  • This man was an enormous Trump fan but that has changed. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, tell you what happened. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
Watch the whole video here: www.cnn.com/201...
“CNN’s Erin Burnett Out Front on Tuesday profiled a former Donald Trump supporter who attended 45 rallies during the campaign, but no longer supports the president or his agenda.
Kraig Moss shadowed Trump’s campaign rallies during the 2016 election to tell the story of his son, Rob Moss, who died on Jan. 16, 2014 from a heroin/fentanyl overdose at age 24. The grieving father was a staunch Trump supporter, and was encouraged to support then-candidate Trump by his promise to help addicts struggling with addiction. Trump even reached out to Moss personally at a rally, calling him “a great father,” and assuring him, “your son is proud of you.”
“I’m not on the Trump trail anymore, and I’ve lost my heart,” Moss told CNN’s Elizabeth Cohen in an interview, pointing to the president’s support of the American Health Care Act, which would drop an addiction treatment and mental health mandate that covers 1.3 million Americans. Moss told Cohen he believes Rob would still be alive if he had health insurance.
“I believed everything he said,” Moss said. “Now I don’t believe he was true in his word when he was speaking. I think he was looking for votes, to be honest with you.”
“It’s not at all what Mr. Trump promised everybody he was going to provide for us,” he added. “I feel that now-anger, I feel hurt inside.””*

No, many voted because they despised Hillary and I can't blame them. A man on TV once said:
"If he were running against Hillary, I would vote for Donald Duck"
The two party system has made people choose between a rock and a hard place.
And now when Republicans and Democrats argue they argue about Trump. And Republicans feel as if they must defend him, until it becomes a conditioned response.
The best way to break Trump's cult would be not to argue about him.

It pisses me off to see people say things like "serves him right". The man was obviously an emotional mess, and Trump talked about things that touched him personnally. Trump exploited his emotional state. When I look at the guy, I don't see a malevolent man; I see a man grieving for his dead son, and wishes no one else has to go through what he has. He was naive, but not evil.

it's funny how many people in the comment section blame the state of the country on lack of empathy and tribalism and then turn it around and say they don't feel sorry for these people who were obviously naive and exploited by a con man. That's so hypocritical.

    • @emlmm88
      @emlmm88 7 лет назад +6

I think the issue is that many of the people who were exploited by him, were also the same people spreading his hateful rhetoric and mocking the exploitation of others in our society who have been historically oppressed. I think it just goes to show that empathy is _always_ a reasonable tool to use, even on terrible people. It's a tool that can help us better understand the world and the problems of our age, even if we don't agree with the people who we're practicing empathy on. In general, these people _did_ demonstrate a significant lack of empathy during Trumps meteoric rise to popularity among the conservative base, and criticizing that on behalf of the people who were hurt by it is totally legitimate. In some ways, I don't feel sorry for a lot of them - many of them had the information and weren't raised in that kind of environment, but gave in to their prejudices/tribalist predispositions anyway, but because I can empathize with why they made that decision, I can better understand the political climate as a whole, even if I think their choice of vote was completely misguided (and in many cases, based largely on hatred rather than pure misinformation).
So I guess, to invoke one of my favorite John Green quotes, "Stupid truth, always resisting simplicity". Trump voters aren't just a block of people - there's nuance there. Some of them deserve sympathy, some of them don't. This guy's a member of the former.

Malachi Owens I think America is done. When its proven, and it will be, that Trump and his gang are traitors, there will be a lot of bluster but nothing will happen. Trump will not be impeached and he won't accept the results of the 2020 race if he loses. Bannon has been very outspoken about wanting to dismantle the American state. Fascism takes over America without a shot being fired. Remember, these cowboys talked enthusiastically about rounding up liberals and taking them to FEMA camps. Think about that before your natural inclination toward empathy for a man who lost his son clouds your judgement.

All that mistakes Ana said... South Koreans already went through them to elect Park Gun Hyae in 2012, exactly THE same reason that Americans elected Trump. Her promise was literally "Make South Korea Great Again" with economic democratization, reminding economic bloom in her father's (although it was JFK but many Korean people believed because of Park Jung Hee, anyway) era.
Result? Chain disasters (Sweol ferry, MERS..., ballpen nuclear power plant failure), stagflation, ever high youth unemployment/suicide rate, false accusation incident (유우성), cutting off worker rights... list goes on... and on...
So, they've stood up. Studied, learned, even though 99% of their media was nothing better than FOX. They've found independent media(i.e. 망치부인), and a few reasonable media outlet (JTBC, 손석희) that weren't completely corrupt.
In Apr. 2016, they sent more opposition party members to legislation branch. Yet, they didn't falter... kept protesting with candles... --> Impeachment at the end.
Americans, you have 2018. Don't waste it.

I agree with what you're saying; up and to a point but I care more about getting this country back on track then I care about rubbing it in that I was right. Save the smugness for later because right now we need people like this, we can't have it both ways. Its not easy for people to admit they were wrong. This poor guy was vulnerable and he was lied to. They were all lied to. They were systematically brain washed by people like Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, The Drudge Report, Breitbart, Fox News, The Blaze, etc. I've been slowly breaking my mom out of it but these people live in a bubble. A bubble where every one is white, Caucasian, christian, and conservative. Most of them don't even hear anything but these lies and they have been conditioned to take the truth as an insult, an attack upon them rather than a difference in opinion. They will recoil if liberals aren't receptive. We don't have to be best buddies with theses people and you are probably right, they do to some degree deserve this but we probably will need to use them to reach Republican officials and their fellow constituents. They are much more likely to listen to someone they consider to be on the same team, a peer.

      @ Steve Cramlington:
Secretary Clinton's ties to Wall Street are well publicized.
The accusations regarding "Benghazi" were proven republican tactics to undermine her candidacy at the expense of a tragic loss of our ambassador and his aides.
Although I was not a Clinton supporter, I believed that she was CLEARLY the lesser of two evils, and voted accordingly.
As for trustworthy, she's not perfect, but she's currently not the subject of an actual FBI investigation.

The reason I criticize a lot of the electorate (and this year especially Trump people) is that they are so cavalier about this awesome responsibility we all have. What is our electorate?
The cynics who simply don't get involved at all - shame on them.
The lazy who only show up every four years for the general election.
The lazy who do not bother to learn about anything. I would almost like to see one kind of poll test. If you cannot name a single policy of your candidate, and articulate how you think it will affect a change that you want, you don't get to vote.
The fanatics who control the primaries because the lazy don't vote in primaries. These are often one issue voters - abortion, taxes, immigration.
Anyone willing to engage their brain for two seconds would have known that Trump did not care about healthcare, because he could not articulate ANY ideas about how to fix it. He took no time studying it, which anyone who cared would do.

I agree with everything TYT said except 1 thing. I'm an older American Democrat voter (63 years old) & I get my news info from the internet & several news outlets that do not include TV news. I haven't watched TV news for a few years now. Do not count us out folks just because we're older. I for one don't trust half the things reported on TV news programs. That's why I fact check so much of the info out there. Wish others would do the same.

We all make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them.
That's why there is no hope for GOP voters.

'Mistakes'? Well, I'll tell you what my friend, it was a hell of a 'mistake' to make. He would never have thought it was a 'mistake' if this had affected only black people.

I am sorry to tell you but most americans didn't care about politics, they only want someone who tell them what they want to hear, it's the fault of inmigrants, obama or someone else, it is easy to blame other and Trump know it.
