This song makes me melt. A guy in my piano class is playing it, and it took me ages to find it, but oh god was it worth it. I don't know how people can hate classical when there are songs like this.
This is by far my favourite piece. So relaxing but yet spiteful and fun. The tune puts a smile on my face every time. My day is incomplete with out this song, Grieg thank you.
Hello everyone I want to talk about how i found this song, because the time when i found out about it was a very special part of my life. Its almost 3 years ago now, i was in fourth grade back then and we just got an awesome new music teacher. I wont say any names, but he really was great. He teached us something about Edvard Grieg, i really found it interesting but the most interesting thing in the whole topic was the music of course. We listened to a few piano pieces of Edvard, they all sounded very good but there was this one song that immediately got me fall in love with it, it's this one. It felt like my heart wants to jump out of my chest when i first listened to it, like all my veins are throbing in the rhythm of the music. It was wonderful, and back then i had never ever felt something like that while listening to music - especially with classic music (i never liked classic before that). Thats when i found out that music is it for me, its not only a hobby but its a passion, it's my passion. I understood that music says so much even without words, it has its very own language and this language is so powerful and strong that it doesn't have to communicate with speaking, it communicates through the heart. But well, let's keep going with the actual story. A few weeks after we finished the topic Edvard Grieg, i forgot about the name of the song. But somehow i remembered this masterpiece of a song and i asked my teacher to tell me the name again. He wrote me a little Note with the name of it, and although already more than 2 years passed since that, i still have that note in my pencil case. I was listening to some piano music, when suddelny an Edvard Grieg piano song turned on and i suddenly remembered the song, so i had to surch for it again and listen to it. It feels crazy, because i didn't hear it for so long now...I just want to say, that im so greatful for this teacher we had in fourth grade, thanks to him i found out how much i love music and who knows where i would be right now, if he didn't make me notice it? I was in a chor class for 2 years, now im visiting a kid chor and in one year i can finally join the adult chor. I'm teaching myself the piano, and im also going to learn guitar or ukulele. When i was in third grade or lower, i wasn't able to think one minute about loving music that much, of course i loved singing my whole life but the passion i created for music in fourth grade, is something whole different, almost something magical!
Music is, by far, Humanity’s greatest creation, and classical is the best music. It takes you to a place with no walls or doors or windows. It’s takes you to a place that only music can take you. That’s why it will last throughout the ages.
@@damo408 Well,...I don't know. I don't believe music is a creation by humanity if I'm being quite honest. I think that music was always there in this world, maybe even in this universe. It surrounded us ever since, just waiting to get picked up, and the human species happened to be able to do just that. In my eyes - or should I rather say ears? Well never mind, but for me personally music is truly the greatest blessings us humans were exposed to. It is true that the reason for music never going out of style is that it has something magical and powerful about it, that you can not properly describe, only feel. We still need to know that there are people who will not be able to ever understand music the way we do though, they maybe feel the same way about something else that us music lovers can not understand. What I'm trying to say is that everyone's not there for music, but music will be there for anyone at any time, fully blossomed and ready to take you on a trip to destinations only emotions can guide you to.
I visited Troldhaugen last year- an amazing experience. For me, one of life's peak experiences. I could 'feel' Grieg in the old house. If you get a chance visit him there.
Agreed. Been there myself a couple of days ago. That place is no mere museum; it's special, as are its surroundings. For me this was an introduction to Grieg.
I heard this tune about 6 years ago and it's been going round in my head ever since. I just heard it on the radio a moment ago, and it was only my second time hearing it.
Yes, how true, where better to begin in music than with Grieg: he'll take you almost everywhere you've ever wanted to go, and point you in many other rewarding directions.
@@wira3359 I have no idea what you're saying, except that it seems pretty silly. Let's see, is it odd that an 80-year-old person looks back several decades on his wedding? Sorry you feel that way.
This is beautiful- I never tire of it. Grieg's music is quite something..........kids in my music classes get a decent intro to music appreciation when we listen to Grieg.
A girl I know played this at her piano recital once. Now I'm afraid I'll never see her again. and now I find myself coming back to this same song over and over again, because every time I listen to it, it reminds me of something I may never have. Music can do that. That's what makes it so amazing
At the moment I play the Melodie from grieg too. I'm 12 year old and I find the Melodie beautiful. It's Really one of my favorite melodies at the moment.
Im so glad I found this piece because I always have wanted to play it on the piano, and to be honest I dont find it too hard to play at all so thanks for puting this video up

I just performed this piece in concert today. I play it VERY closely to how this pianist performs it. I love the tempo for the first half. The middle section is a little fast for my taste. I like it to be slower...."more retrospective and nostalgic". I love the phrasing and articulation and the overall concept of this pianists interpretation. Who is this pianist, by the way? Bravo for a great performance! I may post my version on RUclips fairly soon. Cheers!!
@krntiger81 I finally identified it yesterday and ran to You Tube and can't stop listening to all the interpretations. There is an actual recording of Grieg playing it recorded in 1903. It is magic.

Briana Farrell No, it sounded composed to me-with a touch of extra time given by the performer, as if to say, “No, it’s not a mistake!” It’s there again at the reprise, around 5:08…
I know Grieg himself played this piece a lot faster but maybe that's evidence that the composer doesn't always know best. In my view this piece gains enormously from being slowed down to the speed of this recording. The fast ones are unlistenable to me. Anyway - thanks for posting!
Yes, this is the way this piece should be played in my opinion, it sets the standard. You can actually hear Grieg play this number on Wikipedia. Recorded in 1903.
