Peter Beckett, the lead singer, came to America from England to try to make it big in the biz. His wife eventually got homesick, gave up on him, went home, & divorced him. He wrote this song about it, & became a star. Hope she was sorry! So many good-looking men in one band. My, oh, my! 🎸 🎹 🥁

I am a proud 71 baby and this kind of music is my life and I would take their concerts over a lot of them now, any one of them could sing lead and still be a platinum album. Singers thought process back then along with a different kind of heat added to the charisma of their music! Thank you and keep of your good work because as you feel our music you feel our souls. ❤

After having taking BABY COME BACK for granted lo these many years, I now seriously believe this is one of the best modern pop songs ever written and performed. From the lyrics to the melody and how every instrument and vocal harmony is on point and supercool. It's laid back and smooth but at the same time it has a harder edge than most R&B tunes. Simply brilliant.

If you grew up in the 70's into the 80's this is a very powerful and nostalgic song that conjurs up memories of lost love. Many young (and old) 'broken-hearts' jammed this one hard back in the day and it still reminds me of a few 'that got away' every time I hear it. For those of us that lived it, it can really bring back a major case of 'the feels'.
35 years later and I still love and miss you Gabrielle ❤.

Songs like this remind me of a time in which someone would buy a vinyl album and everyone in the neighborhood would come listen to it. Sittin' around, hardly talking, listening to the songs, but reacting/discussing each song between tracks. Sometimes, if we played the songs enough to know them, we'd "band sync" while we listened. Great for rainy days!!!

I was 16 when this album and song came out. It has such a smooth groove and the chorus is so well executed with the harmonies on point. I have this album and still listen to it today. Too bad they weren't more successful. The 70s were the best! Congrats on the soon to be new addition to your family.

I've had that happen, where you hear a song and it morphs into another song in your head. I think it's just brain wiring. Like we all have a DJ in our head and they just decide to go freestyle.

This is soft rock. We grew up listening to this and R&B/Soul on the radio in East Central Illinois.

This song came out when I was 6 years old. I remember riding around in the family station wagon and this song was playing all the time.

Epitomizes the 70's....which is a good thing; something all 70's music has- soul and feeling.

Been a favorite song of mine, ever since first hearing it all those decades ago.
And probably the most interesting thing (to me) about Player, is that the bass player went on to become an actor, starring in the CBS soap opera "The Bold and The Beautiful".

The dude on bass is none other than "Ridge Forrester" from "The Bold & The Beautiful"
Awesome track and the harmonies are silky blue-eyed soul.

Great song to me. Loved it back then still do Mark of a timeless song. I remember one other song by them, nothing like this. Great voice on lead hope he was successful in his career after this band disbanded.

Player did not mean that back then. They got the name from an old movie that listed the people in the movie under The Players, instead of cast or actors.

Another great one hit wonder with exactly the same title but different lyrics and more hard driving was by the British/Jamaican band The Equals in 1968. There is a very good black and white live or lip synched version of the song with excellent sound from a British TV dance show in 1968 here on RUclips.
