Hey Matt are there any studies that compare same doses oral vs topical. So like taking .25mg oral and .25mg in spray and which reduces dht the most and which lowers the serum less but at same mg doses

62 still have most of my hair, 3 months ago noticed slight thinning mid scalp.. jumped all over it
month 1- 7mg a week--- way too much - manboobs,no libido, lethargic, foggy headed, bloated gut
month 2- 3 mg a week--- less side effects, feel way better.. no change in hair loss, all good
month 3- 1 mg a week-- feel human again, no hair loss.. I think I found the sweet spot--- for me[ everyone's different]
also using minoxidil daily liquid to keep what I have and precipitate growth--- gameplay works good so far
I am taking 0.125mg a day and i think evem that dose gives me little bit of insomnia.The good thing is my body goes back to normal fast with that dose.I think finasteride is very powerfull drug and 1mg is way too much.I will keep using 0.125mg to see if i can manage to handle it.If not everyday i will use it at least 3 times a week or every other day until it doesnt give me any side effects. After all even 1 dose a week should give you some benefits...

On the 1 mg a week - do you take the 1 mg pill on just one day or do you divide the dose up & take it on more than one day a week? I'm kind of in the same boat: 62 with still most of my hair & just light thinning on the front & vertex area. I stated at 1 mg 3x week (MWF) but had sides (brain fog, tendon tightness, low ejaculatory fluid 😬). Now at .5 mg 3x week & most of those sides have gone away. Hair is stable but no signs of re-growth (it's been 4 months now). You have to be careful with this medication - it's really powerful. That must be why Japan has a *.2 mg* tablet for their patients.
If you only experience thinning at 62 I am nto surprised 1 mg a week works for you. You are lucky
@@nomad6086 As per the two Australian doctors on RUclips --for me in my particular case,I take their advice and take 1 mg a week now, to mop up those enzymes that are left over. You’re always producing. as you age your hair is going to change no matter what you try -you will get receding in certain areas depending on your genetics. Finasteride basically slows the process down. I’ve been on it for a year and a half now and it’s doing his job, although I’m not sure how long for ! Cost me about 50 bucks a month Canadian
I'm glad you explored upregulation/downregulation of AR since your last video as this is (I believe) exactly what happened, not necessarily evidence of sides from fin after stopping it.
That being said, I'd never dare trying such experiments with Fin. In my case, If i stop, I could go very easily to NW6. And it's likely after restarting fin, it might be too late. Hope you'll be doing well.
Yeah, was likely as a result of the upregulation man. After some time, things got back to the default level of sex drive and libido. Good luck with your journey as well.

@@genshingt7792i started only after hair transplant. I couldn't continue it.took some break due to busy schedule after moth or so. did not see any noticeable difference with my original hair. no sides either. but I think personally for me hair growth is slow process.
I have been taking fin 1mg daily 6 days a week for just over 2 years now.
No change in the mood that I can feel.
Sexual side - it is true that you don’t wake up with the hard banana as often BUT when you actually get into sexual activity you don’t any difference, it’s like before fin (at least for me).
What I have noticed recently though since starting gym, my hair feel bit flat like less of life(maybe psychological), no increase in hair shed though. But it get me worried in case they are miniaturising.
I am thinking of adding .5mg dutastride once a week along with fin 5 days. Read that it works wonders, so will see.
I have tried RU before, it gave me increased heart rate but that went away after few days of continued use. But not using RU anymore.

The channel TheHairLossShow has a video about this very topic. That channel is two Australian doctors specializing in hair loss. They say you can reduce it from 1mg/day safely and it'll still be effective.

I think that all depend how aggressive you alopecia and your age.
1 mg per days for same people it's ok. For another people it's a lot.

Please keep us posted, Matt. After 6-7 months of taking Finasteride, I started really noticing the anxious/depressive sides people mentioned having, severely. Currently taking a two week break from this stuff, and planning on microdosing to .5 or .25.
I tried Dutasteride, but I got catastrophic sides after only a week using that.
Exact same for me, I've been off 7 weeks and still am not back to normal, mostly the sleep problems are the worst

I know a guy from my neighborhood that did an HT in Turkey about 6 years ago, went very very successful since he was Norwood 8 or worse, because he was bald as hell. First op was 5500 grafts and the 2nd was was around 2000 grafts. He's been on medication ever since and not a single follicle dropped off. He's 43 now, looking literally 15 years younger. Tho I might say that he does PRP to his hair every once in a while. I think every 2 months or something. Now there is one scientifically based review here in Belgrade, Serbia that the hair from the donor area is 75% less susceptible to DHT, and if treated right it could to an extent of 90% push back Androgenetic Alopecia.
Now that means, that with the right hair treatment after the HT, theres 90% chance that your hair will never fall off again but it depends solely on your genetics, so it varies from person to person. As I said, my neighbor who is 43 years old is rocking incredible. The guy looks completely transformed after 2 HT's but most importantly he said that he even has a better hair now than when he was a teenager and yes its true. And it doesn't even look unnatural in an inch of his scalp or whatever.
I'm Norwood 6 and I always tell him, if I get like 60-70% of results he has, i'd be running naked all over...the globe xD

I had side effects on finasteride at the 1 mg per day dose. I am taking 0.25 mg 3x week with no side effects so far, under my doctor's direction.

I took 1.25 mg fini and got bad sides after one dose, now I reduced my dose to 0.25 mg I feel fine but I will keep you guys updated. Its safe to start low guys always remember patients is key when taking anything that can cause side affects.

This doesn't make sense to me...even at 0.05 mg per day it caused a 50% decrease in serum DHT in the study (which I imagine causes side effects). I don't see how 0.5mg every other day isn't going to cause side effects. If instead you look at the graph of serum dht levels over the course of a week, it takes about a week for it to recover. Something like 0.5mg once a week makes more sense to me and even still, this would probably cause some kind of side effect

The only difference I have noticed since being on finesteride is that I have less aggression in the gym (I'm natural). When I hit the weights I used to feel heat in my chest and muscles. Almost how you feel when you get extremely pissed off. Literally the eye of the tiger. I feel more cool calm and relaxed now which sorta sucks for the gym. Maybe it's because DHT is five times more potent (so I've read) that regular testosterone and it's being decreased by the finesteride..

Been taking 1mg daily for 4-5 months along with oral minoxidil and doing other stuff. I’ve seen some improvement, but think I’m developing sexual side affects, loss of libido, maybe moobs. Though not terrible, I’m concerned messing with my hormones too much. I’m taking two weeks off now, and then am going to try taking 1mg every other day. From here I’ll probably go another few months on, then take a couple weeks off, and at that point maybe try .5 every other day. We’ll see where that leaves me.

Exactly...that Drake study has to wrong.
There may be some error but what's worth noticing is that finasteride is hella potent and it can reach it's desired effect even with much lower doses. So probably 1mg x day or 0.1% topical x day is overkill. You can achieve the same result by taking less

Not sure but interestingly they observed something similar in Caserini's study on topical Fin. 0.025% had better DHT scalp suppression than 0.05% and 0.075%. They found 0.025% to have very similar DHT suppression as 0.1%.

I had to stop taking finasteride which I had been taking for 20 years, my doctor refuses to give me a prescription insisting on the harmful side effects for my health, I am French, I have not taken it for 4 days and I know ps but i feel more upbeat, fit, and less libido issues, to follow in three months and i'm not even sure i had hair loss issues 20 yrs ago i was doing this for prevention

@@mil6308 I had stopped to take it but I was loosing a little bit in on one side few hair , it seems for me, but after one month I had bought finasteride and I still take it now so it was a brief moment to stop it, but I am surprised, I have now no problems of libido!

The side effects are highly overblown. Sensationalism gets clicks. Millions of people have been taking it for 20+ years. It would be very obvious if a large percentage of people were getting serious side effects from it.

Great video as always Matt! Question unrelated to this video: had my second transplant just last week. How do I know if hair that is falling out after one week is either shedding with dead skin or graft loss?
Graft loss with the bulb is pretty impossible, BUT if it occurs, it is normally accompanied by bleeding on the area where graft was placed.

Hey Matt! You had various hair transplant, wich means that a lot of hair present on the top of ur scalp are not sensible to DHT. I think we can expect more gains for a person that have many minaturised hair with DHT blocking drugs. Do you share the same analysis ?

I have one question: what causes sides effects aint Finasteride but DHT suppression. So if U move from a 70% DHT suppression to 60% but taking 1/10 of finasteride shouldn’t your side effects be similar since DHT suppression is similar?
My point is that the important thing aint the medical dose but the DHT suppression.
That's a good point. That might explain why some guys say they can't tolerate 0.2mg
You’re assuming that Finasteride causes side effects through DHT suppression and not some other means (like reduced neurosteroids) which may affect dopamine-serotonin-gaba balance. A lower dose could reduce this even if it still inhibits DHT

Taking 1mg a day caused me to have negative sideeffects, therefore I'm currently taking 0.05mg. So yet, there have been no sides; let's see how things develop. I'll update everyone.

Hey Matt, if one believes that they have androgenetic alopecia, should they be washing their scalp everyday? Cause from what I've read, dht is present in the sebum our scalps produce so you don't want it to be sitting there for long. But also, I find that balding men have very brittle and dry hair, completely devoid of any moisture so shouldn't washing your hair everyday further dry out your scalp and hair? Cause weak dry dehydrated hair falls out more often then smooth silky hydrated hair. What are your thoughts on this?
Im balding and my hair is greasy af. It depends totally on your scalp and oil production. I need to shampoo my hair every day. For some it is only once a week.
Hey Matt, I appreciate your content! I have been taking 1mg per day for over a year now, I had great results, but am now realizing I am having side effects. I want to keep taking it, as I want to keep my hair, but I would like to reduce the side effects. Should I drop to .5mg per day for a while, and then .5mg EOD, or do you think I would be safe to go ahead and drop straight to the .5mg EOD?
I would suggest you 0.25 fin EOD and 0.5 dut once every week (so maybe every friday, per se).

hi matt, when you were on finasteride 3x a week, did you also use anything else to address dht? since you started losing your hair so early it is quite surprising that you didn't loose any more when lowering the dose.
I started with ru58841 about 2-3 months after I adjusted it. Taking RU now for 5 months

Great video, I also reviewed this research and wondered why more studies and or material has not been made available on micro dosing. I am currently taking 1mg 3 times per week and am of the understanding that fins half life will keep it at the .5mg continuously. However, after this video will be investing in a pill cutter. In the long term (after taking it for 1-2 months at least) it wont matter. Tissue binding of Finasteride is 4-5 days. Once you have a decent amount of Fin in your system, it wont matter if your further intake will be 0.5mg ed or 1mg eod in my opinion.

I used to take liposomal topical fin. I don't want to take two topicals at two different times as I don't think you can mix RU and liposomal topical Fin as these solutions have a hydroalcoholic vs liposomal base. I think I am close to finding a good risk/reward ratio dose with oral Fin so I will keep taking it. But for all of you who don't want to take oral F at all, a topical F 0.025% is great I think or liposomal Topical F 0.05%. I think I could replace my oral F with either of these two solutions without losing the efficacy achieved with oral F.

2 weeks if it was a minor beard transplant 1000 grafts or less. 3 weeks if it was a major BT like 1500 grafts and more. Avoid receiving head kicks for the first month after BT.

I've been on Fin for 3 years and my hair loss didn't progress at all I'd say.. With addition of a topical anti androgen like kx 826 nearing potential FDA approval in the future or even by adding low dose oral minoxidil I don't think I will even consider shaving my head in the next decade .

So you crush the pill and take equivalent of .5mg (half the powder )? How do you actually do it because it’s messy and powder gets stuck to surfaces. Do you mix in water ?

Odds you dht is still elevated in the scalp. You can have low dht systemically and still elevated dht in the scalp.
You would be a great candidate for a microdose level of topical fin in a liposomal form.

Matt, Ive been on 1mg a day for 2 months now. What is the earliest you or other people experienced side affects? sexually or mentally? Some people say nothing happens before 6 months or 12 months, some people quit after 1 month! So far I have only experienced being a little tired and unmotivated, but that could also mean because its hot summer... I don't know. I appreciate the feedback
I also quit it after one month, i got psycghological ed from too much reading forums 😂 i had also little sleep disorder and second week of using it my energy levels significantly decreased but it went away in third week. Some of little side effects were reversible for me. I want to jump on again but i am still scared the sh!t out of it 😂 also my morning woods still weak or non exists, i am 21 years old, this is my 45 days without finasteride but decreasing my morning woods may comes from my smoking addiction and poor sleep.
The most noticeable side effects like ED, libido problems, etc tend to appear within 4-6 weeks after starting based on what I observed so far with other guys. I never got those sides. I don't think you can get strong sexual sides out of the sudden after 1-2 years + of taking Finasteride. But I believe that if you go through a phase in your life when you feel down, a bit depressed, or lack motivation for prolonged periods of time, taking 5 AR inhibitory drugs can potentiate these feelings even further. Cycling Finasteride on and off + micro-dosing it, is the way to go for me.
@@pitbullsami8475 I took finasteride 1 time and I had bad sides the plan was to do 1 mg 3x a week so first day I took it was fine next day my wood was up but was weaker so I didn’t take it the day I was supposed too and my wood stayed weak, after 2-3 weeks of not taking the drug went back to normal, but then again had a drop in my woods hardness till after a couple of months I’m finally feeling great again.

Reduce to once daily application or ask your doctor for a lower concentration of finasteride. Most topicals are .25% which is actually way more than you need and probably ends up going systemic.

I think i had Some mood worsening after Fin , especially i dont enjoy things i used to enjoy doing (working out etc, ) i stopped for two months now and still feel the same. Not sure what to do. I also had lower libido, but that went back up after stopping Fin .

i got psycghological ed from too much reading forums 😂 i had also little sleep disorder and second week of using it my energy levels significantly decreased but it went away in third week. Some of little side effects were reversible for me. I want to jump on again but i am still scared the sh!t out of it 😂 also my morning woods still weak or non exists, i am 21 years old, this is my 45 days without finasteride but decreasing my morning woods may comes from my smoking addiction and poor sleep.
At 21 you can smoke 3 packs a day and you should still have morning erections as hard as the rock of gibraltar.

On what data are you basing your assumption that elevated libido and better EQ are due to AR upregulation, and not higher DHT levels? After all, DHT is a major contributor to libido and EQ.
After a while the libido normalises which means sensitivity is at play

I personally started with 0.5mg Finasteride every day (first 2 years), and then adjusted to 0.5mg every other day. Most of the time I didn't have any sides on this regimen.

I would personally stick to 0.2mg or 0.25mg. A topical equivalent of that would be 0.025% which has been also shown as a beneficial Topical Finasteride concentration with low plasma DHT suppressive effects - in a study from 2021.
I was scared of Finasteride before trying it. But after microdosing the topical finasteride (dissolved in Minoxidil) at 0,1mg daily for around ten days I´m more scared than ever and don´t really know what to do. I get sides like slightly decreased erections, decreased libido (fine for me) and pain in my groin. The last symptom is the worst. It doesn´t really hurt but feels very uncomfortable. The feeling is around my balls, towards my bladder and stomach and sometimes down to the knees. Feels kind of like having to pee constantly. Never had something like this before. I say scary, because that is such a tiny dose used as a topical compared to 10 or even 50 times as much orally. I don´t get it. I really don´t think it´s nocebo/placebo, because after 24h of not using the topical the feeling goes away until I use it again. Around 45-90 minutes after application this heaviness in my groin starts to build up. Any information about microdosing finasteride and having sides would be greatly appreciated!!
@GEHIRN WISSEN The amount that goes systemic should be so tiny that there shouldn't be any side effects at all. Effects would still be good, because it is applied to directly to the place it needs to be...
@GEHIRN WISSEN it's not more potent at a smaller dose. I use it as a topical!! Nothing to barely anything should make it into my body. That's the reason for using a topical in the first place. Otherwise I could just swallow the pill...

Depends on which product you choose. I am not sure about their newest addition of RU 58841. I am testing their 0.3% Retinol. I used their minoxidil products in the past and so did many guys I spoke with so all the minoxidil products are legit for sure + topical Finasteride products. I used their topical Dutasteride for 7-8 months in the past but havent noticed any improvements.

Are there any differences in serum DHT levels between 1.0 and 0.5 mg of finasteride?
Systemic DHT suppression is the same with 0.2mg - 5mg (about 68% - 72%). The problem of higher doses of fin is the accumulation effect in the long run. Plasma half life of finasteride is 6-8 hours. Let's assume it is 6 hours. The Day has 24 hours. If you take 1mg in the morning at 8 am, at 2pm the finasteride concentration in the plasma will be 0.5mg, at 6pm it will be 0.25mg, at midnight it will be 0.125mg, at 6am next day it will be 0.0625mg - which by the way still has about 50% ability to suppress DHT systemically. If you dose 1mg FIN every day for days, weeks, months, you will never give your body to have its DHT levels suppressed less than 50%. Over time it can result in side effects. If you use 0.25mg finasteride, start at 8am in the morning, at 2pm the finasteride concentration in the plasma will be 0.0125mg, at 6pm 0.0625mg (still 50% systemic DHT suppression btw), at midnight it will be roughly 0.03mg and in the morning hours when you wake up it will be 0.01mg - 0.015mg. I think, if you want to avoid hormonal side effects, it makes sense to use finasteride in the morning and ensure that when you are sleeping, you are not trying to maximally inhibit DHT with drugs while your body actually produces the highest amounts of androgens (T levels peaking in the morning hours between 6-8 am). Your body is recovering during sleep so you want to make sure that your DHT goes unsupressed. This will have positive effects on your hormonal balance in the long run in my opinion.
