I went through NACCS in summer of 1990. Then went on to AO "A" school in Millington, TN. Then from there went to VP-30 in Jax. Then after being class honorman I got first pick and chose Brunswick, ME where I flew as an Inflight Ordnanceman on the P-3C Orion. Served from 1990-1995. Great job for those interested in flying 👍
@@bradleycutter8293 getting the contract wasn’t hard, just availability and do good on your asvab. Dry rates are AWO/V/F and EWO. Wet rates or rescue swimmers are AWR/S. If your dry you’ll be on fixed wings unless you get lucky and you get offered a dry AWS rate where you’ll be in helos with the rescue swimmers. My class got a couple offered but I didn’t want them.

I went through AW "A" school in Millington, TN from Dec 1972 through April 1973. Cold as hell there in the winter... There was no formal Aircrew school at the time. Water survival was part of "A" school. AW was the only rating guaranteed to fly after "A" school. Anyone wanting to become a flight engineer, Inflight tech or ordnanceman had to be an E-5 to apply to become an airewman. I didn't learn what platform I was going to fly in until I graduated from "A" school. I received orders to FASO / VP-30 in Patuxent River, MD and reported in early May 1973. I was assigned to the acoustic operator side on starting FASO. I then trained on the P-3C with VP-30 at Pax River until August 1973 when I reported to VP-5 in Jacksonville, FL. They were flying the P-3A when I first arrived but transitioned to the P-3C about 3 months afterwards. I didn't go through SERE school or ride the helo dunker until I transferred as an AW1 to the west coast in 1981. I retired as an AWCS in 1998 from VP-46 at Whidbey Island. I was a VP acoustic operator my entire career.
I was a dry crewman, I received my Tom Cruise starter kit on completion of aircrew school and a c-130t loaaster. I served 9/6/2002 to 8/31/2006 before I was medically discharged from a tbi. I got a $6,000 bonus and after taxes I got $4,500 and I didn't get it until I completed all of my schools.and I was at my squadron VR-54.
Before you start NACCS your gonna be in backlog doing cleaning bills for about 2-4 months depending on if your wet or dry, dry guys tend to class up faster. I’m in aircrew school right now it’s not to bad
@@christianmichaels6834 nah you can, you have to pass a PST and get to a rescue swimmer contract, which anybody can do as long as you bring it up with your recruiter, the only way you can get a dry contract is if it’s available, either way any rate in aircrew is pretty solid

I’m 35yr my recruiter said that I’m too old to become a Rescue Swimmer, but I’m in TIP TOP SHAPE! I looked up all the requirements I need to become a rescue swimmer then I cranked up my workouts to cater those requirements. I even took a 8 weeks course from a Rescue Swimmer to build up specific muscles to qualify. With that being said, my recruiter STILL said I’m too old. I refuse to accept that, can you please guide me and tell me what do I HAVE to do to become a Rescue Swimmer?
I'm omw to boot for AW. It says in the folder they gave me that aircrew personnel are high risk of capture, so most likely yes. SERE school is required
I’m trying my ass off to get this rate at MEPS. Does anyone know how rare it is if it’s even rare at that? I’m willing to play the waiting game. My ASVAB is 89 and I can already get good PT scores. Any advice helps.
It depends on weather the billets for Aircrew are available. If Aircrew is what you want then you stick with that. Also remember there is selective reserve and FTS (full time support.) You will not be a Rescue swimmer if you select to contract as those but you can still go Aircrew. You will be an AWF assigned to either C-40A or C-130H. Make sure your recruiter is explaining those to you and you know your options! If you need any help or have any questions you can def hit me up!
I signed for AIRC-ATF. I was looking at it the night before, the Chief I spoke to told me "Good luck, cuz I can already tell you that ain't happening". So judging from his response, I'm guessing it's not a common job. Another dude I went to Meps with signed as a rescue swimmer. It's hit or miss.
Be able to get at least 60-70 push-ups, max out your plank, and a 10 minute mile and a half at least. At naccs you’ll do sit-ups in lie of planks so be able to get like 60

Being at NACCS is awesome. It's stressful but absolutely the most elite school on the base and you're treated a lot different from the others.
Why, my son is in training now? Why they treat you different?
I’m at Aircrew school rn. Would love a video on SERE... at least what can be discussed. That’s my next phase. Also I’m a dry candidate
