neil is a absolute legend✔️ plus we’re both lefty’s👏
Dude why are these videos literally amazing. I can literally sit here and watch this stuff all day long. I wait patiently for each and every video, Please never stop.
The melody of the bass line sounds hooligan, in the good sense of the word.
This is the most sparkling explanation that I have heard.
GooD)))))))
I'm glad a kid has found the cool factor in this track. It was my first Beatles album as a kid. The whole pic in the turtle necks into, It Wont Be Long, this one all th way to Not A Second Time, the entire album was (is) dark hair, turtle necks and black leather for me. It is (in my mind) the lads last brush with the savage young Beatles. And Don't Bother Me was as important to that whole image as any thing on the record...including that bass-line bearing gem, All My Loving. Thank you for your respect for that great one. I'd love to hear those individual stems you were referring to.
Love this, Neil, as always. Many thanks. 'Don't Bother Me' is a great song.
'Good Day Sunshine' would be a great one to do, trying to cast an optimistic spirit on these gloomy times (and gloomy weather).
Aside from the Me & My Monkey fireman's bell one, this is my favorite Ably House video to date. You should one like this for every isolation video you've done. And since we're all locked down and going stir crazy, now would be a fabulous time to do it!
I appreciate videos like this, all the subtle little details that legends do are just fascinating! Thank you making this!
"Flashes of things to come" - absolutely - like a wormhole! My mind jumps all the way to I Want You. Also, he's already starting to use the bass part like a conductor's baton/arranging tool/teaching tool. Love it!
I would love know what you did with the mixing on this one. It is just spot on!
Hey Neil, thanks for the video, you are a lot of fun and most of all a great musician, during these times all the stuff you can keep us busy with is well appreciate it, if times and inspiration allows, how about doing a lesson on bass fir coming up and my brave face! Stay safe! U.S.A.!
Hey Neil!! Could you make a video telling us how did you get into The Beatles and playing bass and stuff?? I think that would be pretty interesting!!
Awesome. Great analysis, you nail the feel which is the hardest thing. Cheers
Awesome as always! This particular video has one of the best bass sounds to it. Different mic? Camera? Excellent.
Fantastic job, dissecting this and other songs!
Could you pliss go over all your basses you use? In a video!
"so sorry bout this coronavirus thing..." one second later: "HAHAHA!"
just loved that.
Awesome analysis and explanation. Spot on...will add the cool details you noted. Thank you. Stay safe!
Fantastic, very informative. One of my very favorite songs
If you broke down while my guitar gently weeps and bass specs too, that would be the best thing ever, love what you do!
Super. So much fun :)
very very enjoyable
I need a compilation of clips from this video of every time he does his guitar impression
P.S. Really digging the facial hair

@@ablyhouseIII 💀💀💀 legendary
Who's running this channel?
You kick ass on Beatles songs Neil, love the way you play
HELL YEAH
HELL YEAH
That Epiphone acoustic looks a lot like mine. Made in Japan, 1970s.
Be safe my friend and love your videos.
I love you Neil
Cavern Club bass x Get Back sessions Paul beard
Nice Macca beard
Please could you do a cover of the end by the beatles please it’s my favourite Beatles song
That Ram look 👌
Or the McCartney album-look.
Thanks for that VH1 moment on music history
Great showcase vid as always Neil! Starting to grow a quarantine beard or a Macca beard?
probably both
I’m just seeing what happens! I’ve never been able to not shave because of shows, now that there are none I’m taking advantage!
4:32 not going to lie but when you said it has an arch back, it got me curious, I actually think that cavern bass is actually a Hofner Ignition Cavern Bass but it was heavily modified to look like the Cavern Bass and when it got stolen
stay safe Neil
I totally agree with your comment regarding the percussions. Personally I feel the song would've been fine without them, sure they could've added some but maybe give it a better mix
To support your theory of John on lead, from the photos of this session you can see George strumming near the nut while it appears John is playing higher up
Hey cool video! I have a question. Im a big Paul McCartney fan and I’ve been wondering, where did you get that strap? I don’t know what to search up to find it? Is there a link I can go to buy it? Please let me know, thanks!
Neil, you said that Don't Bother Me was the first time we hear George on an album. However that is not true. The first time we hear George singing lead vocals was Chains and Do You Want to Know a Secret on Please Please Me, which was released on March 22, 1963. This song, Don't Bother Me, was on With the Beatles album, which wasn't released until November 22, 1963. Meet the Beatles wasn't released until January of 1964. So this wasn't the first song that George did the lead vocals on.
Also Roll Over Beethoven was recorded before Don't Bother Me, so this is George 4th lead vocal. What Neil is referring to is George's first original composition to appear on an album. (Secret was written by Lennon)
@@AblyHouse I meant lead vocals, not composition
@@calebduprest6438 When Neil says "George Harrison's first song" he means it's the first song that George wrote, not lead vocals. We should have clarified. Before The Beatles got their recording contract, John, Paul and George had closer to an equal share of lead vocals
Caleb Duprest - yes I meant first original song. Sorry for the confusion
@@AblyHouse Yeah, no disrespect intended. I couldn't tell what he meant. To me it sounded like it was his first song he did vocals on. But your right, it is his first composition. By the way, I live your vidoes, they really capture the energy and the spirit of the original recordings. You guys are the best out there in instrumental tracking. Your band is also really good as well. My subscription to you is well worth the time.
Where did you find the Rickenbackers that you use
Where did you get the cavern bass
Paul was a guitarist first so Its only natural for him to have so much dexterity on a bass.
Do you have any recommendations for which Hofner to buy? As in, is the contemporary worth the price jump from the ignition/is a MiG worth the price jump from the contemporary?
It all depends on what you are looking for. I think my “best” hofner is my contemporary. It just is the most solid and has the most range in tone, and it also looks like a German one. I would say ignitions are more just built to sound like the German ones, but they are flimsy and aren’t convincing looking. German ones are the real deal obviously, so it’s up to you if it’s worth it. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a contemporary
@@neilcandeloramusic Thanks so much for the advice!
Hi Neil! Might I ask, how does it feel to play a Hofner violin bass? It's part of my dream guitars and I'd like to know how it plays😁!
It's really light, want to play melodic lines, and jump around on the line a lot.
Are you kidding, this is Georges best song and one of the beatles best!
Tapewounds on that rick in the background?
Do some abbey road stuff
What kind of knobs are on your cavern bass?
What's that name the bass 🤔
Did you ever met john or george or ringo or Paul ?
Neil-Where are you playing lately?
Did Dennis take your duster?
Are you naturally left handed ? Regardless you’re a killer bassist
NowhereMan930 yes for beatlerama
I am not left handed - but I can only play guitar left handed. Thanks : )
Excellent video. You're referring to the extra percussion being LATE. I don't know that it's just slop; I think it being late might have been what was desired. I think it deserved to stay. Especially at :37 (and I'm sure other places but it's getting late here, lol) at :37 you can see how much it adds to the song in my opinion.
For a REAL Sixties vibe you need molded coil cords!
At :42 Three Cool Cats Demo Sounds like Don’t Bother Me Verse ruclips.net/video/2nOrAJTu3R4/видео.html Nice MacCartney Sound you got there!
Definetly not a 64 though. They have the White binding and a brighten sunburst.
The bass has been completely redone, and the top repainted. I should have showed a close up, but it looks like there is white binding peaking out from underneath the neck. It could just be something weird from when it was redone, it’s most like a 63 - but it was definitely not a cavern original.
@@neilcandeloramusic I mean, it should be re-painted if it's supposed to ressemble Pauls original 61 since he got it redone in a tri-color sunburst, not far away from the same as Fender Stratocasters.
@@neilcandeloramusic How would they have moved the pickups? Just fill in the small hole of the original placent of the treble pick up?.
Paul Have so me bass
MCBEARDY
You missed talking in scouse accent 😎
The percussion may have been performed by Mal or Neil Aspinall. They would occasionally lend a hand on odd parts here and there.
snippletrap - Search Dont Bother Me Session Photos. You’ll see the exact arrangement of the four of them doing the overdub together. There are two photos, one with george at the vocal and John, Paul and Ringo in the background and the other photo is a close up of the three of them and george in the background
Both Lennon and McCartney spoke dismissively about this song. Any chance they were sabotaging Harrison? Lots of royalties at stake here. I love this song. Dark and moody. It stood out for me.
No, there were not lots of royalties at stake at the time, they weren’t even big in America and they didn’t have a great deal either. And regardless they agreed to split record sales equally all 4 ways. I’d say they were just dismissive of the time it took, George said by let it be he felt like John and Paul would let him work on his once they had worked on 10 of theirs. I feel like this is no different here “okay you’ve got you’re little hour and a half”
@@neilcandeloramusic I hope that is the case. Thanks for answering, Neil. I'm a Beatles obsessive and I love your channel. I'll be back on You Can't Do That as soon as I get home from work.
I LOVE and always did, Don't Bother Me. Hated it when Geo would always dog the song. It fits into the songs I think of as The Savage Young Beatles = no suits, only turtle necks, blacxk tees and/or leather...Don't Bother Me, 17, Can't Do That, It Won't be Long and a few more...
Alpha male chad
Your cavern bass probably started life as a cavern contemporary bass
It’s not a contemporary, it’s German made, and has every feature of a 63 before it was repainted and the pickup Mount was installed
Do you have any recommendations for a second bass for me to buy? I currently have a Höfner and would like to purchase a second bass.
@@neilcandeloramusic that pick up spacing is not a feature of the 63.
Great videos, but can you stop moving like PM? It’s annoying!!
That’s part of the sound! Got get his energy 👍
J B Are you on your period?
Stretch your fingers laterally.
Ok dude, too much useless talking more playing pls.
