One thing that this episode absolutely nailed is Starfire's role in the team. Even in the original Teen Titans comic, Starfire is the heart. The emotional glue that holds everyone together. So it would make sense that, if she was gone for 20 years, the team would fall apart.
I find that hard to believe. You, and other back in 2016 have said so many times that StarFire is the glue that holds the team. But I don’t really believe that because since this episode focuses on Starfire, she is suddenly that glue. I would believe it if she was many times holding the team together in pst episodes but that seemed to only be the case for this episode. Similar to that justice league episode “Secret Society”. The League believes that they aren’t functioning well as a team more efficiently but the only time they don’t function efficiently like they say is only within that episode just for the plot in order for it to follow through which doesn’t make sense considering that they worked effectively as a team episodes prior to that one. If the team was functioning poorly in previous episodes that led to that point in “Secret Society” then it would make sense just I would take StarFire being the glue that held the team on many occasions in prior episodes before this one seriously but i can’t because this seems to be the only episode where StarFire is that glue. Since 2010 I have been confused as to why people keep saying that Starfire is this glue but it is only relevant for this episode. Therefore I can’t take this seriously about this episode being so emotional as you guys are always making it out to be for the past 14 yrs.

The irony of Robin in this episode is since he is character that already deals with so much stress in the story its easy to accept that even in the darkest timeline he'll be the most likely to live a some what productive life.
Well, if you really think about it, he's already been the worst experience any kid could have: Losing their parents. In his case, he was lucky to be taken in by someone who became a surrogate, and helped guide him.

I love the title of this episode so much, it’s one of my favorite titles of all time. “How long is forever” sounds pretty simple at first, but it hits you in the feels the more you think about it.
Something interesting about this episode is how it shows how different 2 perspectives can be. When Starfire first ended up in the dark future, she was certain it could be changed, that she could rewrite the past to save the future. She was willing to chart her own path, to not let destiny determine her fate. Warp, on the other hand, while acting like he's better and smarter because of how much he understands time travel, actually has no clue. He literally says "history says this (referring to the clock he stole) went missing, because I went back in time to steal it". Warp only went back in time to steal the clock because he knew history says he did. He didn't even question if he HAD to go back in time to steal it because history said he did, he just did it. Unlike Starfire, who defied destiny to change history by her choice, Warp is a prisoner of destiny, doing exactly what it told him to do without question. His fate was only then changed by Starfire and the Titans causing his device to malfunction and reverse his personal time instead of sending him his future. The duality is actually pretty interesting if you step back at examin it
This was one of the most serious episodes of Teen Titans and definitely one of the most serious stand-alone episodes, (the Doom Patrol arc was serious but it was an arc) and the stakes in this episode were very grounded and relatable.

This came out when when I was 8?! 😅20 years does change. From having a little sibling at 20 from going to college. To now seeing my cousin going to graduate high school. It seems like yesterday I was chilling. Now as adult I have looked different.
I can’t believe it’s already been 20 years since this episode first aired. I used to think 20 years was very far away. I’ve lost many friends, jobs, and other types of opportunities since then. Nice video. Makes me self reflect a bit
I think one major element that most people miss is that the future show what happens to them naturally. Robin does become Nightwing, Raven will face her father and start wearing those white robes and cyborgs tech will become out of date but the thing that the episode quietly says is that they didn't have to be alone but by drifting apart they got the worst outcome for those changes

Things change, but life is change. Change doesn't have to be all bad. Change is an opportunity to explore new worlds, to learn, to grow, to do what you have never done before, what you couldn't do before. Change is how we overcome painful memories and regrets. Change is a pathway to the future, and unlike the past, the future has yet to be decided. The future can be whatever we make of it, but first we have to face it on our own terms and take an active role in building it.
I had a best friend who moved away and later died untimely, but the last picture of him taken when he was 19 showed he was experiencing male pattern baldness. It appeared to have started as early as age 15-16, and the subsequent school pictures displayed at his memorial showed his hair got thinner and thinner each year until his head looked like Beast Boy's. As for me, who is in his early 30s, my hair is thick, full, and growing more wild each year as my mom wonders where my hair is getting its curls and waves (everyone in my immediate family has straight hair).
It can happen due to stress and a poor self image. Beast Boy even stated that he kept losing a lot of fights once the Titans Split, and because of his constant state of losing, it caused him to have a poor self-image of himself. This, plus the fact that he may have even started blaming himself for Starfire's disappearance (Something he wasn't even at fault for), causes him to start aging prematurely and suffering from stress-induced balding.
I gave up on TTG since 2015 or 16 but now I wonder if they have any good episodes because a show that's lasted for a decade now has to have been doing SOMETHING right. Edit:6 years ago, Alpha Jay talked about the GOOD episodes as well as IGN 5 years ago. I've also seen three of its' movies, Teen Titans Go To the Movies, Teen Titans Go Vs Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go See Space Jam and I actually enjoyed all of them. I'm just saying that between so many bad episodes, there has been some diamonds in the rough.
I think the big issue is that TTG went through a major identity crisis after its 1st season and tried to cram as many ideas into the show as possible [including the VERY odd decision to dabble in internet drama commentary], but nowadays it's settled comfortably into its position as a snarky parody of the DC universe.
Watch Starfire's ending in the game Injustice 2. It's bitter sweet. After she beats Brainiac, she thinks about how she's the last original member of the Titans and how the other members are either dead or gone. But then she realizes who is still with her and she made new friends and started a new team. When I saw it the first time I instantly thought of this episode. Check it out if you never saw it.

They don't consider that when things change, things will be different. But Not over, not gone, not ruined, not ended. Things are just different. We need to be willing to let change happen and to change again if the direction is wrong. Not be afraid to try.

The episode and score reminds me of the game "This War Of Mine" that is a survival game about real people who have to live in a war torn world. The darkness is very similar to this even having the same small glimmers of hope here and there.
You know we're also 20 years seperated from Static Shock's "Future Shock" the Static Shock/Batman Beyond crossover that brought together two of the DCAU's few teen heroes that is ....fine but doesn't hold the sentimaental weight of an episode like this.
I was born too late to watch the OG Teen Titans and binged TTG constantly. The OG did show occasionally, but I never thought it would be better. Now, as an adult, I definitely wish I saw the OG show, and I feel a lot of cringe looking back at TTG. Sometimes, I even feel uncomfortable reading or writing down "Teen Titans," even on the phone screen I'm typing this on
This whole episode is one of 5 reasons why this is my second favorite show of cartoon network but also one of the best super hero shows and one of the best shows of all time
I saw this episode for the first time quite recently. It was a bonus episode on the 'Teen Titans GO! vs Teen Titans' DVD. They clearly wanted to feature the best of both series, and they definitely made a good choice with this episode.
It's amazing how much influence this show has had on other DC shows. I can't believe it didn't get any crossovers, especially in Static Shock, and yes I'm still salty about that line Batman said in SS about the Titans.

What i just realized is that, unless this is a multiple timelines scenario, Warp is not only regressed into an infant but he is also erased from existance along with the dystopian future. Which is freaking dark since unless he retained his memories he could have been reraised to be a good person. it'd be one thing if the future Titans were holding him off as an adult so Starfire could change the future ultimately sacrificing themselves. Or Starfire takes the regressed Warp to the past. But...they essentially turn the villain into a baby and kill him off right after.
Who the hell deleted my comment? All I said was I found the episode to be one of my favorites in the show for its atmosphere, music, action, and themes.
The really interesting thing about this episode is, one could be very confused at first since, in episode 62 Go!, Starfire says the closest word to "friend" on her planet is "weak". But, at that point in her life, aside from her personal trainer, she'd never experienced kindness or friendship because she was under her sister's thumb. This being a holiday of her people isn't weird if you keep that in mind, because Blackfire likely spent years poisoning Starfire's views with toxic reinforcement, so, while she'd have been aware of the holiday prior to the events of Go!, she'd have viewed it the way her sister had planned, negatively. After months on Earth living with the Titans and being allowed to just be herself, however, her opinion has drastically shifted and she now understands how important friends are and thus why the holiday is so incredibly important and now dear to her, hence her dramatic reaction when she thought the other Titans were going to draw the Rakma, and why she was so extremely angry at Warp and then so determined to fix the future. It's both heartwarming and extremely sad when you realise this
Teen titans and justice league had episodes where they lose a team member and the team falls apart or turns bad. Star fire goes into the future. Team breaks apart. Flash is taken out by lex Luther and we get the future dictator justice league. Both red haired characters too btw. Guess losing your red haired team member leagues to tragedy Young justice too as kid flash did the same thing passing away and the team and audience became a wreck

Even after everything that I went through, from school, to college, from my first job to my current one, I survived, even if I don't know what happens in the future. There has been various changes in my lifetime, but I still keep moving forward. This episode did teach me the past cannot be changed, but I can still change my present and future.
Things definitely change. We'll probably never get shows like Teen Titans again, since everyone is clamoring to make the next big trendy thing that can be all over Tiktok. I can relate to Starfire REALLY well in this episode. I've been experiencing people drifting away from me this past year, people I've known for a very long time. People who I thought I had a chance of a future with. It got to a point where I wasn't even sure I wanted to live anymore. I'm doing better now, but it was looking pretty bleak. Much like Starfire and the rest of the Titans, all I can do is move forward. I will always love these Teen Titans. They were heroes to me then, and they're heroes to me now in these dark times.

(Before watching the video) : 20 years since I saw this episode.... Kinda. I am pretty sure this episode aired in my country in-between 2005 and 2007. But still..... It feels unreal 3:29 I get the feeling. Seeing a cousin you have known since they were a small child, now a grown up adult, is kinda disorienting, even if you already knew it, it is different experiencing it in person

Interesting you keep repeating “things change” as that’s the rather controversial final episode of the show (I know the Trouble in Tokyo movie is the last storyline for this iteration of the show, the TTG crossover was years later). Personally I don’t have the issues with it that many seem to do. Yes, having the big battle as the finale is usual but the impact of the Titans not knowing Jump City as they used to is something you feel more for as you get older. The lack of closure around if the girl really is Terra also reflects how we don’t always get answers in life, it’s how we deal with that and Beast Boy makes closure out of the lack of it to help his teammates.
How Long is Forever and Things Change are my personal favorites because of how the message still stands 20 years later. Things do indeed change, and you can't hang on to the past, even though they were, or were perceived to be, better days. You have to accept what is now and adapt to it, changing with it. That is the only way to move forward with life. People will also change, some for the good and others bad. Friendships fade, with no fault to either side. But it is life. It is never stagnant, for that would mean the end of life. It is ever changing. As a side note, the official soundtrack for seasons 1 and 2 have been released last year and are available to listen to.
Well spoken For me, the final episode “Things Change” has since grown on me over the past 15 years. Originally, when I found out it was the last episode as a kid I *hated* it because it didn’t to me feel like a finale like the previous episode “Titans Together”. But looking back, “Things Change” feels more like an epilogue to the show. And now as an adult having experienced a lot of change since the episode aired I appreciate it a *lot* more
So apparently Raven not having friends stops Trigon from taking over the earth. According to the later episodes, Raven is supposed to open the portal like a few months or maybe a year after this episode, but clearly she didn't otherwise the city would have been destroyed. OR did Warp stop the apocalypse by stealing the clock? In the timeline where he steals it, Trigon doesn't take over (at least not for 20 years and since he was originally gonna go 100 years in the future, it's safe to say Trigon never takes over the earth). But months or maybe a year after this episode, Raven has her birthday and then later opens the portal. This happens in the timeline where the clock isn't stolen. Is the clock the key to Trigon's plans??
This episode reminded me of the 1946 classic film “It’s a Wonderful Life” where one person being absent in life changed everything. And also, this episode originally aired on my 9th Birthday. Well, this was a weird video. I guess it's been 20 years since i saw this episode for the first time too but i'm pretty much the same person now i was then. For better or worse. It was a good episode, but there was one thing that always bothered me about it...what happened with trigon? It sounds like the team didn't last long without starfire and even if they did last until raven turned 16 i doubt they could've beaten trigon without starfire. I guess the justice league could have handled it, but that kind of defeats the entire purpose of the show/comic. So, i kind of have to write it off as the only plot hole in an otherwise perfect episode.
ReBoot animation got better between seasons, & the meturity level aged with it's audience. Teen Titans had a midlife crisis & a mental breakdown, & became TTG; condecending with shitty art. What asshole is ultimately responsible for canceling Teen Titans & recycling it into Teen Titans Go?
The title made me think this was a re-review of "Things Change". Edit: For those who didn't see it, this video was originally titled "Teen Titans and How Things Change".
One thing I think you MAY have overlooked is it's very reasonable (and almost implied) that it was BECAUSE Starfire was absent that the friends grew apart. In other words, there are two futures: one where Starfire vanishes and one where she doesn't.This episode follows the former while the rest of the series follows the latter. It is possible Starfire was the glue that kept the team together, which makes sense because that's often her role, like you point out in the video. At 4:57 Warp is lecturing Starfire because the "damage" Starfire is talking about already occurred in the past (her getting sent into the time vortex). There's no way to 'undo' that damage FROM THIS TIMELINE, which is why Warp says "history cannot be changed". When Starfire returns with the clock, she claims history was wrong, which is incorrect. In Warp's timeline, it is confirmed that the clock was stolen in the past. Warp goes back in time and is thwarted when attempting to steal the clock. THEREFORE Warp is not in his original timeline, he's in a different timeline where the clock is never stolen. The individual who steals the clock in Warp's timeline is Warp, but another Warp from a different timeline. That Warp is actually successful, as confirmed by the historical archive. TLDR: History can't be changed, but you can change timelines. One could make the argument that this reality would occur whether Starfire was present or not. However the butterfly effect says otherwise, as her presence would massively alter the future. She's a core part of the teen titans team and essentially they need her. She balances out the negativity from Raven and is an emotional tether for Robin.

Beast boy looking like he's in his 50s when he's around 36 and Robin looking hot is the duality of Millennial aging
I had a best friend who moved away and later died untimely, but the last picture of him taken when he was 19 showed he was experiencing male pattern baldness. It appeared to have started as early as age 15-16, and the subsequent school pictures displayed at his memorial showed his hair got thinner and thinner each year until his head looked like Beast Boy's.
As for me, who is in his early 30s, my hair is thick, full, and growing more wild each year as my mom wonders where my hair is getting its curls and waves (everyone in my immediate family has straight hair).
Probably make more sense if it was 30 instead of 20 years
It can happen due to stress and a poor self image.
Beast Boy even stated that he kept losing a lot of fights once the Titans Split, and because of his constant state of losing, it caused him to have a poor self-image of himself.
This, plus the fact that he may have even started blaming himself for Starfire's disappearance (Something he wasn't even at fault for), causes him to start aging prematurely and suffering from stress-induced balding.

I gave up on TTG since 2015 or 16 but now I wonder if they have any good episodes because a show that's lasted for a decade now has to have been doing SOMETHING right.
Edit:6 years ago, Alpha Jay talked about the GOOD episodes as well as IGN 5 years ago. I've also seen three of its' movies, Teen Titans Go To the Movies, Teen Titans Go Vs Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go See Space Jam and I actually enjoyed all of them. I'm just saying that between so many bad episodes, there has been some diamonds in the rough.
I think the big issue is that TTG went through a major identity crisis after its 1st season and tried to cram as many ideas into the show as possible [including the VERY odd decision to dabble in internet drama commentary], but nowadays it's settled comfortably into its position as a snarky parody of the DC universe.

Watch Starfire's ending in the game Injustice 2. It's bitter sweet. After she beats Brainiac, she thinks about how she's the last original member of the Titans and how the other members are either dead or gone. But then she realizes who is still with her and she made new friends and started a new team. When I saw it the first time I instantly thought of this episode. Check it out if you never saw it.

Yeah. This episode was bleak. Though, it was a confirmation that this series' Robin is in fact Dick Grayson, the Robin that became Nightwing.
My favourite line in the episode is when Beast Boy is devastated about his future self and he 's like "bald? You're telling me I'm gonna be bald?? mmm😭' 😂😂😂

They don't consider that when things change, things will be different. But Not over, not gone, not ruined, not ended. Things are just different. We need to be willing to let change happen and to change again if the direction is wrong. Not be afraid to try.

The episode and score reminds me of the game "This War Of Mine" that is a survival game about real people who have to live in a war torn world. The darkness is very similar to this even having the same small glimmers of hope here and there.
You know we're also 20 years seperated from Static Shock's "Future Shock" the Static Shock/Batman Beyond crossover that brought together two of the DCAU's few teen heroes that is ....fine but doesn't hold the sentimaental weight of an episode like this.
I was born too late to watch the OG Teen Titans and binged TTG constantly. The OG did show occasionally, but I never thought it would be better. Now, as an adult, I definitely wish I saw the OG show, and I feel a lot of cringe looking back at TTG. Sometimes, I even feel uncomfortable reading or writing down "Teen Titans," even on the phone screen I'm typing this on

A deep look at a deep episode.
This whole episode is one of 5 reasons why this is my second favorite show of cartoon network but also one of the best super hero shows and one of the best shows of all time
On the other end, we have "Staring at the Future" from Teen Titans Go where everyone is happy in the future but Beast Boy and Cyborg ruin it for them
I saw this episode for the first time quite recently. It was a bonus episode on the 'Teen Titans GO! vs Teen Titans' DVD. They clearly wanted to feature the best of both series, and they definitely made a good choice with this episode.
It's amazing how much influence this show has had on other DC shows. I can't believe it didn't get any crossovers, especially in Static Shock, and yes I'm still salty about that line Batman said in SS about the Titans.

What i just realized is that, unless this is a multiple timelines scenario, Warp is not only regressed into an infant but he is also erased from existance along with the dystopian future. Which is freaking dark since unless he retained his memories he could have been reraised to be a good person. it'd be one thing if the future Titans were holding him off as an adult so Starfire could change the future ultimately sacrificing themselves. Or Starfire takes the regressed Warp to the past. But...they essentially turn the villain into a baby and kill him off right after.
Who the hell deleted my comment? All I said was I found the episode to be one of my favorites in the show for its atmosphere, music, action, and themes.

The really interesting thing about this episode is, one could be very confused at first since, in episode 62 Go!, Starfire says the closest word to "friend" on her planet is "weak".
But, at that point in her life, aside from her personal trainer, she'd never experienced kindness or friendship because she was under her sister's thumb.
This being a holiday of her people isn't weird if you keep that in mind, because Blackfire likely spent years poisoning Starfire's views with toxic reinforcement, so, while she'd have been aware of the holiday prior to the events of Go!, she'd have viewed it the way her sister had planned, negatively.
After months on Earth living with the Titans and being allowed to just be herself, however, her opinion has drastically shifted and she now understands how important friends are and thus why the holiday is so incredibly important and now dear to her, hence her dramatic reaction when she thought the other Titans were going to draw the Rakma, and why she was so extremely angry at Warp and then so determined to fix the future.
It's both heartwarming and extremely sad when you realise this
Teen titans and justice league had episodes where they lose a team member and the team falls apart or turns bad.
Star fire goes into the future. Team breaks apart. Flash is taken out by lex Luther and we get the future dictator justice league.
Both red haired characters too btw. Guess losing your red haired team member leagues to tragedy
Young justice too as kid flash did the same thing passing away and the team and audience became a wreck

Even after everything that I went through, from school, to college, from my first job to my current one, I survived, even if I don't know what happens in the future. There has been various changes in my lifetime, but I still keep moving forward. This episode did teach me the past cannot be changed, but I can still change my present and future.
Things definitely change. We'll probably never get shows like Teen Titans again, since everyone is clamoring to make the next big trendy thing that can be all over Tiktok. I can relate to Starfire REALLY well in this episode. I've been experiencing people drifting away from me this past year, people I've known for a very long time. People who I thought I had a chance of a future with. It got to a point where I wasn't even sure I wanted to live anymore.
I'm doing better now, but it was looking pretty bleak. Much like Starfire and the rest of the Titans, all I can do is move forward. I will always love these Teen Titans. They were heroes to me then, and they're heroes to me now in these dark times.
Knowing a cousin younger than you has a job feels odd. knowing several cousins you remember when they were babies have jobs now is much much stranger.

(Before watching the video) : 20 years since I saw this episode.... Kinda. I am pretty sure this episode aired in my country in-between 2005 and 2007. But still..... It feels unreal

This is one of the best videos you've done and I am here for it. I haven't even seen the Teen Titans episode but the presentation of your feelings are very universal and hit close to home.

I watched this on the first snow day of the year.
Interesting you keep repeating “things change” as that’s the rather controversial final episode of the show (I know the Trouble in Tokyo movie is the last storyline for this iteration of the show, the TTG crossover was years later). Personally I don’t have the issues with it that many seem to do. Yes, having the big battle as the finale is usual but the impact of the Titans not knowing Jump City as they used to is something you feel more for as you get older. The lack of closure around if the girl really is Terra also reflects how we don’t always get answers in life, it’s how we deal with that and Beast Boy makes closure out of the lack of it to help his teammates.

How Long is Forever and Things Change are my personal favorites because of how the message still stands 20 years later.
Things do indeed change, and you can't hang on to the past, even though they were, or were perceived to be, better days. You have to accept what is now and adapt to it, changing with it. That is the only way to move forward with life.
People will also change, some for the good and others bad. Friendships fade, with no fault to either side.
But it is life. It is never stagnant, for that would mean the end of life. It is ever changing.
As a side note, the official soundtrack for seasons 1 and 2 have been released last year and are available to listen to.

For me, the final episode “Things Change” has since grown on me over the past 15 years.
Originally, when I found out it was the last episode as a kid I *hated* it because it didn’t to me feel like a finale like the previous episode “Titans Together”.
But looking back, “Things Change” feels more like an epilogue to the show. And now as an adult having experienced a lot of change since the episode aired I appreciate it a *lot* more
So apparently Raven not having friends stops Trigon from taking over the earth. According to the later episodes, Raven is supposed to open the portal like a few months or maybe a year after this episode, but clearly she didn't otherwise the city would have been destroyed.
OR did Warp stop the apocalypse by stealing the clock? In the timeline where he steals it, Trigon doesn't take over (at least not for 20 years and since he was originally gonna go 100 years in the future, it's safe to say Trigon never takes over the earth). But months or maybe a year after this episode, Raven has her birthday and then later opens the portal. This happens in the timeline where the clock isn't stolen. Is the clock the key to Trigon's plans??

Well, this was a weird video. I guess it's been 20 years since i saw this episode for the first time too but i'm pretty much the same person now i was then. For better or worse. It was a good episode, but there was one thing that always bothered me about it...what happened with trigon? It sounds like the team didn't last long without starfire and even if they did last until raven turned 16 i doubt they could've beaten trigon without starfire. I guess the justice league could have handled it, but that kind of defeats the entire purpose of the show/comic. So, i kind of have to write it off as the only plot hole in an otherwise perfect episode.

One thing I think you MAY have overlooked is it's very reasonable (and almost implied) that it was BECAUSE Starfire was absent that the friends grew apart. In other words, there are two futures: one where Starfire vanishes and one where she doesn't.This episode follows the former while the rest of the series follows the latter. It is possible Starfire was the glue that kept the team together, which makes sense because that's often her role, like you point out in the video. At 4:57 Warp is lecturing Starfire because the "damage" Starfire is talking about already occurred in the past (her getting sent into the time vortex). There's no way to 'undo' that damage FROM THIS TIMELINE, which is why Warp says "history cannot be changed". When Starfire returns with the clock, she claims history was wrong, which is incorrect. In Warp's timeline, it is confirmed that the clock was stolen in the past. Warp goes back in time and is thwarted when attempting to steal the clock. THEREFORE Warp is not in his original timeline, he's in a different timeline where the clock is never stolen. The individual who steals the clock in Warp's timeline is Warp, but another Warp from a different timeline. That Warp is actually successful, as confirmed by the historical archive.
TLDR: History can't be changed, but you can change timelines.
One could make the argument that this reality would occur whether Starfire was present or not. However the butterfly effect says otherwise, as her presence would massively alter the future. She's a core part of the teen titans team and essentially they need her. She balances out the negativity from Raven and is an emotional tether for Robin.
