I grew up in Ohio and I can tell you it's not a small following. The Dept. of Ed, legislature and DeWine need to introduce legislation for standards and testing in home schooling. As a nation we need to keep this movement in check. It isn't just Ohio.

With Cartoon Network- you spot-on nailed it, I came to the states from Russia as a kid, and learned a lot of my English from those shows (and to this day love to laugh at Cartman or Big Mouth). As of awareness of current events of the time, I had some. Everything from the clusterfuck of post soviet Russia, to Clinton’s Lewinsky escapades, especially considering that most of the humor I love today is satire and parody. As an older person, what people don’t realize is these kids grow up. If they’re able to get out into World they will question wtf they grew up learning. My daughter married a Christian homeschooler. He had never seen a Disney movie. Didn’t know anything beyond Hitler was a great leader. He was a grown man seeing the world in 6 years olds eyes. He was questioning everything. We are non practicing Catholics. He’s a good person&hes close to his parents. Everything worked out but there were HUGE discussions about how their kids would be raised before she had them. You don't want America's children growing up and not knowing anything, not able to manage their affairs as they grow into adulthood. An appropriate curriculum is taught. Today, classrooms are growing as there are fewer teachers. Teachers/schools have to manage students AND teach. That means that teachers must manage LOTS of personal drama, plus learn and implement the ever-changing studies, in an attempt to keep up with district, state, and national academic standards. Nobody's got time to keep their jobs AND teach indoctrination and propaganda. An important point is your child is not your minime. Your responsible to deliver a child into adulthood who is healthy physically and mentally, educated enough to meet the demands of the workforce, and with enough integrity to stay mostly in the bounds of the law. It is not to mold a child to be and do everything you couldn't or wouldn't. You'll be dead and in your grave and someone somewhere will still be relying on your child to do their damn job -- as a parent, as a citizen, and economically. You have your child for 18 years, that child has to play well with others for the next 60+ years after that. If you think your chief job is to indoctrinate your children -- either in your religion, your political beliefs, or your biases I question your suitability as a parent. Teach a kid to (want to) learn and make their own decisions. You don't own them, your just their temporary caretakers (and yes I have kids of my own).

So the point of having children is to groom them for the workforce? Most of those jobs will soon be taken over by AI, automation and robotics. That's a very shallow purpose to living. To be a cog in the system.
It is the chief duty of a parent to teach (ie-raise) their own children properly... The original meaning for the word, "indoctrinate" was "to teach". If parents don't teach their own children, society and the public school system will do it for them. If parents are Christian, their top concern would be to save their child from the very pits of hell. This brief life is extremely brief and then after it is eternity. Not just the grave. Your soul lives on forever in one of two places.
Not all of us live believing that this life is merely a test, a junction for the next one. I'm not a christian, though I was one at one point -- but thats a different axe for a different stone. The question is how to live the good life in the way a philosopher means it. Its a terrible waste of a life to spend half of it in the prison of your parent's beliefs. If my kids when they are adults agree with me on 80+% of things, then I have failed them miserably. I mentioned the workforce, and yes that's a component of it, but really the point is to raise the adult that can live a satisfying life with our without you. The original purpose of the US education system was to teach people to read PRIMARILY so that they would be capable of reading the Bible for themselves. The ability to read was an empowering act for people fleeing religious persecution and they wouldn't have been concerned about any of the nonsense that has been tacked on since then.
You seem to be assuming a great deal. A good parent does not either neglect their child nor cripple them. A parent's job is to teach, train and strengthen a child so that they can leave the home and live successfully and safely WITHOUT their parents. An adult child should not be controlled or manipulated and dictated to about which career to have, who to marry or how to raise their own children, etc. At that point, the adult child is fully responsible for making their own decisions.
As someone that was sadly raised without the Lord and who went to public and private schools, I was "in a prison of those beliefs", as you put it. As a former non-believer I used to think that God and the Bible were complete fairy tales and that Christians were idiotic hypocrites... A lot of that was simply training from friends, family, society and "education." I began to search for the truth as an adult which led me straight to a genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I only wish that I had been homeschooled, protected from this wicked world and had been taught the Bible from a young age. It would have benefited me greatly and it wouldn't have taken me so long to come to a knowledge of the truth. But the good thing is now I have a genuine relationship with my Heavenly Father and that matters far more to me than any relationship with an earthly parent. So you are right, parents can be a boring backstory and that is especially true for a lost parent and their born again adult children. As a believer my true family is now other believers who I will be with for eternity. I pray that someday soon you will know the same joy and peace.

Our state laws require specific subjects to be taught and annual testing but they don't specify how or exactly what to teach. I don't think that you could write laws to ban this.
The core message of the thing being taught would be something which would get looked at first before ever even looking at banning such things. This was a purposefully deceitful representation of what happened. CNN gave absolutely no context to the exercise itself instead just quoting something somebody affiliated with the larger so called _'home schooling network'_ once wrote somewhere. This is bullshit reporting 101. Fake news in the making, as much as I hate the term...yet the hat fits 🤷🏻♂️
@@ivareskesner2019 It is quite difficult to have expertise in a wide variety of areas that journalists cover and one of the dangers of getting interviewed is that your viewpoints, perspectives and opinions get butchered. It is very hard to get a handle on homeschooling because there's an incredible amount of variety in how it is done.
Agreed. They regulate that children must be educated at least in some way. They can require that certain topics be taught like math, reading, writing. Those are very basic requirements to operate in our society. In many states they can't even force testing (it's optional). It's kind of the point of home schooling vs public/private (certified) schooling.
I think most states use "umbrella groups" and programs which you can use to manage your homeschooling requirements. Ie rather than showing what you did on your own you can say you are subscribed to Program X. There may be places where Program X goes outside of limitations on umbrella groups but that would most likely be in academics, not additional (nazi) teachings. I mean, could such prohibitions lead to religious homeschoolers not being allowed to teach their beliefs? I wholeheartedly disagree with those beliefs but, that's part of freedom. Being allowed to teach your children stupid crap that guarantees the rest of society will ostracize them and ensure your control over them (until you lose it) is on the parents. It's definitely hard/impossible to legislate against this.
Better to come up with and promote deprogramming info and widely disperse it. From reading some of the comments on this video, that definitely could help some people.

I'm an Ohioan who was home schooled. We had the good fortune of my mom owning her own business, and her kids being born nerds who were more than happy to spend all of our unsupervised time at the library. We'd set a syllabus in August, buy books in September, and whenever I finished the syllabus is when summer began. If I scored less than 85% on a project, I had to do it over. Soooooooo much volunteering and community theater. I basically feel like I started college in the 6th grade. There were like 3 other local families in the same boat as me. Entrepreneur parents with kids gullible enough to believe that doing research papers and going to spelling bees was a rockin time. But, the overwhelming majority of the other home school families we would interact with were doomsday Christians. Like literally believed the world would end before we'd turn old enough to drink. We were definitely too black and too catholic for them on many an occasion. This group up north probably has a teacher in their social network who is certified to sign off on their paperwork. They probably send tamer stuff to the state in their annual reports, or they happen to live a community that is accepting of white supremacy. If you enjoy having money at all, I urge you passionately to never have children. They are bottomless money pits you'll never be free of until the day you die. But if you already got em, and you have the means and temperament, I'd recommend home schooling. Keep church groups at a safe distance. The are lots of museums, libraries, and secular charities to get involved with. Set clear goals. But you will need both the means and the temperament. If you get cabin fever easily, aren't very self motivated, can't take you kids to work, or hang out with nazis, home schooling is not for you.

This whole idea of kids being home schooled is so strange to most parents outside the US. 3.1 million kids of school age are home schooled in US. In the UK (a country roughly 1/6th the size) that number is just 55,000. In Germany, only about 400 seriously at risk kids are home schooled. In Canada it is 60,000; Australia 20,000, and 17 European countries have none at all.
Most of Europe has embraced much of Hitlers ideology these days. Pretty much everything Hitler wanted, outside of putting Jews in concentration camps, is happening in the EU.
We won't be using the NAZI loving EU as an example.

I'm in my late 40's. Guess I'm just concerned about the billions of taxpayer dollars which will have to be spent building more warehouses (Prisons) for all the haters this curriculum produces. @@boataxe4605 It’s already being taught, I grew up in Texas and the schools whitewashed slavery and sugarcoated the battle of the Alamo. We’re taught that our predecessors were well mannered men and hid all the atrocities. Wasn’t until I got to highschool that a history teacher finally showed us the truth.

I would like examples of what you call indoctrination.
We were talking about homeschooling our daughter but I do feel like they have a harder chance later in life. An as I live in Ohio it’s really up to you to teach your kid the best you can and I’m not sure many parents have the ability to teach higher level math and writing like I received in school. As example my mom could have never taught me trigonometry or speech writing. I don’t use that as an adult but it was good to be challenged in school .
As a kid who wasn’t homeschooled let me tell you if you thought homeschooling took something away from you in life 😂 just keep searching cause high school wasn’t it
There are plenty of statistics that prove homeschool kids do better than public school kids.
Homeschool gets a bad rap from people who don't know how to do research before they open their mouth and spill out non sence, also gets bad rap from sick adults who use it as a reason to abuse their kids but , public school kids get abused to its not a homeschool thing it's a bad parent thing.
As someone who had experience with public and private school I would have LOVED to have been homeschooled. There is good homeschooling and bad homeschooling, but even bad homeschooling would have been an improvement on public school. I have no clue why people who had the great blessing of homeschooling parents actually think that they missed anything good in public school. It's trash and no, hanging out with peers isn't that exciting either. Everyone is just passing the time until they can escape!
