I was on live chat playing apex with my buddy when this happend. He stopped and said "something big just exploded" (i could heae the boom on my mic) and he left. I thought he was joking but minutes later this started showing up where he lived and my heart sank to the floor. He was ok as he was like 10 miles away but still felt it. Il never forget that moment it hit same as 2001 hit me. People suck.

What we learned from this blast is if you want to make a great 'huge bomb' proof bunker is this. Use reinforced concrete tubes filled with grain. The grain in the concrete silos has destabilized the shock waves destructive force to enable the other side to be unaffected, or in layman's terms it's a grain buffer that's soaked up the energy. Thats whats most amazing but sadly totally neglected in the video. What's always more interesting is looking at what has survived, not what's been destroyed. If I was smart I would do a RUclips video about this.

Did a bit of searching and The IAEA team detected no increase in radiation since the blast. I mean I’m pretty sure there was nothing highly radioactive stored in a port.

I looked at Wikipedia's "Largest artificial non-nuclear explosions" list, which this explosion is of course included in. A concerning number of explosions on that list involve ammonium nitrate; even if you only look at the accidental ones. In fact there's a separate "List of ammonium nitrate disasters", which dates back to 1916. And there's a large number of explosives that can be made with it. This is incredibly dangerous stuff, and we've known that for over a century. We should be able to do better than this.

That substance was also used in the first world trade center attack last century. Had it succeeded then thsi would have taken down teh towers a long time ago. They only managed to fill a van full of it hoping it would do the job. It was not enough.

A modern nuclear bomb would literally demolish the entire city into ash and pebbles. The radioactive fallout would make the land inhabitable for hundreds of years.

"A modern nuclear bomb would literally demolish the entire city into ash and pebbles."
That depends on the yield of the weapon. There are some tactical nukes with surprisingly small yields that wouldn't do much more than this blast actually did.

@LosAngelesTimes Sorry, but I don’t think this is accurate. For MT/KT comparison - The biggest nuclear explosion was the Tsar Bomb detonated by Russia at 50MT of TNT or 50,000KT of TNT -The biggest bomb used on a population was “Fat Man” dropped on Nagasaki at between 16KT - 21KT of TNT. The biggest non-nuclear explosion was in 1917 in Halifax, Canada at 2.9KT of TNT. However, are we forgetting 1944 the RAF Fauld explosion in the United Kingdom equivalent to 2KT of TNT? Or in 1944 Port Chicago Disaster equivalent to 1.9KT of TNT. That being said, Beirut comes in 6th as the biggest non-nuclear explosion at conservative estimates of between 0.8KT of TNT - 1KT of TNT. Even if we wanted to use bigger estimates of 1.5KT of TNT it would still only rank 5th biggest. I’m sorry, but there were much more powerful explosions that occurred before Beirut.
