I still feel like ive lost a big part of my life in losing Paul Dianno this week. I wished this upcoming documentary would have already been completed while Paul was with us. We miss you brother.
Yeah, they have some great ones. However, consider this: the "ballads/no ballads" thing may be an old Bay Area inside joke between them and Exodus (who once boasted they will be old men with like 38 albums out, but still no ballads).
I went to see Maiden in St. Paul the other night. I had been listening to the Hu for a while, but my crowd I went with never did. By the end of the show they were hooked, and were streaming the next day. So they were hooked on the new to them music after such a great live performance.
Devin Townsend never shied away from being all over the place creatively. (Almost every mood = a new band/project. And why not? ) Good for him still going wherever the process leads him - & hails from Metro Van.
Devin Townsend, Wow what a freak talent, aside from his guitar talents and unique soundscapes he delivers some of the greatest vocal performances I have ever seen, If you haven’t seen Kingdom on EMG special yet you must do it, there is nothing else like it
If you look at Metallica's first demos from 1981 to 1984 you'll see how Paul Di'anno influenced Metallica. Paul's Maiden and Motorhead and also Diamon Head were the fundament of Metallica. Also Metallica made a cover of Remember Tomorrow . RIP the original Iron Maiden
- Do I like ballads in metal? Man... it is the same answer as in any genre: it ALWAYS depends on how good (or not!) the song is. - As for Randy Rhoads, he is one of the rare guitar heroes that nobody dares to change his guitar solos. And that 's for a reason!
I am currently listening to Queen I by Queen and a couple of audiobooks. I mention Queen I because I am obviously a fan of the band and I love the first 7 albums. I also enjoy the 2024 mixes of all of the songs and the goodies which had come with it, similarly to Rocka Rolla and its updated remix and remaster. I mention it also because there is more to the album than just the 10 songs, as the new deluxe version has 5 demos they had recorded at another studio, before signing a record deal and one of the songs reminds me of Black Sabbath and how, when the solo comes around, the bass and drums just plod along and eventually, we go back to finishing off the song. The track Jesus in demo form and live have this addition. Either way, I like the album in all of its forms including the 1973 original and 2011 remaster. What sucks about this is that Paul Di’Anno was also a Queen fan and he wasn't able to hang on long enough to hear the 2024 remix of Queen I. Of course, Brian May has also played with Bruce Bruce Dickinson too, but I wonder if Bruce is the only singer of Maiden who has played with one or more members of Queen over the years. The other two things I am refering to are a couple of audiobooks with one by Alex Van Halen called Brothers. The other is by Elliot Mintz, who was a friend of John Lennon and is a friend of Yoko. I mention this only because if we didn't have The Beatles we probably wouldn't of even had Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and all of the early metal bands which came as the genre was developing. I also discovered how song ideas can be documented, thanks to this man hosting a radio show called The Lost Lennon Tapes and hearing home demos of John Lennon inspired me to write songs when I was in my teens and try, to get into music. I know that John Lennon is by no means metal, but he was taken from us way too soon in 1980, while I was 7. Sorry for the long reply, but I couldn't be brief. After all, I do maintain a blog or more and one on Queen, done respectfully.
I hope Maiden focuses less on Paul´s two albums next year, and starts with the songs from the third album (The number....) and forward. You can listen to Bruce auditioning to the old songs. It will never be the same.
I bet it's awesome and I can't wait. I love Testament and Floor. (Not so keen on new Nightwish, but it's not Floor's fault. She just sings what Thoumas writes. But she is capable of singing serious metal). And Testament as a band just keep better and better. All their last albums have been masterpieces.
Ballads, if done right, can be absolutely amazing! Think "Beyond The Realms of Death," "Fade to Black," "One," and "Trust." As far as thrash metal is concerned, I have a love-hate relationship with thrash. I love classic Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, and even some Overkill. But a lot of other thrash metal bands are just blast furnace noise to me.
I preferred Liquid Tension Experiment to Dream Theatre. As to new music, I bought a new guitar on EBay not long ago and I have not so much been listening to new music as playing my own. It's an absolute beast.
So I love Dream Theater, but you can't really call it a reunion without Kevin on keys. I'm glad Portnoy is back, but I still miss him on keys (although I know there was a lot more to it than just his playing). Sad to hear that Ozzy won't be able to perform anymore. I've been expecting it for a while, ecstatic he FINALLY got his place in the HOF though! And I definitely agree, he didn't have the greatest voice, but he did have a very distinctive voice that made his music what it was. No one else could've done "Mr Crowley" nearly as well as he did!!
Ballads on metal albums - any metal, any band/album - is a nice change from "the norm". A metal band that releases album after album with nary a ballad to be found, is no different from all these Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift pop tarts doing song after song about heartbreaks and their poor taste in men, or Celine Dion doing song after song about love, love, love, some more love, and love - it is MONOTONOUS. Ballads on metal albums offer a respite and shows the bands' range and divers--- wait, let's NOT use _that_ word (we're all sick of hearing it)... but you know.
Body count and Ice T working with David Gilmour on their version of comfortably numb, excellent and unexpected. Considering how DG and NM did the Rise up song to benefit Ukraine, I think it bears worth mentioning on the show. I bet Ice T would do an interview with you, have you reached out to him?
Is great that Wolfgang Van Halen is doing something from Randy Rhodes, as there was a rivalry from Eddie Van Halen toward Randy, which I believe was misunderstood as Randy only wanted to learn and share his knowledge. So sad they never got to play together on stage because of the misunderstanding, now that would have been a show and half.
@@vorpalblades Eddie believed there was a rivalry when there was none, because he didn't understand Randy Rhodes. Just a different mindset, so unfortunate, would have been awesome to see them both on stage together.
Come on Metal heads support each other so hit that subscribe! Sad about Ozzy wish him well but is there anyone who's not surprised he's lived this long given his past. I hope Maiden can do something like a hologram of Paul singing for their live shows. Testament and Jansen colab I'm there! Now at 60 this Metal Head Elder loves ballads! Just listen to Savatage \m/!
Ozzy is almost 76 years old. There are not many 76 year old who could go up on stage a sing on a tour. People like Stevel Tyler and Mick Jagger are physical anomalies.
Make it into the mainstream??? after 40 years you think they give a darn about the mainstream. And yes Testament along with Overkill are the two best thrash bands ever.
Instead of being nice to Wolfgang, try being honest! He butchered up Crazy Train from start to finish! He missed notes during the verse! His change up during the solo was slow to the point he reminded me of a novice playing! Jack Black is an a$$ kisser! Try going back & listen to how he praised RJD as the greatest! Then inducting Ozzy he refers to Ozzy the same exact way he did RJD! So no, Jack Black doesn’t deserve respect! As for the performance for Ozzy’s induction, Ozzy could have sand the extremely short set sitting down & his band could have played instead of a makeshift band!
I like ballads from metal bands if they are actually metal. Helloween has good metal ballads. Many ballads made by metal bands are just soft rock songs made so band can get on radio or MTV. Obviously, there are exceptions - Nothing Else Matters is a great ballad by a metal band. Wasting Love by Maiden is good. But especially ones from power metal bands tend to be very "meh". Not anyway heavier that anything by Aerosmith or Guns and Roses or Scorpions but of lower quality.
I took Unearth on their First Mini Tour of the NE US in 1999. Why the fuck did Ken Suzi leave Unearth to work for Fishman, then join the attempted murderer band?????
I think ballads are one of those things rock and metal bands struggle with. Until it Sleeps is the only Metallica Song I like, Def Leppard write musically great ballads although I generally prefer their harder rocking numbers. Beth is KISS' biggest hit. I think they act as a palette cleanse. Also -shock horror, newsflash some bands have girlfriends and ballads tend to be more inclusive and express where they are with their love life, life and music and art in general is supposed to be shock horror, newsflash self expression. Is it more commercial, maybe but would you rather they expressed it in the metal genre of Shreeps, Vanilla Ice style mumble rap. Yikes.
clive burr cliff burton randy roads eddie van halen malcolm young lemmy phil from thin lizzy jimmi hendrix paul dianno jeff hanneman neil peart all dead.
It only refers to the first 4 thrash bands signed to a major label. It's not the Best 4. Why can't people comprehend that? Anyway, they should replace Megadeth, they fuckin' suck balls.
Get over yourself. Your the only one bitching about it being insulting. He passed the fuck away. One day someone will use the phrase to describe you dying as well. You gonna jump up from the grave and tell them that they are wrong, too? 🤣Too be fair, it's up to what Paul's beliefs were to respect whether he just died or passed...but I guess you are the authority on the matter lol. I'm DEAD tired and I'm gonna go PASS out even though I'm still technically inside. Don't be hurt, my dude.
I don't mind ballads but it does seem like they were created to make the band more mainstream add to anyone reading this if you are not subscribed Please Subscribe now❤❤❤

I still feel like ive lost a big part of my life in losing Paul Dianno this week. I wished this upcoming documentary would have already been completed while Paul was with us. We miss you brother.
I fill the same way. I'll be home can you imagine losing the whole band
Paul was great! Rip
I'll never hear Remember Tomorrow the same way again. The song was my first favorite "slow song." It means a lot more now.
Same here. That's my favourite Iron Maiden song with Paul.
*Testament ballads are first rate. So I am all for it!!!*
As a Nightwish fan - so am I! 🤘 🔥
Yeah, they have some great ones.
However, consider this: the "ballads/no ballads" thing may be an old Bay Area inside joke between them and Exodus (who once boasted they will be old men with like 38 albums out, but still no ballads).
Testament is fucking amazing and it’s a crime they don’t get the attention they deserve
I went to see Maiden in St. Paul the other night. I had been listening to the Hu for a while, but my crowd I went with never did. By the end of the show they were hooked, and were streaming the next day. So they were hooked on the new to them music after such a great live performance.
Same but Bruce kept calling us Minneapolis boo
The Hu was excellent! Iron Maiden never ceases to amaze me! Over the top!!!
Hell yeah Testament has been 1 of my favorite bands since the beginning. They deserve more recognition. Slava Ukraini from the States
I love Alex Scolnick. His jazz material with PAKT is as good as his metal material with Testament.
we had the honor of having Paul sing on our song Metal Strike
I think that ballads are necessary in any Rock or Metal album. They are the balance between darkness and light.
Agreed
No, they aren't.
Devin Townsend never shied away from being all over the place creatively. (Almost every mood = a new band/project. And why not? ) Good for him still going wherever the process leads him - & hails from Metro Van.
Still waiting for a rap album! :D
You should definitely check out changing tides from the Netherlands!!
Well fuck, this is my first hearing about Paul. That's heavy shit. Guess I gotta jam the Di'Anno albums today. Rest easy, you legend. \m/
Dianno’s version of running free is the best!!!🤘🏻
Devin Townsend, Wow what a freak talent, aside from his guitar talents and unique soundscapes he delivers some of the greatest vocal performances I have ever seen, If you haven’t seen Kingdom on EMG special yet you must do it, there is nothing else like it
Go see him live. It’s even better!
He's a crazy good guitarist it's a head scratcher why he's not more well known for sure !!
Yes, Orzy Orzaburn.
Dont forget Saxon influence - listen to the Main Riff of "The eagle has landed and "Fade to black" and you know what I mean. A
Ballads are fine. Having a variety of textures and dynamics are never a bad thing. If you don't like the track, you can always ⏭️.
Liked „The Ballad“ on Testament‘s Practice what you preach-Album a lot. More than 30 ys ago. I’m getting old…
And I adore Floor, so Great News,🤘
Interview with Hevy Devy? Ok, you earned that subscribe lol 🤘🤘
Also, Paul felt a lot like DIO dying, but my first love and biggest vocal influences were Maiden. Feels like I lost someone closer than my dad...
Nothing wrong with a good metal ballad at all. Sometimes I like the change of pace.
Can't wait for that new Testament album.
What I'm listening now?
Armored saint, yngwie mamlsteen, fantom 2, Van gog, aqua vita, formula body and boom box
Love Testament! I believe they did have a song called the Ballad,I have no problems when thrash metal bands play ballads
Ballads makes a pause in a busy album and a contrast to the other tracks. so its all good
When done with creativity, ballads are great!
- Do I like ballads in metal? Man... it is the same answer as in any genre: it ALWAYS depends on how good (or not!) the song is.

Come on people, SUBSCRIBE (so easy to do and totally harmless). I am thoroughly entertained and informed by this guy's efforts and passions.
Ozzy has a super-high chest voice.

My neighbor has a bulldog named Ozzy... our dog is named Dio... I can't figure out why they don't quite get along...
Hey! Even evil people need love! Lol Ballads are a part of metal!
Congrats for Ozzy again!!!!! But the RNRHOF is a Freaking Joke now!!!!!:/
Metal "Ballads" are the best "Ballads" Fuk'n ever....
Where can I get those sunglasses??

I took Unearth on their First Mini Tour of the NE US in 1999. Why the fuck did Ken Suzi leave Unearth to work for Fishman, then join the attempted murderer band?????
what's a ballad?
Ozzy is a legend.
Great Video again! Hey Check out Italian Melodic Power Progressive Metal band DGM new album Endless..been listening all week and its fantastic!
Randy was Ozzy's Sacrifice.

Testament should have been in the Big Four, not Slayer. Slayer is only famous from their image, their music is comparatively mediocre.
It only refers to the first 4 thrash bands signed to a major label.
It's not the Best 4.

Paul DIED. He didn't "pass" anywhere. Enough with these insulting, dishonest euphemisms, please. 😢
He unalived. Enter Newspeak.
