As a 78 year old geezer it makes me really happy to see you two discovering and enjoying the music like I did in years past. Watching your reactions makes me feel warm all over, Thank you for stirring up great memories.
After several minutes of deliberation, I realize that there are no words I can type to describe how “BIG”, Boston was in the mid-‘70’s…..Their music was played ubiquitously. Everyone knew it!
I was 18. Kids today have all music at their fingertips. Remember saving and getting a new album? The vinyl smell, the cover art, reading the lyrics for the first time. Threatening your younger siblings with death if the went near it? I guess I'm no different than any other generation of old people. Things were better in the old days.
Tom Scholz = genius. The first 2 (maybe 3) albums were such a delight to listen to. Albums after this didn't quite have the same magic, but you can't ignore what this man did from his basement and the fresh sounds he recorded. Great music and classic albums.
It was just 3 albums wasn't it? Boston, Don't Look Back, and Third Stage. First 2 were epic, you're right. Third Stage is good too but not quite the same. Came out MANY years later.
@@perfessermarshton5209 Remove some fat from the bottom end and cut some sugar off the top end, maybe add some fiber to the midrange and you get diet metal
"The feeling of when you get your license" - Yep! When I got my license I had this album and Rush 2112 on 8 track for a few weeks before I got a a Sony cassette player and Kenwood 6 x 9 speakers in my 72 Cutlass Supreme with a 350 Rocket engine. Great memories! (I was 16 in 1985)
Listening to Boston is like watching Brad & Lex...instantly puts you in a good mood and a smile on your face!! Hope everyone has a great weekend! ✌️ ☮️ 🎸🎶🎵🎼
Boston was the ultimate cruising on a Friday night band. They were also the best stoner band ever. I got high to Boston MANY a time. They are just a great all around band. I still turn them up when they come on in my car.
truly timeless...I also did many a bong hit whilst listening to Boston...Boston and weed were introduced into my life at near the same time...good times Kelli....hard to believe, Boston not in the RRHOH...bullshit!
Any time I hear Boston I immediately think of getting very high & playing frisbee at the park, with the car doors open & the stereo blasting this album out of the speakers.
EVERY song on this album is great! Perfectly engineered, well-performed, and each an ear worm. You have to listen to it on a great stereo to appreciate its genius!
My absolute favorite Boston tune! Saw them live in Wurzburg Germany in 1978! Moving around as an Army brat it brings out the adventurous nature of living a nomadic life and keeping a positive view.
This was my favourite Boston tune when I was a lad, and the first record I ever purchased for miself. The part of the song where the main guitar melody kicks back in with an heavily-produced ‘explosion’ after the quiet bit (‘Oh, the sun is shining, and I’m on that road,’ followed by a full band crescendo, and then the blast, and the riff…) Man, I used to just sit in front of mi record player and keep skipping the needle back to the beginning of that bit, and I’d feel that processed, reverb-laden drum hit kick me in the gut, and that ingenious melody in Tom’s huge guitar tone would just take me away. Two years later, upon discovering the joys of cannabis, I did it ALLL over again.
Brad Delp could hit notes only Dogs could hear & Tom Sholz was probably the greatest sound mixer/engineer to ever record his own album playing the majority of all the instruments on the album created in his very own basement. Incredible talent, and I LOVE the new term you guys just coined? "Diet Metal" will now forever be this bands genre!!
Boston's sound is one of my three favorite rock band all-time. This was the title track of their second album (after their debut went through the stratosphere).
Lol lol lol lol. The hummingbird versus a crow well acted out it meant Brad is like, I don't know man the crows make me feel like the leaves are just going to fall off the trees. I can relate to all of that so much, you guys are really cracking me up. I fucking love it.
I was born in the early 70s, and this record was played on my parents' record player consistently. I love Boston, amazing band! Good times, good memories. ❤
This song took on new meaning for me earlier this year when I got made redundant, which my (now former) boss also mishandled and what was left of our working relationship totally unravelled. But by the time I left, I had a new job lined up and, well, I haven't looked back. In fact, I played the album this track is from on loop in the car on my daily commute for the first few weeks at my new job. What a huge release.
I've gradually become more unhappy at my job. Reading your comment and hearing Brad & Lex talk about it and listening to this song, it feels like the stars are trying to tell me something! 😊
I love this damn song. This is one of my absolute favorite songs and I’m 53 years old. Been listening to all genres of music for a long time. this song makes me happy! I always listen to the song when I’m driving home from the beach. It’s so awesome. And don’t get me started on the freaking guitar solo. Listen you talking about driving for the first time is freaking me the hell out my daughter is turning 15 and I’m like oh my god she’s going to be driving soon! Freaks me out
These guys are so great! I so wish Brad Delp was around to see a new generation of fans that heard the band through Rock Band game and RUclips Era. I feel like they had a well deserved resurgence.
Like Lex cannot be any more adorable while wearing a Van Halen bandanna. All I need is that amazing smile to help me get through the day. Brad is a lucky man. Keep the videos coming, loving it!
Impossible task to match their debut. That said, this track checks all the right boxes. Definitely remember all the anticipation for this LP. Most radio stations set up a special time to debut this song.
Boston makes good driving music. If you are ever going on a long trip put on both of the 1st 2 albums (Boston and Don't Look Back) and just enjoy the ride and the music. Every song rocks.
My hubby & I went to see them in concert. We LOVE Boston. We have 3 cd's & even named a dog HOLLYANN after their song. You should check that one out. We have ticket stubs, t-shirts, but we don't remember a thing about that concert. Damn! I'm sure it was an awesome! I wonder what was in the air in the arena! Or someone spiked our drinks! We don't even remember going there or coming home. Major rabbit hole here. Please check out HOLLYANN.

Great, great song, my favorite from Boston. We all loved the first album, but for me this song was like taking everything they learned from the first album and putting it all together in one song. Wonderful, memorable guitar riff, one of the best ever.
The thing that Boston did that was uncommon at the time was to combine sheer power with strong melodies, in both the vocal and guitar lines. I was in high school when the first two records came out and listened to a lot of rock stuff: nothing else really sounded like them at the time.
Lex, your analogies are like a little treasure every time! I started driving the same time Boston's first album came out and you described that feeling perfectly.
This song is pure summer driving with the windows down on the country back roads. I remember many a nights blasting Boston & riding around with my friends. Foreplay/Long Time is an epic j, if you haven't dove it already.
To add to Paul G’s insight below. It seems to me like (I’ve been listening to them for almost 50 years) Boston’s overall vibe was “hope for the future”. Meaning, they are good to listen to when you are feeling defeated.
Boston is fun, '70s and '80 hard rock, prog rock. Kind of power pop, too. 🎸. They play their songs a lot on classic radio stations, grocery stores and movies lol. But, very uplifting music. My mom loves them, I like them, too since I was a kid during the '80s. They got a whole bunch of other good videos and songs yall should check out. Lex and Brad are right. Metal light, diet metal 😆 cool. They remind me of Stxy, another great band yall should check out.
I challenge anybody to find a guitar solo in any other song that "serves the song" better than this one. The solo is simplistic, but genius. You can hum it and it gets stuck in your head. Sometimes, less is more.

So cool watching y'all and sharing the awesomeness of Boston!!! Gurllll, I gotsta see them in concert before Brad sadly passed. RIP to prob one of my favorite vocalists. Loving yall!
For late 70s hard rock they were such a combination of catchy melodies, awesome harmonizing vocals, memorable guitar licks & solos, lyrics that we can all relate to, all of it. As other commenters here have said, it was difficult to find anyone by 1980 who did NOT like this band. Lex, it was fun watching you rockin' out to a Boston tune, in your Slayer shirt and Eddie Van Halen guitar design bandanna, lol, so cool. Brad hit the nail on the head, leaving the past behind him & moving forward: simple.
I totally remember in infinite detailed the first time I drove period it was in fourth grade and I won't go into the details but then I drove for a good significant portion of my life so I remember all of it quite well but Brad you got one thing backwards period if you call it metal lite, usually that is used when something already exists like Coca-Cola or Dr Pepper and then somehow people want a lighter version of it and so they release the light version of it. But this was before metal or concurrent with the early part of metal and they were their own phenomenon. So that doesn't really apply. I saw them when I was in 9th grade and they fucking rocked. Amazing. They are their own vibe. We've got to listen to a lot of their stuff and then you will figure it out. They were a combination of college dropouts and Tom Scholl I believe ended up being like an electronics engineer and then he quit his job and put that talent to making his own effects and mixing this unique sound that became boston. It became so overplayed that people came not to like it sometimes but it was groundbreaking and they really have a rich catalog of amazing songs. I can also see that as usual, Lex is feeling it. Picking out the little nuances of the guitar passages and expressing it. Love the reaction
You can always tell when a song is great. Lex smiles from beginning to end.
