    This is a wonderful, value-filled video yet again, Sir. Thank you, Tim! 🖥As a self-taught IT guy, who has worked all through the ranks with no degree, this shows exactly what I would have to do to truly highlight how I could be of service to an employer and get in the door. 💻Great stuff for people like me! 😁

    Thanks for the video! Your points are very true!
    Most applicants in my job do not take into account the specific Job Description. They post a generic CV regardless of the position.

      Yep. It takes more time but it increases your chances of being noticed.

    28:53 this is why whenever I follow tutorials, I make sure to _only_ follow it until I'm at a point where I feel like I could get somewhere on my own, then I make a comment in the code of what I used to get started.
    It's undoubtedly going to be worse, but the only red flags someone would get from it is the spaghetti code. So at least they know for sure that I made it and didn't just copy/paste code.

    Man I missed the notification for resume review. I would have sent mine in. I've been a dev since 2005 but had 2 dev jobs. I would like to move on but my references are old. Been at my current job for 10 years.

      Constant employment isn't a bad thing (or it doesn't have to be). Send your resume in if you want to be evaluated for the next video.

    Thanks for this helpful video Tim! I noticed you didn't mention something about courses so I wanted to ask. Do you think it is worth linking certificates from courses one has watched, especially if they don't have work experience, but have some projects that use technologies from these courses?

    • @IAmTimCorey
      @IAmTimCorey  Год назад

      Not in your resume. Not unless it is a significant certification (not just a certificate of completion). Cheap certifications are also not worth it. Sometimes that can be useful in the "what I'm learning" section of a portfolio, though.

    Question for Tim or anyone else who has any insight: As a self taught developer with no professional experience, what are some good resume practices?
    Thanks!

    Tim, with the second resume, what do feel about the candidate including their age? That seems like it might be an issue, especially in the US. Or maybe not, it’s just not something I’d do.

    • @IAmTimCorey
      @IAmTimCorey  Год назад +1

      It’s not something I would recommend. Employers cannot ask in the US and cannot discriminate based upon age, but if they are concerned about your age, they can find other ways to eliminate you.

    I have a question that has nothing to do with this video.
    I have a NUC and I want it to switch on it's WiFi hub function at start-up. I was thinking I could make an app that to handle this... but I have never made a Windows app.
    I need it to work hands-off, guaranteed, every time, without Windows having a fit about admin permissions and stuff like that.
    Is this something that can be done?

    • @guigs4467
      @guigs4467 Год назад

      Not only it should be easily doable, it can be done without any coding

    Highlight as in actually highlight the word/skill with a color such as Yellow?

    • @IAmTimCorey
      @IAmTimCorey  Год назад +2

      I wouldn’t use a color. Just bold them. You don’t want to distract or look bad.

    Anyone can follow a youtube tutorial and replace the text with personalized info, clearly some of these pretenders did.

    • @IAmTimCorey
      @IAmTimCorey  Год назад

      That's not really the move of a pretender, just something an inexperienced person does to show what they have done.
