Hello Gail, I was wondering if you could show us how to sew a chain stitch on jeans hems please. I tried with the Compensating foot but it stalls when going over the seams. Thank you from Pauline.
Hi Pauline, Because a jeans hem is so thick, you really need a jeans needle which is too large for sergers. I would suggest using your sewing machine to hem jeans. The biggest needle size suitable for sergers is a 90/14. A bigger needle doesn't allow proper clearance for the loopers. Hope that helps and thanks!
Very nice lacy edge! tweezers, clips, cs tool, chalk, nice thread to try, brush for lint, seam ripper, tip book..your favs, By the way, what do you think of L890 QE Bernina Machine new Serger? Your fan from Hoovers Bernina, miss you.
Hi Esperansa, Thank you for the suggestions. I'm putting everything viewers sent in for suggestions in a document to review. The L890QE is wonderful! It has the exact same functionality as the original L890 but comes with a bundle of Gifts with purchase. The outer machine casing is all white so it distinguishes it from the original, but you can do all of the same stitches on it. I miss you too, but Hoover's is a great dealer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I'll get back to you as fast as possible. xo, Gail
Hi, Set the cutting width dial to "9" and the mtc dial to +2. (The mtc dial moves the stitch finger slightly further right for a wider stitch.) If you skim off the whiskers on the fabric edge, you'll get a perfect 3/8" seam allowance. Let me know if you have questions and thanks!
Great Q&A, Gail! You always deliver so much wisdom. Thank you!
Thanks for tuning in Andy!

hI. i ENJOY your vids. I have an L890. How do I make a 3/8" seam in 4 thread overlock? Most of my knit patterns want 3/8.

Hi Gayle. How do you get a 1/4 inch seam on the BERNINA 890
Hi Roni,
In overlock mode, turn the cutting width dial to “6” with a 4 thread overlock stitch. Thanks!
