There was literally a point where I stopped reading to cry for a second because I always thought I was weird for doing the things he did and it just validated everything I've ever felt. End of year favourite videos are always my favourite! I also found myself feeling nostalgic when you mentioned how long you've been doing these. I'm usually a silent watcher but I've been watching since I found your Hereos of Olympus booktalks and now I'm 20! I was able to read a lot this year as I worked on a farm and could listen to audiobooks when I was working. I'd say my favourite this year were Haunting of Hill House which is very different from the show but I loved both. The show is more about family and trauma and grief and the book is more so about feminism and women's autonomy in the 50s. I didn't think dark stuff was my vibe but I'm reading Frankenstein and have The Diviners audiobook and I'm really liking them both so I might just have to check out Ninth House even though it's much darker than I usually go for. I'm so glad the sequel held up for you! Best of luck with you reading in 2024!

My favourite books this year were Ninth House (very excited to read Hellbent!), Daisy Jones and the Six, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faerie. I also read Love, Theoretically and absolutely adored it! It was so funny and being a science student made it funnier! I'm currently reading the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes which is SO good, it's probably going on my favs list as well. I'm so excited to read Fourth Wing after!! My favourites of the year were The Flatshare (cute London romcom where two people working the day/night shift share a flat), The Guest List (spooky thriller where a group attend a wedding and the dark history between them unfolds) and the new Percy Jackson (and the Chalice of the Gods), took me right back to my Percy phase. First off I cannot get over how GORGEOUS the Attached at the Hip cover is! I’m so excited to read it and with the Survivor aspect of it! I’m thrilled! I've enjoyed following you for almost a decade, Christine, but at this point, I'm really disappointed that this felt like a reiteration of the Goodreads choice awards where it was only books that already have a lot of hype and only promoted white authors. Would love to see more diversity in 2024!
So you're advocating for books to be promoted based on the colour of someones skin, and not because its actually a good story? That seems incredibly silly.
@@factcheckingyourmum it feels awfully silly to fail to recognize that there's some incredible stories from authors and choose books that are not actually unique and representative of how diverse our world is. There's such a massive world of incredible black fantasy, Latinx romance, Native American history and more that topped the best book list of many major publications last year. Why wouldn't books like that be represent in best books of the year wrap up? Feels silly to not expect that.
Absolutely nothing is wrong with someone having a preference. There are many RUclipsrs I follow who read books written exclusively by African descendant authors, Latino authors; and many who mix it up. You can watch those videos or make some of your own. People love book recommendations , I'm sure the videos would be appreciated.

I've enjoyed following you for almost a decade, Christine, but at this point, I'm really disappointed that this felt like a reiteration of the Goodreads choice awards where it was only books that already have a lot of hype and only promoted white authors. Would love to see more diversity in 2024!
So you're advocating for books to be promoted based on the colour of someones skin, and not because its actually a good story?

@@factcheckingyourmum it feels awfully silly to fail to recognize that there's some incredible stories from authors and choose books that are not actually unique and representative of how diverse our world is. There's such a massive world of incredible black fantasy, Latinx romance, Native American history and more that topped the best book list of many major publications last year. Why wouldn't books like that be represent in best books of the year wrap up? Feels silly to not expect that.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with someone having a preference. There are many RUclipsrs I follow who read books written exclusively by African descendant authors, Latino authors; and many who mix it up. You can watch those videos or make some of your own. People love book recommendations , I'm sure the videos would be appreciated.
