beyond those mountains and rivers/oceans.
Bruh all you have to do is just be cool enough for gman to wisk you away into stasis, then break out of stasis and then contact some kind of resistance people to get some form of cool armor back and start killing cps
"Why you won't survived the Combine invasion?" But, the universal union also failed to conquer the human as the human is the first EVER inhabitants that ever won over the inter-dimensional empire.
@@wildandan1561 Yeah, however that doesn't the fact that earth is THE only one that stand up against the universal union. funny how everyone keeps talking about Gordon not talking at all while Chell did the same, plus I don't know how I'm gonna feel about it if they got a voice actor and they were just meant to be the player

Edit: just as a correction (sorry Zach) but the CPs actually aren't augmented in anyway they are literally just normal humans, in fact it was a choice to join the ranks under the reward of "better meals"
@Demiclea The only weapons I've known them to use are the stunsticks, pistols and SMGs which seem pretty damn generic gear when it comes to a police force.
@Demiclea well the beta version was totally different I'd say it has a completely different cannon in itself with the air changing factory and those themes
I know us Lamenters are unlucky, but I should be able to survive some untrained normies with USPs and MP7s to trained mostly normies with a gun only twice as powerful as an MP7.
The combine are beyond intelligent, when they took over earth the weren't even trying. That was probably easy for them, they've been pulling their punches. Gordon's actions may have inevitably screwed earth. The possibility of Gordon losing against the combine is more likely then than the ladder. Not all endings are happy.
I'd join civil protection and help the rebels from the inside, not permanently just for a while like 5 years maximum then I'd escape to the countryside with my badass civil protection outfit and my guns.
the Marlatt Then get sniped by a crossbow or electrocuted by a vortigaunt or murdered by hunters for being in an unauthorized zone. Better take off that uniform
Hey i found your channel just last week but you got me definitely hooked. Love your content. You should do one of your “Wouldn’t/Would Survive” episodes on the 7 Days to Die universe. Would love to see your take on one of my favorite zombie games universe.
Yes, brw Love that game! You could survive 7 Days to Die, but first, who's ready for Multivar calculus? That be your only chance to predict what will happen.
There's dialogue in half life 2 like when you die as Gordon that civil protection units are rewarded with sex, I assume with their spouse because there's also dialogue that tells them they are rewarded with their family remaining cohesive. Which on the flip side, if they fail, whether they are killed or just allow rebels to escape; means their family is probably executed.
Why You Wouldn't Survive Half Life's Combine Invasion //// YES I would, I would simply surrender and join their army or something. like the humans that join the civil protection
No movie ever had the balls to show the effects of an actually successful alien invasion and a vision of what the aliens would do with earth and the humans. This is why half life 2s story is so ground braking. I mean, apart from senselessly killing or feeding on us like Independence Day or War of the Worlds (which is a big influence, admittedly). I mean they even made a whole movie by taking only aspects of the story (Oblivion with Tom Cruise) like stealing earths water and using unwitting human collaborators.
You know you're still alive with those things on your head, right? You can also feel your ribcage being open, your arms becoming claws, your flesh falling off and many other painfull things for eternity.

The Metropolice are 'Willing' participants who don't have their minds wiped as seen by the fact that they rebel in Episode 1.
Really?
You mean like theyre just gonna shoot enemies or actually follow freeman?
Igi122 nah, it’s more like they tried to abandon the combine and bum rush the train Gordon and the citizens are trying to get on to escape the city. They’re still enemies, but now they’re the combine’s enemies too

That is actually false, because the combine soldiers that show up from the rooftops in Episode 1 actually back up and support the metrocops, so they were still on the Combine's good side.

"The nihilanths of the *combine empire*"
The Nihilanth is not affiliated with the combine
Correct, however it is heavily implied he has some sort of connection as Nihilanth floats by using some kind of combine tech, that's what the weird black/dark blue thing is underneath it.
@@corey2414 It is possible that this is Nihilanth race technology - stealed and used by Combine.
The combine massacred the nihilanth's race. He is the last of his kind and escape to xen.
HL2 was supposed to be much more cruel compared to the finished product.
We never see Gordon, or anyone in the entire Half-Life series actually eating besides Otis. Magnusson canonically never ate his casserole due to Gordon exploding it. (No matter your choice, he confirms it happened it happened in Episode 2)
...that's actually a good point, only my man otis ever gets his snack...
but we do see vortigaunts cooking at multiple points in half life two
and funnily enough bullsquids, vorts and zonbies are seen eating corpses in half life one
I mean, you can drink the sodas from the vending machines in Black Mesa, but that’s all I could think of.
I was rather disappointed when I played through Episode 2 and Magnusson brought up the casserole, because I knew I could do it, but never did.

The combine now control Earth
9: The gunships/dropships are not piloted by combine, they are another enslaved species that has been heavily modified like the Striders
You said “only the gonome has been seen to use it’s chest as a mouth”. That’s not true as In the first game you see many generic zombies consuming dead bodies by using their chests as mouths
Im with you my dude!
I am also an angry Half Life fan who will correct anything mispoken etc. The foetus monster that you speak of is Nihilanth.
@Black Rock
Yes, of course they’d be using left over tech. You can see in half life 2 that there is an immobile BTR-like vehicle in the tunnels during the street war levels

I like how he uses both half life/half life 2 and black mesa footage

Not even Gordon defeats the combine - sure he might end their occupation of Earth, but in Epistle 3, he "barely makes a dent" in their honeworld
