Really interesting to see how this mostly free to play and microtransaction way of doing tbings pans out with Rensport.
Deviding players up is a big issue in sims , i also think selling liveries or specifc cars with tracked history and other "gimmicks" can be quite fun and unobtrusive way to monitise a title , if done well.
My bud and I were just discussing this!
RRE tried it. It didn't work well I think. I for one don't like the iRacing/RRE model of paying separately for every piece of content. I much prefer paying for the core game and then DLC packs as long as they make sense and you're not force to buy just to compete against DLC cars in online. I think DLC's should ideally be themed (ie. Group C DLC, American tracks DLC etc.) and not just random collections of arbitrary content.
The unique livery/car might be fun. I don't care particularly but I can see the appeal and the business case.
Looking forward to a GamerMuscle Yorkshire Tea inspired livery.
More of a reason to just wait for AC Evo
with AC also moving away from the troublesome unreal engine just leaves more questions about the future quality of rennsport
Same here. There will be more variety in more tracks and cars, I hope, when EVO comes out. Plus EVO will have AI offline racing capabilities which RennSport does not have. RennSport is another Niche limited racing game like LMU. I do have ACC which I enjoy and like the way the cars handle.
not sure be any better mate cuz it heading down the forza and turismo road and EVO will be more arcade than sim. Even rumours it going have a story mode. no thanks just want proper sim
@@shanerobinswpr7027 a 'proper' sim with just online races via 3rd parties u mean? nothing wrong with a sim having a solo mode.. can be better practice than an empty track while players learn the game.. i dont get your point
eVINs - will track unique mileage, race results etc. specific to that vehicle. That is an NFT, even if they don't want to use that term. Also, they already have split the user base by putting the Nordschleife only in a paid-for founder's pack.
Every dime you spend on Rennsport goes straight to Porsche Shareholders.
Track & Vehicle selection is heavily insired by 1999 s Sports Car GT, but it looked even better and was better to use back then. Really sad moneygrab.
From their site: "So, statistics like “Races won”, “Transaction History” (For example “Previous owners” and “Date of sale/purchase”), etc. can all clearly be recorded via this eVIN." Does this mean it will be possible to resell the car you bought and no longer drive as much??
Its not an nft since it isn't on the Blockchain however it is a similar idea

LOL! I just left a comment about this on your other video . . . but I'll comment here for the algorithm. I feel $70 USD for an unfinished, still WIP sim is pretty silly. That said, I understand I'm not the target demographic. That seems to be more for the people who care about that kinda stuff, I just wanna go fast.
@@DaveAdams222 It’s a buggy mess, Alpha in quality. They are trying to fool everyone with the pretty visuals of UE5 and fancy graphic design to produce a low budget high return product. It’s essentially a scam.

I think animated liveries is over the line for me with the immersion in mind... Iracing trading paints is the way to do things imo.
I agree with what you're saying that a 'everything is free, and you can buy cosmetics' business model would be very good in terms of helping event and series participation. They just need to do it in a way that isn't stupid or undermining it being a simulator, which I personally feel that magical liveries are. Ymmv etc.
I was kind of looking forward to this, now I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
I am one of the idiots that will instantly be put off by animated liveries. A great idea for an arcade game, but in my narrow way of thinking, this would just kill the simulation feel for me. Then again, it's just me. The world won't change because of what I think. Also, it would not surprise me to see this happening in the real world in the very near future. We have already seen it with animated number plates.
I'm in the same boat, I don't mind custom liveries i.e. in IRacing, even the silly ones. But having an animated livery just brakes the immersion (which is one of the things I look for in sims) for me. On one hand I'm thinking about tyre temps, cambers, pressures, fuel load..etc.. On the other hand there is a freaking racing animated billboard in my face. What's the next step? Custom tyre smoke, or exhaust flames? Just doesn't fit the setting.
They show the Dynamic Liveries in their announcement video. Rennsport looks like it's targeted at 12 year olds, think Rennsport x Fortnite.

That Porsche GT3 R Rennsport isn’t really a race car that races in a series like WEC or IMSA. So although it’s a real car it’s not a competitive “racer”
Anything I drive becomes a non competitive race car 🙃

Nice, NFT finally making an appearance. I hope we as simracers, who are typically older, will reject this shite. It's "very nice," if you're a parent, and you have to buy new skins for your kid if you don't want him of being mocked (and/or bullied) for not having the latest skins/characters in "free to play" game. Happening in your kid's school near you right now. Sad state of affairs.
Great parents that raise their kids right can just explain why it is not important at all and that the other kids have a problem. But that is the hard way ofc so why would you they?
@@Bambeakz it's gone way beyond that these days. You don't understand how insidious this is now. No matter how great a parent you are, you have no control over your child in school, their interactions with their peer groups and so on. If your 8 or 9 year old child is ostracised from their peer group because they are the only one without X skin or Y DLC for their mobile, switch, or xbox game then you can't help that without allowing them some means to integrate themselves.
I agree with you in principle, but the reality is far more complex and difficult to address.
I hope they'll have the option to turn off the movement on dynamic liveries for those who don't want the extra distraction.
I'm really looking forward to barrelling at 180mph down the foxhole at Nords only to be put off by someones animated waifu livery

I totally love the animated liveries. As a big fan of cs2 and skins in any games and a lover of sim racing im totally here for it.
I don't mind these DLC packs...but im not buying anything if the game is struggling to find an online player base. Even if the free content has active players I would bet good money the dlc will be empty

Thought about it, then I saw it's Epic Games Store exclusive, now I resume waiting for AC EVO
My take on it is:
If you want pure simulation, there are already plenty of sims out there, if everyone develops the same thing, it gets saturated, so them setting themselves apart with different ideas TO ME is great. I support the animated liveries, or literally any sort of unique customization. My question is gonna be, a big part of other sims is making your own livery, so I wonder how they'd deal with it, because, its all cool having these pre-made liveries, but they are gonna look pretty empty without the sponsors and stuff that people like to have to fill out space. And ofc, the animated liveries cant be too distracting, i wouldnt want a car literally flashing in my field of view when i should be looking at where I'm going. It's gonna be an interesting balance they need to find.
Imagine if you could have animated liveries in real life racing. It would be banned instantly because it could easily be used to annoy other drivers. If they only allow buyable animated liveries in the game it could probably be controlled, but still... The livery of other cars is part of your reference points when racing others, and if that's not static it's more difficult to use it as such.
Really enjoyed this open-minded look at the a-typical monetization strategies this game implements so far. After all, how is the genre supposed to evolve if none of the sims try any different approaches? Division of the userbase surely does hold back player numbers in the other sim’s online ranking systems.
Although, the founders packs in Rennsport do appear to be content DLC essentially, plus a few visual and digital ownership tokens. Perhaps they’re undermining their business model more by focusing the packs around cars and a track rather than solely offering some innovative optional extras. That’s an interesting question discussed in this video.
Difficult to see, at this stage, how this studio has the clarity of vision to steer the community into new directions when it comes to payments. However, it’ll be interesting to see how monetization techniques from other video game genres (or can’t) translate into sim racing with this game and subsequent titles.
A genuinely ‘free to play’ sim could move the genre forward, but it’s hard to imagine Rennsport being the title to move the needle that way. It seems like they haven’t nailed down who the target demographic is, from top-level esports at one end through animated liveries at the other. Confusion!
Maybe they’d have a better chance if they were promoting this as a multi-platform simcade rival to Forza and GT7, rather than getting bogged down in the ultra-demanding, but tiny, ‘serious’ simulation market.
Yeah this is gonna backfire harder than a bad carburetor. I mean yeah they need to make money somehow but this isn't it. I mean 60 bucks for a track, a car, some meaningless medals and your name on a track/billboard is just a simple cash grab in my eyes.
Its been in development for quite a while with no huge steps forward, they use a the ol' ISI physics engine and please the eyes with UE5.
You know what I'm just gonna say it: Even motorsport games wouldn't even do this.
Do they mean dynamic as in it changes per event or track rather than it’s animated? Like a 24hr race would be subtly different to a sprint for example
Doesn't work for me, if I launch it from Moza Pithouse (no matter which path I choose) it says the game failed to initialize the required data, if I launch it from Epic then it works but then I can't setup my wheel. Wth is this....
This monetisation strategy is just super gross to me... Not going to touch this now.
They're literally holding the Nordschleife track as a "hostage" to force people to buy the founders packs. It's the most popular race track in the world, and they know that most people want it in any racing game. I don't like the taste of that, it's scummy. In a vacuum, sure, it's an offering and I don't have to like it. But I can drive really great Nordschleife laser scanned tracks in a lot of other games and sims. Sorry, but I'll instantly pass.

Imagine a racing game where you can't even upload your own livery. But can buy one for a lot of money. Or don't. Since nobody cares about Rennsport 🙂
It is not free2play if you need to buy the content to use it. Typically free2play games give access to almost all content for free. It is just the progression to open all said content that is really slow compared to paying which can give instant access. And being able to drive alone in raceroom does not make it free2play either.

Raceroom has recently run a time attack championship at Pau where the winner’s name was put as a graffiti on the track.
Once it doesn't give those who purchase these types of things an "advantage" in the game itself, by all means.
It may sound like a small issue but if there are animated liveries i won't give the sim a second thought.

@@cdeppracing216 NFT is not a good or bad thing , you could describe steam workshop as NFT way before people labeled NFTs NFTs , it's just a technology that can be used in a good or bad way.
Though obviously the word NFT is now associated with a specific example of NFT use case.

For the time being I don't like it, if you want to play you have to have an epic account and a racing account. I don't feel like playing everything via Steam, it drives me a bit crazy with all those accounts.
I dont care about cosmetics but it could be really distracting to have a car with flashing graphics either in front or behind you. Could be used as a defensive or offensive advantage
If it is animated liveries then I predict they wont work! Or be very rude. Seems more for the console market, perhaps. The pricing structure seems weird and suggests individual/track purchases are going to be £10-20. I can't help but think this is doing to be out of date by the time is actually gets a full release . Definitely trying the free stuff. Always look forward to a full release, as well.

cant see past the garbage with the game tbh.. achievments in game always mean more than any purchase imo, weve seen many changes over the years with what used to be in game content now being sold at ridiculous prices, far too much for most players to even bother looking at twice. It becomes a lazy circus of reskins that some people seem to keep paying for ?? Sims are a bit different than mmo's but £70 for a single track??? really? the rest is all cosmetic junk, including the 2 cars if they are the same models but 'special skins'... and evin ? a decorated reg plate, is it needed ? Hope they fail miserably in trying to rip people off. Animated liveries will prob deter most sim racers anyway.. not sure what crowd they are expecting to find. Maybe they better off making mario joins whacky races ??

I never cared less for a new sim to hit the market. It is a game build to make money instead of a game made out of passion that makes money just because the fans love it.
This kind of stuff should stay at F2P shooters. No clue why they did not make an arcade racing game with this F2P model because that could work 🤷♂️

been playing the game today. FFB is terrible lol. not sure i trust you anymore when it comes to FFB. even ACC has better feedback. kinda felt like p-cars 1 to me ... dead inside.
RennSport game is just another Online only GT racing game which I haven't the time or no interest in since I quit doing allot of online league racing several years ago and was fun at the time.
Don't we have enough GT racing games already with ACC, LMU, RaceRoom and AMS 2 to name a few??? I think now with all these GT racing games, I think they are spreading out the amount of online racing drivers too thin, but I really could care less. Plus there is no AI offline racing in this game which I only have time for.
This game is like LMU, with only a hand full of tracks and GT cars which are the same thing as the other GT racing games. Isn't this getting boring. How many different Nord tracks do people really need???? And probably they will nickel dime you to death with every new DLC content they provide in the future.
Every new game now seems to be getting this way. Early release price and then pay 10-15 dollars more for every DLC track/car content. Ridiculous.
So this is another game they can keep whatever it provides.

It's the worst sim to release, at least if you play with controller. I'll just say cars don't drive like cars if you use controller. Can't speak about wheel users.

@@DavelSaverage I have driven thousands of cars in other sims and that is what I compare this with. Plus I drive IRL and know how a fucking car should feel. This isn't it. Been playing with controller since around 1991 or so.

as i said before i hate games with subscription model, and in case like this i am totaly against custom liverys, it will destroy the simulation feel, i dont care how much money are some noob spend on his dragon ball/helo kitty/marihuana/thunderstrike skin, and am forced to watch that horror during race....IF this could be a rocket league, NFS, track mania,GTA, fine no problem, but here huge NO NO NO
