The R32 is probably a little ahead of time when this video is made. But if I had the option between using R32 and R410A for a split air-conditioning system (home use), which one should I go for, given the same power (1.5hp) and negligible price differences?
Thank you so much for this video I have a Weather King 3 ton that uses R22 here in New York a lot of these HVACK techs will not share this info but tell you you need to change handler and drier system to 422D, or 438 A I have a 30pound can in my home as we speak, when it is no longer available I wanna see the look on the man face when I tell use these freeons my system is only 3 or 4 yrs old found a new one in FL had it shipped brand new in a crate manufactured in 2009 these guys were telling I needed to change handler and dryer then their crooks. God bless you for being honest and sharing this information!
I got a old Carrier window heating and cooling air con about 1972 model. If i can fit gas recharge fitting to it what gas could i use and at what PSI ???
Thank you so much for your video. We had a thief cut our outside unit loose and take it with him. He has been caught yay. Now the second thief came by to replace it and I could tell he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. it was an old r22 system. this guy wanted 25 dollars a pound for r407c and said he never changes the compressor oil that the old r22 was using. yea he be down the road with my money and the compressor will be on its last leg.
hey what are your thoughts on doing a former r22 unit to R424a? i bought a flush kit, and a new compressor, what type of oil does a R424a use? Any drawbacks to using R424A, instead of M099? Next question, my old ac unit is carrier, it shows it uses 8.8 lbs of freon which was R22. Is there a lb difference between r22 and r424a? Does R424a have to be put in as a gas or as a liquid, into the compressor? Next question, how much oil do you put into a system? is there a chart? if so let me know. Many thanks, I enjoyed your tube. thanks, Jarrod. :)
I have a PTAC that needs recharging. The new units come with 410A. Not sure what this older unit has as it came with the condo. Can it be recharged? I have the recharge kit but not sure what refrigerant to use. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Thankyou for the great info. I have a brand new 3 ton scroll compressor which is for an R410A system. Can I install it in my 3 ton R22 condensing unit (compressor mechanical failiure) and run R422D made by Honeywell. The manufacturer's spec sheet for R422D says, and I quote:"May be used with alkyl benzene (AB), mineral oil (MO), and polyolester (POE) lubricants." My new R410A compressor has POE oil in it. I would flush any residual mineral oil from the system first. Then I would evacuate, leak test and charge system with R422D. I know that R410A operates at much higher pressure. My thought is that since R422D mimics the same pressures as R22, then the scroll compressor should be able to do the job. I would appreciate your input on my idea. Thanks
I had the condenser replaced recently and I know for a fact that they did not charge it with R-22 but I THINK they used R422D. Can R422D and 438A be mixed together?
So what is 449a I was told it is a r22 replacement and how do you charge a unit that is so low on Freon it is short cycling and will not stay running long enough to draw for refrigerant in
Never had any issues with hotshot 417c nor nu22. Been using 417c for subzero and traulsens that ran on r12 when changing compressors and coils no issues yet, just gotta charge it a bit past the recommended pressures because once it cools, the pressure goes down quite a bit.
I wish people who do this for a living would understand the responsibility they have to educate/inform people of how dangerous this stuff can be and what happens when the hvac industry in the areas have blacklisted so many people who fall under their checklist of worthy of having air conditioning….
Hello, I like your video on the different freon. I was wondering if I replace my ground unit with a 410a ground 13 seer unit but still keep the same evaporator and valve assembly. And be able to use 422D in the system? You see are temp. here in Vegas get into the 107- 125 degree F. I like the properties in 422D especially the lower pressures. You see my A/C pressures get very close to max pressures of the ground unit. I think the only differences between units is the seals and oils. What are your ideas? Thank you for your time and have a great day.
My R22 condenser failed and I need to replace. 2000sq ft home in Tucson area. My heater works fine. I would like to use the freon that you recommend (blue bottle). Can you please recommend a replacement condenser that uses mo99 that you recommend? ty
I am retrofitting some 22's with 410 on my apartments and discovered my gauges will not go on the 410 tank. Would you tell me about the thread size and solution? Can I use an adapter or do I need a new set of gauges. I like the traditional needle gauge. Is that out the window regarding 410A and the MO99.
the charging diffuser is used to prevent the slugging of the compressor a diffuser should be used with any refrigerant that must be added in the liquid state.
Thanks for the information. a little longwinded, but I know half the info already :)It has defiantly given me good field information to make my decision to go to MO99 rather than the 422.Keep up the good work!
R410a is ozone depleting. R22 can still be bought from reclaim dealers. The nitmare of new Chinese made blends is oil absorbtion resulting in compressor oil loss and failure not to mention partial BTU capacity loss. I will stick to R22. thanks for the video, nice good info.
I have a Indian bead necklace just like the one your wearing, leather string, sitting in the box since 1980, just wondering if your interested in buying it.
come on dude r 410a is the sorriest ref even shoved down HVAC's industry's neck. it has cost the industry billions to refit to coil with a 500 psi burst pressure and still it has trashed more evap coils than any other ref. R12 and R22 the best. why do you think their are so many drop ins?
hai, i am using panasonic 1 ton inveter split ac having R410a in it , can u tell me what will be the ideal suction pressure and a discharge pressure for R410a system.also for R22 system what will be the ideal suction presssure and discharge pressure.your help will e highly appriciated
For inverter systems, they constantly change the pressures, so you have to rely on the system computers to tell you if there's a problem, and they must be charged from a vacuum by weight.
Is there anyone of them that could be used to top off a compressor that has r-22 that's low with out having remove all of the r22 if I don't really care about long term this ac is on the way out I just need to get a couple more mouth out of the unit
a repair man just admitted that he put r-22 in my heat pump that clearly says to use m099 (manufactured in 2015. I am afraid to turn on my unit, is that OK?
+Alpha Zero thank you for your response! thankfully we have a home warranty and our entire system is being replaced. a different tech tried draining the system and refilling with the mo99, but it still wasn't working properly. the guy that made the original mistake is never setting foot on our property again!
heatpump hvac i wouldn't use it for a heat pump most of the replacement refrigerants will have to be adjusted for each system as long as we have correct sub cooling and super heat they will work
I am not going to debate how dangerous it is, but I am not going to tell someone that they can use it without telling them the risks also. But I do agree that it works better than R22 or R410A. I actually use it in my window AC.
first time i have heard of this hotshot mix. It does seem like if the flash point is 480 degrees verses 1278 degrees simple science tells me that it would be more efficient. as a matter of fact if you take the one number divided by the second it almost corresponds with the savings claimed by find voltage. compressing the refridgerant from vapor to liquid is most of the cost. lpg/butane is not very toxic as people cook with it. Its already in your house so i am pretty sure it could be used safely. Instead of getting angry try to lean from others input. i admit my government pulled one over on me but most here wont so they send more military equipment to iraq to destroy the other equipment and when thats done they will leave this equipment as well. back to square one
the point is that people don't seem to understand is that we are talking about retro fitting r22 systems to propane. the r22 system was never designed to have propane used in it. the mineral oil that r22 compressors use becomes thinner and causes the compressor to burn up .take a compressor that is above the flash point of ignition and what do you think will happen the EPA has issued a warning about the problem and it is illegal to put LP into a r22 system use the link to see the EPA warning www.askexpertexpress.com/is-your-air-conditioner-going-to-explode/
M099 DOES NOT REQUIRE AND OIL CHANGE, BUT ITS HIGHLY RECOMMEND. THIS BLEND REFRIGERANTS AVOID IN A CONSIDERABLE PERCENTAGE THE RETURN OF MINERAL ( MO ) LUBRICANT BACK TO THE COMPRESSOR. ITS CAN WORK, BUT NOT RECOMMEND. BY REPLACING THE OIL, TO POLYESTER OIL ( POE ) EVEN THO ITS MORE WORK AND LABOR , BUT INCREASES THE LIVE AND PERFORMANCE OF THE COMPRESSOR BY PROPER RETURNING LUBRICATION TO COMPRESSOR AND LESS ACCUMULATION OF OIL INSIDE EVAPORATOR COILS, AND EVEN MORE RECOMMENDED IF CONDENSER UNIT IN HIGHER THEN THE EVAP COIL. LESS OIL IN EVAPORATOR COIL MEAN BETTER AND CLEANER BOILING PROCESS OF THE REFRIGERANT. EMERSON , COPELAND CONFIRMED THAT WILL VOID WARRANTY ON THEIR COMPRESSOR IF MO99 IS PRESENT IN MINERAL OIL, UNLESS IS BEEN REPLACE TO POE.
I think ur a very smart guy. But what u said about r290-600 was wrong. Stop listening to the guys selling you a very profitable product. The fact is that r290-600 is up to 60% more efficient and has '0' GWP & '3' ODP and thats the worst of it. R32 on the other hand will kill if inhaled just once when burned, its made by the same manufacturers prod u are advertising above these harmless hydrocarbon products. Let us see ur so called motor failures, and if they are failures I bet the customer placed the product on there without proper procedure. If what ur worried about is loosing business bexouse of customers DIYers u jave nothing to worry about but making more money as the joe blows of the world will destruct they're system in a flash tring to regas themselves
Oh boy, I thought you were ok till u started on about the propane series. U do not have your facts strait at all. The risk of failier to a system is in the hands of the technician in most instance and seldom the manufacturer. The new REFRIGERANTS R290, R600 series are in near full production in Europe and Australia is at 85% production for domestic fridges. Mainly electrolux. You were hesitating when you started talking about the 'lpg' series, then u preceded to further bury urself telling pple how devistating it is to a system and then shifted to scare mongering. U need to get ur facts straight. THis is a very important step in the wellbeing of our planet. Dont fuck that up as well
now you are talking about systems that are designed for the lpg as the refrigerant i am talking about dropping in lpg into a r22 system by a tech or a home owner that doesn't properly mark the unit to protect the next guy that makes a repair and is unaware that the system is leaking lp gas or the compressor burns up internally and burns thru the plug sending flames into the condenser that probably has a leak and now the home is a 3 alarm fire because you wanted some stupid tech or even worse a home owner to be able to add lp to there ac system there are a lot of safer refrigerants that require a epa certification to buy them and they wont cause the failure of the compressor because they wont thin out the mineral oil dumb ass
Relying on the previous servicemen to do their job right is a very dangerous procedure to follow, how much of your chosen trade do you know, especially since you have reduced your capacity to name calling. Also remember when you point the finger at people, remember you have three of your fingers pointing back at you. i believe you called me dumb ass. You use R32, don't you?. Now that is a highly dangerous substance to play with. it is flammable. bet you didn't know there are other flammable refrigerants that are not even marked flammable. Man, you have your facts very wrong. Google upper flammability limit, lower flammability limit. It is near impossible for a system to catch fire, because of the flammability limits. You are worried by the dupont corp scare mongering people out of an efficient, low costing, healthy for the environment, plentiful source of refrigerant. it is a real shame you dont see the benifits to this gas, i am charging the same amount of money to the customer as they would be paying for r410a and the likes. They are happy because they are paying up to 50% less with their electric bills. some customers can buy a new A/C system every 4 years with these savings.
findvoltage there is no way i would ever use r32 as a replacement for r22 precisely for the reason that it is toxic and highly flamable and almost all refriderants are toxic when burnt what i am talking about is this company pushing a blend of lpg and butane as a way for unlicensed homeowners and other people who cant pass a simple test to get a EPA certification so they can purchase the safer alternatives to r22 will put this highly flammable blend in to their ac system and not know the danger they are putting their family in or a apt maintenance man that is to stupid to pass a test uses this blend and puts multiple families at risk i am warning people of the hazards that are out there for a novice that thinks that they can just watch a video and buy this dangerous product and save money by doing it themselves without knowing that they are endangering themselves and others in the process i don't know where you live but if i cause a dangerous situation and it results in the death of someone i am the one that is going to jail for manslaughter and all refrigerants are flammable but the key point is at temp are they flammable for instance 438a is flammable at 1278 f the only way it is going to ignite is with a torch not from a lighter or a spark big difference from the LPG blends that ignite at 480 f a spark or a lighter can start the blaze i am all for the environment but i will not risk other peoples lives in the name of the environment ther are safer ways available to the licensed tech homeowners shouldn't be allowed to play hvac tech if you are converting people to a lpg blend then i pray for the poor familes that you have put in danger and if you cause someones death i hope they put you under the jail dumb ass
findvoltage I understand you like these refrigerants and all. But I am a licensed contractor and I don't want flammable refrigerants in my house. I don't want to have to work on flammable refrigerants. If the environment is the real purpose of all these rules then "LEAK REPAIR" should have been mandated. Just letting customers decide to recharge air conditioners has had far more effect than the type of refrigerant. You came on here ranting at this guy for his video. Where is your video? I wonder how many comments you would get with your love of propane? He clearly states " this is my opinion". I don't think he is using scare tactics.
thank you, this guy is a enviro Nazi that obviously dose not have a EPA card and is putting people at risk as he stated in his comment that he is ripping people off by using the propane and butane blend refrigerant when there are much safer alternatives available but only to the qualified licensed tech not dumb asses god forbid that he causes harm to someone i hope they put him away for life
oxygen is actually just O as its an element. Diatomic Oxygen is O2 and Ozone is O3. In the video, the guy says the chlorine can disassociate from the refrigerant R-22, mix with atmospheric oxygen (Diatomic oxygen) and yield Ozone (03)
That's not what he said....he stated that the chlorine atom bond with the O2 to make O3 which deteriorates the ozone....go back and listen and R22 is what he's talking about is CHClF2
zeke112964 are you asserting that this a/c repair man is qualified to teach Chemistry or be held to some academic or professional standard? Dont be ridiculous.
i used to do HVAC in the 80s and 90s......lots of new refrigerants out there now.......thanks for the update...:)

What do you think about 407C is it a good replacement for 22
I got a old Carrier window heating and cooling air con about 1972 model. If i can fit gas recharge fitting to it what gas could i use and at what PSI ???

I have a brand new 3 ton scroll compressor which is for an R410A system.
Can I install it in my 3 ton R22 condensing unit (compressor mechanical failiure) and run R422D made by Honeywell. The manufacturer's spec sheet for R422D says, and I quote:"May be used with alkyl benzene (AB),

Absolutely no
Which refrigerant would you use in a zone 1 or a very hot & dry climate? Also, which one between 410a & R32 perform better?

I've used NuSHot in several systems with terrific results and NO compressor failure...for many years now...........
Great explanation on the blends I think you did a great job as a tech I don't think other techs really can understand all the nuances of
Thank you
My question replacing r22 with 407c I saw video it says that is the way to do it do you have any comments about that thanks
thanks a lot man. i love your video. i watch it multiple times for my exam
+Jimmy carter i hope you passed
What is you take on 422B for a R22 heat pump? pro-cons ???
Why is there no mention of 407A?
I wish people who do this for a living would understand the responsibility they have to educate/inform people of how dangerous this stuff can be and what happens when the hvac industry in the areas have blacklisted so many people who fall under their checklist of worthy of having air conditioning….
What is the best one for throwing out the coldest air
Would heat pump with txv and scroll run more efficient with r134 instead of 410a?
Hello,
I like your video on the different freon. I was wondering if I replace my ground unit with a 410a ground 13 seer unit but still keep the same evaporator and valve assembly. Thank you for your time and have a great day.
Cruiz Gonzalez i would use a dry ship unit with the 422d insted of a 410 a the compressor is the r22 type and will work better in the long run
My R22 condenser failed and I need to replace. 2000sq ft home in Tucson area. My heater works fine. I would like to use the freon that you recommend (blue bottle).
Can you please recommend a replacement condenser that uses mo99 that you recommend? ty
Quick question, do you use the same gauge set for R-22 and mo99 ?Thanks for the info, good video. Larry
When changing refrigerants can the existing lines b used or do new lines have to be used ??
I am retrofitting some 22's with 410 on my apartments and discovered my gauges will not go on the 410 tank. Would you tell me about the thread size and solution? Can I use an adapter or do I need a new set of gauges. I like the traditional needle gauge. Is that out the window regarding 410A and the MO99.
Very good and fast service around
Very well done. Thank you so much.
Thx, 1st video that I understood on this topic
Can you explain the charging diffuser, when retrofitting with 422 D in liquid form.
the charging diffuser is used to prevent the slugging of the compressor a diffuser should be used with any refrigerant that must be added in the liquid state.
2:05 The Ozone Depletion Potential of R-22 is not 1.3 it's 0.055 per US EPA.
EightiesTV also said the chlorine will change o2 to o3, well it will break o3 not the other way
I got a r422d bottle but my gauge is for r22 and I can’t find a gauge online for r422d anyway I can use it or where I can buy one
Interesting video. Thanks
Thanks for the information. a little longwinded, but I know half the info already :)It has defiantly given me good field information to make my decision to go to MO99 rather than the 422.Keep up the good work!
thanks for the vid. must know by now u made a mistake @2:35 stated the processs backwards . nervous? good vid

Comment on 421a? Sounds like a valid alternative even for MO99.
Is there anyone of them that could be used to top off a compressor that has r-22 that's low with out having remove all of the r22 if I don't really care about long term this ac is on the way out I just need to get a couple more mouth out of the unit
***** thanks for the reply ya thats what i just read
can we replace the R410A compressor with R22 compressor?
Santosh Jha 410 a compressors operate at higher pressures so a r22 compressor wouldn't work on a 410 a system
a repair man just admitted that he put r-22 in my heat pump that clearly says to use m099 (manufactured in 2015. I am afraid to turn on my unit, is that OK?

R410A has a ODP of 1.3???? Um, why have I always read .05?
thanks u for this information
Can you mix 422a and mo99?
No, you cannot mix any refrigerants
Dude looks like Eminems Truck driving Twin
R438a i was told has a 20% compacity. Lost i don't know if its true or not
heatpump hvac i wouldn't use it for a heat pump most of the replacement refrigerants will have to be adjusted for each system as long as we have correct sub cooling and super heat they will work
Ok
how about R290 ? Can it replace r22 ??
Yes it can, it's a drop in replacement. But it's propane, so it's flammable.
+Avery Alexander definitely a concern, but I wouldn't be that concerned. r290 has better performance than r22 or 410a.
I am not going to debate how dangerous it is, but I am not going to tell someone that they can use it without telling them the risks also. But I do agree that it works better than R22 or R410A. I actually use it in my window AC.
thanks,,,,,bob
Can I put mo99 in my r22??????

They are happy because they are paying up to 50% less with their electric bills. some customers can buy a new A/C system every 4 years with these savings.
findvoltage
there is no way i would ever use r32 as a replacement for r22 precisely for the reason that it is toxic and highly flamable and almost all refriderants are toxic when burnt what i am talking about is this company pushing a blend of lpg and butane as a way for unlicensed homeowners and other people who cant pass a simple test to get a EPA certification so they can purchase the safer alternatives to r22 will put this highly flammable blend in to their ac system and not know the danger they are putting their family in or a apt maintenance man that is to stupid to pass a test uses this blend and puts multiple families at risk i am warning people of the hazards that are out there for a novice that thinks that they can just watch a video and buy this dangerous product and save money by doing it themselves without knowing that they are endangering themselves and others in the process i don't know where you live but if i cause a dangerous situation and it results in the death of someone i am the one that is going to jail for manslaughter and all refrigerants are flammable but the key point is at temp are they flammable for instance 438a is flammable at 1278 f the only way it is going to ignite is with a torch not from a lighter or a spark big difference from the LPG blends that ignite at 480 f a spark or a lighter can start the blaze i am all for the environment but i will not risk other peoples lives in the name of the environment ther are safer ways available to the licensed tech homeowners shouldn't be allowed to play hvac tech if you are converting people to a lpg blend then i pray for the poor familes that you have put in danger and if you cause someones death i hope they put you under the jail dumb ass
findvoltage I understand you like these refrigerants and all.
I don't think he is using scare tactics.
thank you, this guy is a enviro Nazi that obviously dose not have a EPA card and is putting people at risk as he stated in his comment that he is ripping people off by using the propane and butane blend refrigerant when there are much safer alternatives available but only to the qualified licensed tech not dumb asses god forbid that he causes harm to someone i hope they put him away for life
Ozone is O3 ...oxygen is O2....2:26
oxygen is actually just O as its an element. Diatomic Oxygen is O2 and Ozone is O3. In the video, the guy says the chlorine can disassociate from the refrigerant R-22, mix with atmospheric oxygen (Diatomic oxygen) and yield Ozone (03)
Your correct but mixing chlorine with O2 doesn't give you Ozene O3
you are incorrect:
CFCl3 + electromagnetic radiation → Cl· + CFCl2
Cl· + O3 → ClO + O2
That's not what he said....he stated that the chlorine atom bond with the O2 to make O3 which deteriorates the ozone....go back and listen and R22 is what he's talking about is CHClF2
zeke112964 are you asserting that this a/c repair man is qualified to teach Chemistry or be held to some academic or professional standard?
Dont be ridiculous.
