I'd recommend googling the woman in this video. Her name is Lynn Ruane. She went from living a life of drugs and poverty, to turning her life around, and becoming student union president of Trinity College Dublin. She now works in politics and has devoted much of her time to helping those in need. She is an inspirational woman.
@@123JWJWJW it's ride. It's not really explained fully in the clip but to ride someone is to have sex with them so they themselves are referred to as a ride. Where the subs struggle is with words like "shy" student, to an Irish ear she's saying "shite", "a-niner" she's actually saying "annoying her" and she's saying "manky" for dirty, not monkey!
He didn’t understand a word and she really went all out with that lesson, it was inevitable it would conclude with Conan saying he’d get her a pint to put up her arse 😂😂

As my Dad used to say to me after I'd had a bad date....."My boy, we're Irish....we may not be able to make the girls scream, but we sure can make 'em giggle." Miss you Pops.
Actual Irish actors in Hollywood have been asked to ham up their accent as that’s what Hollywood thinks Irish is. You know instantly what a real Irish accent is. She’s not hamming up anything that’s just how she talks. At times Conan got some of it right but the bit where he gets a little frustrated and sing songy. That’s Hollywood nonsense and non-irish people’s incorrect understanding of the accent. The other thing really is there are a lot of different accents spread over a very short area. She’s north side Dublin but southside is completely different. Also north and south Dublin accents were historically on the actual north and south side of the Liffey but that’s not the actual case any more. Conor McGregor has a Northside accent but he’s from Crumlin which is on the Southside. Now you could make an argument for the closer to the center you get the more Northside or inner city you get but they were always referred to as north and south side and typically it was regular vs posh.
I spent a summer in Ireland once, came home, tried out for an Irish character in a play, had it fairly close (northern)... and was told that my accent wasn't Irish enough. Lost out to a "hi dee tie dee tie" player... chagrinned was I! (Actually, rightly chaffed)
Ah brilliant, As someone from Cork watching but living out of the Country now 22 years I love funny things like this, We have the get people stopping with the Da da da da leprechaun accent 🤣👍🤣
This is a very specific Dublin, working class dialect and accent. There are quite a few accents in our capital but they can be put into three groups, this being one. There's also a sort of neutral accent, and then a posh "D4 version" (Dublin 4 postcode/zip - where the property is most expensive) also called the DART or "West Brit(ish)" accent if you want to be nasty (the DART rail serves mainly the affluent south side of the River Liffey). Colin Farrell veers slightly to that but is more neutral generally, for example. Ruane's expressions are a bit on the rough side, too for general conversation, but prettymuch on point I'd say. You hear them more among guys typically in a Dublin pub. Several of the terms used here are generally found only in Dublin and say Meath, and Wicklow (surrounding counties to our capital with a large influx of Dubs). "Ma" is more likely to be "mam" outside Dublin. It's never mum or mom! To call someone "a ride" (attractive) would be found all over, however.
Conans Irish accent sounds more like Newfoundland 😂 The town I'm from in Ireland had lots people emigrate to Newfoundland in the 1930s and the accent has been handed down ever since 😂
That was by far the best of the "Conan Must Go" episodes. The first three were OK, but seemed forced and awkward at times. He seems much more like himself (or the character he plays) here - unhinged and letting it fly.
Anyone know what cafe that is? I thought it might be the Salt Cellar given the outside shot is just next to it but I'm not actually sure the interior matches.
