Hi Gary, first of all thank You for such good videos. Really great job You're doing out there. I've 2003 nissan maxima QX with RE4F04B transmission. I'm experiencing no "kickdown" issue. When I push hard the accelerate pedal it starts to accelerate but it doesn't reduce the gear. Could You explain to me how the "kickdown" feature works? What could be wrong? It happens really often but not always. Thank You in advance
Thanks, Gary. Tomorrow I will tear down a RE4FO3W just for learning. Not putting it back together. This tranny had very slow engagement into reverse, and a slight flare on the 2-3 upshift. I expect to find worn clutches but I want to be sure what I'm looking at. Your comment about the high drum was that it's both 3rd and 4th. Does the direct drum only house 1st and 2nd? I couldn't find the info anywhere. Thanks, D.
Good morning Gary , Thanks for this video ,I just overhauled a one of these from a Nissan X-trail 2002 with the planetary gear worn out .But after remounting on the car I have no 4th and reverse gear engagement can you please help me out . Thanks
Hey Garry....my RE4F30B is stuck in a high gear and giving PO734 code....just replace the transmission the previous one didn't go in reverse. Any ideas?
Hey got a late reverse sometimes, the car would drive great for 3 days, then one day if I put it in reverse the car would rev for 6 seconds then engage, then work for 2 more days and comes back(hot or cold) works great, it's really intermittent, I am think valve body, like a check ball sticking in the separator plate, I know seals dont heal and leak so if it's bad it would always happen. Or when cold or hot if it was the seal when cold it would of have a no reverse then when it warms up it would work, so I am looking at a valve body problem, any assistance would be great
Hi, first of all thanks for the detailed video. I use this transmission system in my Nissan Almera 1.8 2000 vehicle. There is a strange problem and can you help diagnose it? It's like this: When switching from 1st to 2nd gear, there is a situation like the car is holding and releasing something. What possibilities should this bring to mind?

I use Valvoline ATF as transmission oil. I did the oil change. Probably the filter installed by the factory is still in the transmission! Could it be related to the slow operation of one or both solenoid valves? I'm trying to figure out what is the source of the problem. Tranmission mechatronics? Deeper mechanical components? Transmission type? Is it CVT or ATF fluid type should be put.?

Direct rum is 3rd and 4th. There is a low clutch drum for 1st and a band for 2nd
what clutches are in the high drum?
The high drum has the 3rd clutch. That clutch comes on in 3rd and stays on for 4th
Wow; reverse frictions were worn, but there was absolutely NO friction material on any of the 3rd gear clutches. Metal-to-metal with the steels.
that's common, the inner seal shrinks when the trans gets hot and looses pressure, usually burns the clutch pack
