Awesome stuff. People who complain do not understand TAS, segmented runs, eng manipulation, game theory and fun. It requires a lot of skill, luck, time, and patience. And is entering to me to see the result.

He only learned the most optimized map seeding and where the perfect drops along side that and combined them with planning and experimenting for 6 months...yup no skill. If you had all the luck in the universe this is technically the quickest run you could ever achieve. This is the ceiling.

Honestly I don't know how much work goes into these theoretical things but if someone has the ability to make a theoretical fastest speed run for each character that becomes Super interesting to watch and see the time difference per characters with best drops
With D2R coming up, with it's shared stash and all, it could be interesting to see a speedrun where you have all the equipment necessary already in your stash.

It would be so astronomically small that it would be impossible in practice. It would be one of those statistics like it would take 10^22 lifetimes of the universe worth of trying this for this to happen. There is actually the concept of something being so improbable that it actually meets the threshold of impossible.
infinite improbability and impossible is not the same thing though. There's a chance that your couch turns into solid gold the next time you try and sit on it. But, just as this run, it will never never ever happen. Not in this universe and not in the infinite universes to come

It's a speed run. you only pick up required gear. If it's not required, picking it up, regardless of what it is, is detrimental towards your goal. The point of the run is to get through the game, not collect rare gear.
I have been watching MrLamaSCs videos whilst away from home and I too have gotten a sudden urge to boot up the ol' game again. Any recommendations? So to clarify: everything is legit EXCEPT he hacked the drops incredibly to give himself insane items exactly as he needed them. the items themselves are real, they have not been hacked to give like +50 to all skills or anything, they're normal items.
some don't understand that this is theoretical and the chance to get these maps and drops is 1 in billions or probably worse. but it was fun to watch. i saw something similar but to hell difficulty a long time ago it was done by LaVsr i think

This reminds me of the Diablo 1 sorcerer speed run that was like 3:12. Of course you cant really do it but it shows you how breakable the game is under the right circumstances. It would be cool to see him do other classes. Keep up the great content!
my favourite type of game speedruns are in games where there's a lot of chance involved. in a lot of games there is a absolute fastest possible run that you can see and work towards, but in a game where there's so much chance like Diablo 2 then it gives runners a lot more time to practice and keep working at it because even though there's a lot of chance involved there's still a huge amount of skill required and its like this beautiful balance that makes the speedrunning of Diablo 2 extremely interesting.

You can find map seeds and set them in vanilla even if you really want to, but that's banned in normal speedrunning. I don't have much interest in making a mod though myself
I got a string of really crazy RNG on battle net. made a sorc and got 2 magic ring with extra gold and fcr! my fav starters. and made a crafted amulet with 10 fcr, 1 lightning skills and resist.
Ethereal rare pike on act 2 merc., might be a thing. Could be gambled, if drops are not available for them. would be fitting to have it with amplified damage, of course insane damage and stuff. I can imagine it being good, but obviously wouldn't know if it saved time, in the end.
I don't feel this run was a waste at all. The chances of this happening as a whole might as well be 0, but bits and pieces of this could happen in our runs. Having a maximum best case scenario gives us a better view of where our runs stand. Makes me sad that some people in chat can't see the value in this.
Does anyone know how long the segments are? By that I mean, how often does he save state (or whatever method is used) and rerun the segments? After every kill roughly? Drops seem to perfect to have longer segments. Also, which parts of the run were modded for perfect RNG and how? Also anyone know of any info on how to replicate a TAS like this. Why is receiving a critical when consuming a greater mana potion a negative? If I understood correctly - if you get hit by a critical while consuming a potion it value increases. So it would lead to you restoring your mana anyway. Or am I misunderstanding something?
if it restores your mana way too quickly, your mana orb will fill up to the max, and then you will stop regenerating mana. by keeping that value below the max, consistently, you can always regenerate mana. that is to say, if his max mana were way higher, it would be a good thing to get crits still, but because it was too low, it was for the best that he wasn't getting crit mana pots later on because that would actually cause his mana to drain faster
What's 1 - .9999 repeating forever? It's not close to zero. It is zero. You have zero % chance to actually do this run. So, is it the fastest possible? I'd argue no because it's not possible. Still lots of good information. Worth a watch

- "Preparing" in this case means practicing and tweaking the speedrunning route. - Random drops in this game are not truly random. They can be predicted and the system that detirmines what will drop can be manipulated by doing certain things. - I think the teleporting is done to manipulate rng. I'll be happy to elaborate on any of these points if you want. I hope this answers your questions!
@@RordamJ I don't think he is even doing the teleport manipulation tricks. He mentioned an applet at one point. I think he is just using a 3rd party program to tell the game what to drop from which boss/monster. Basically cheating. But since this is single-player and theory crafting, it's cool.
I asked in the other vid but no one answered, why no charms? I took a quick look through the charms prefixes and suffixes before level 20 there is a lot of really useful stuff. Even at level 1 you can get a poison prefix and suffix. Right away you can even see where it would help. That first boss group you fight with the javs, you could likely one shot all of them with a few double poison charms.
Once switched to nova its time to switch to grand charms that combine mana and faster run/walk. You can get those before level 20. Life + mana charms are available very early. +lightnings damage (both prefix and suffix) can also be pretty decent damage way before level 20.
Hit recovery is based on % damage of health so huge health potentially can keep you out of hit recovery while at the same time allow more tanking and less fighting. Not getting hit stunned and tanking instead of fighting are both faster.

I don't feel this run was a waste at all. The chances of this happening as a whole might as well be 0, but bits and pieces of this could happen in our runs. Having a maximum best case scenario gives us a better view of where our runs stand. Makes me sad that some people in chat can't see the value in this.

Does anyone know how long the segments are? By that I mean, how often does he save state (or whatever method is used) and rerun the segments? After every kill roughly? Drops seem to perfect to have longer segments.
Also, which parts of the run were modded for perfect RNG and how?

Why is receiving a critical when consuming a greater mana potion a negative? If I understood correctly - if you get hit by a critical while consuming a potion it value increases. So it would lead to you restoring your mana anyway. Or am I misunderstanding something?
if it restores your mana way too quickly, your mana orb will fill up to the max, and then you will stop regenerating mana. by keeping that value below the max, consistently, you can always regenerate mana. that is to say, if his max mana were way higher, it would be a good thing to get crits still, but because it was too low, it was for the best that he wasn't getting crit mana pots later on because that would actually cause his mana to drain faster
What's 1 - .9999 repeating forever? It's not close to zero. It is zero. You have zero % chance to actually do this run. So, is it the fastest possible? I'd argue no because it's not possible. Still lots of good information. Worth a watch

- How did he manipulate the dropped items? I see no shit items, only what he need (javelins, mana potions, scrolls...)

- "Preparing" in this case means practicing and tweaking the speedrunning route.
- Random drops in this game are not truly random. They can be predicted and the system that detirmines what will drop can be manipulated by doing certain things.
- I think the teleporting is done to manipulate rng.

@@RordamJ I don't think he is even doing the teleport manipulation tricks. He mentioned an applet at one point. I think he is just using a 3rd party program to tell the game what to drop from which boss/monster. Basically cheating. But since this is single-player and theory crafting, it's cool.
I asked in the other vid but no one answered, why no charms?
I took a quick look through the charms prefixes and suffixes before level 20 there is a lot of really useful stuff. Even at level 1 you can get a poison prefix and suffix.
Right away you can even see where it would help. That first boss group you fight with the javs, you could likely one shot all of them with a few double poison charms.
There are potentially more places to improve the run, this was just his attempt at it! Charms could be a great place to add more damage
Once switched to nova its time to switch to grand charms that combine mana and faster run/walk. You can get those before level 20.
Life + mana charms are available very early. +lightnings damage (both prefix and suffix) can also be pretty decent damage way before level 20.
Hit recovery is based on % damage of health so huge health potentially can keep you out of hit recovery while at the same time allow more tanking and less fighting. Not getting hit stunned and tanking instead of fighting are both faster.
