One of mine and my late Fathers favorite pieces for music. I grew up listening to this, and at the age of 5 used to sing this on the way to school. Ive heard this piece so many times by different artists. Karl Richter's interpretation is by far the best, he doesn't just play the notes, he makes the organ sing.

Yes, his singing 'legato' on the organ is fabulous, every pipe of the instrument sing together!

One of the greatest performances of this work by G.F.Handel by the incredible German zeitgeist organist Karl Richter (1926-1981).

    3:21 Andante
This movement has a strong resemblance to Canon in D by Pachelbel. It uses a chord progression from the original song.
There’s even a major reference to the song at 4:06. Where the violins plays 32nd chords.
And another reference to the opening part at 4:42.
This second movement sounds very similar to Vitamin C’s “Graduation” although it’s based off Canon in D too.

I knew Richter was organist AND conductor, but I never dreamed he did BOTH at the same time!!! Thanks for uploading this mind-blowing video!

One can clearly see that Richter was right handed. His left hand has a very unnatural posture when he's playing fast passages.

The composition that starts at 3:21 sounds exactly like "Air" by Bach. How comes? Or is it just coincidence?

More like Pachelbel - Canon in D

Also, the beginning of the music sounds like Devills Trill by Tartini.

Handel does not know Bach so, just coincidence.

    • @Timrath
      @Timrath 6 лет назад +5

Händel didn't steal from Bach, and Bach didn't steal from Händel. But neither is it a coincidence. Both composers used this bass line because it was popular during their time. All composers used it. It was so common that it has its own name (like all things in music do when they become widely used). This particular bass line is known as "Ground" in English terminology. It can also be heard in Bach's Goldberg Variations and Händel's Passacaglia in G Major, as well as in a lot of other composer's works.

That's the harpsichordist playing basso continuo, not a continuity error of the recording, hun.

Wow, the Andante larghetto is soooo sloppy, sacrificing accuracy over speed. On top of that, it sounds absolutely lifeless, like a robot just rushing through the notes.

Actually the finest recording, with one of the best organists of all times, Karl Richter, who could imitate Haendel's ability of improvisation with stunning embellishments "ad libitum". Your opinion is ridiculous.
