  • In the language of our Navajo People… there is no word for “sorry”.
    But there is a strong teaching about forgiveness.
    Navajo Historian, Wally Brown, teaches about the need to forgive. And how it can lead to suffering if people don’t forgive.
    Forgiveness of family is the most important and eventually forgiveness to all is required.
    To not forgive is something that offends or grieves the Holy People.

      Indeed. Years ago I dislocated my elbow in a soccer game, from a dirty rubgy style tackle by an opponent. Dr's set it and I went off to rehab. Years later it was basically fine but still bugged me every once in a while. And when it did that whole event would come flooding back, and I would picture the random dude who hurt me, and wish I saw him on street for payback.
      I would get so worked up and angry. One day I had a vision of all that anger I had toward him was trapped in my elbow. And I realized that I was the only one who hasn't moved on from that event. After working on forgiving and letting go for a bit when it came up, my elbow is back to 100%

I went on a 4 week walkabout and healed and he stayed angry all though the fall, ignoring his anger, all the way back home to the Philippines. One has to be open to coming back when there is still time because doors do close. Its like that here now. Preserve your peace.

      There's forgiveness and there's letting go of anger. If the perpetrator isn't remorseful, then forgiveness is dangerous. The perpetrator will repeat the offense. But, letting go of anger, doesn't mean that one trusts.

    • @simtaur714
      @simtaur714 Год назад +6

      @@ellanina801 @Ancel forgiveness doesn't mean accepting unacceptable behavior. It does mean letting go of feelings of resentment and revenge, but you can still take measures to protect yourself from a repeat offense, while still forgiving them (letting go of resentment and revenge). Forgiveness happens in your heart, mind, and spirit; while preventative and corrective measures happen in the flesh and material realm.

    • @ellanina801
      @ellanina801 Год назад +4

      @@simtaur714 Forgiving would be harm in some instances. To forgive also means to relieve someone of their debts, but the person must be worthy of that forgiveness. P€dophilia and r@pe definitely are things that should be accounted for, as they are theft of something of great value. And being punished for being a victim and/or being punished for standing up to abuse are things that do not elicit the need for forgiveness-that is also theft of something of great value. Removal of children from loving parents is also a debt that should not just be forgiven-especially, when those children are placed in the hands of abusers. I do not seek revenge, but I will forgive the debt when the karmic balance is settled. I am peaceful in my pursuits, but I have a fire burning in my heart.
      There is a gross imbalance in the world, and too much forgiveness is actually quite toxic. Too much forgiveness is like a beetle that eats the tree and weakens her. If she succumbs to the beetles, then she is is vulnerable to other diseases. When she is strong, she allows the fire to burn, the beetles and all of the other diseases die. The fire returns nutrients to the soil and when the rain comes, they feed her. When this happens, the tree may actually survive. Her seedlings may grow, but they are less likely to survive when the big trees don’t survive and protect them. Seriously, look: anytime there is a forest fire, many trees do survive. Obviously, the fire must also be kept in check or the opposite is also true (so too much of the unforgiving fire is bad). It’s a balance.
      When a victim forgives their abusers, they are more likely recede into the same and to be re-victimized. When victims and society forgives the abusers, those abusers will definitely continue abusing. It allows the cycle to repeat. Just look at the statistics (1 in 4 children are SA’d; 1 in 4 women; that rate is higher if you’re Black, Indigenous, or LGBQTIA). The numbers are going up, so forgiveness isn’t working.
      If I were to forgive the debt that is owed to me, and if all others like me were to all forgive those debts, then the disease is going to continue to spread. “Forgiveness” is something that is the best friend of abusers until balance is regained.
      You cannot stand up to fight injustices without some fire burning, nor without some sense of pursuit of justice. A grey rock will always be just that, and nothing gets done.
      You do not have to agree, I do not expect you to. I have more peace in my soul allowing my fire to return nourishment to my roots, and so that I will remain strong for the seedlings so that they will hopefully grow strong and resilient. If I simply forgive all that is done, all those who have died will have died in vain. If I simply forgave, well, I would t be working to break the abuse cycle.
      ✌️ 💜 🟰

    This is very important, and it gets forgotten everywhere. I know that in my religion we put lots of focus on kindness and forgiveness and many people will say that forgiveness is to not acknowledge the bad things that a person has done and that if someone did something bad they shouldn’t have to forgive and move on. But eventually you will have to, because it can cause you so much pain and misery. To forgive doesn’t mean to excuse someone’s actions, it just means to let yourself keep going without a burden of bad energy looming over your shoulders.

    I agree 100%. What I have learned in my life is that forgiveness is the one act that can free both parties in any disagreement. It is a burden being lifted off of one persons soul and also off of the other persons shoulders. To not forgive his to leave the burden upon both parties and that in itself is almost unforgivable. Yet, The holy people and our maker have made a way for us to be forgiven So we should also forgive because that is part of the way. That’s what I’ve learned. It isn’t always easy to forgive but it is worth it.

    I was just down thinking about my family and their ways which aren't mine and how absent some were, and on these our high holy days of our tribe remembering the bad things this day as tomorrow is our highest holy day - I am seeing this video that brought me out of that low place I was in - and for this I thank you for the mitzvah. You speak of high things, and to my people it is said one should speak in such a way when you get together - I consider this together from far away, as together as we can be as we do not know each other, ''but we all know each other, you know''.
    YOU PULLED ME OUT OF THAT LOW PLACE, WHAT A GIFT THIS DAY

    Very nice and a way to be at peace and stay balanced. If you let something fester inside for too long or too great. It will consume you in a very damaging way. I love this forethought in the video

    In Time . This teaching is most necessary . Reading the comments means reading different grades and forms of understandings . It reveals the urgent and profound necessity of passing on thoughts about Forgiveness and Thankfulness .
    Too, some effects of wrong gone „western“ education are revealing . It depicted how lost souls desperately seek for being taught about deeper values - how to understand understandings . Under standing . Humbleness . It seems to to be severely hard in some situations to sort oneself‘s self out and away fromof single-minded thinking. Communicating community . Communicating in community . A very severe lack of understandings .
    Thank you for your Teachings 🪶

    This is primal. Sometimes anger is necessary, but I find it best to use it quickly and then let go as soon as possible, like handling a hot potato. I respectfully challenge your use of the word to "forget" because it's important to remember so that we can learn, but I've found letting go to be nothing less than existential.
    When I've really done somebody wrong, I would rather demonstrate that I'm "sorry" instead of saying it by changing -- becoming a person who won't commit that offense again. That's a lot harder, but it's meaningful.

    Offense came be taken, never given. Being offended is a response, not an act.

    Thank u for that. It felt like u, were talking directly to me. I have difficulty with forgiveness. And when I forgive someone, whenever I would see that person; I wonder if I meant it, when I said "I forgive u," bc when I look a the person, my mind plays on what was done to me. And although I can be civil towards that person, I cannot forget.
    For me, forgiveness is a process. And yes, it is very hard to forgive someone, who has committed an egregious act towards me.
    My mother when she was alive told me; that when u forgive ur not doing it for the other person, ur doing it to free urself of the burden of resentment.

    Universe, one verse, whole and giving. The world gave to us before we stepped foot here, a giving beforehand, a kind of forgiveness in itself. Thank you for this, truly.

      I prefer the word compassion. Yes it is good to ask to be forgiven if you have hurt another or vice versa on top of forgiving yourself for stumbling.
      If we are mistreated by another to hold compassion releases you from carrying it with you. If within our means we can remove ourselves from abusive situations but if we do not hold compassion we take the hurt, judgements, resentment along with us. Those that wound are not living a good life. Their spirit is distraught and they are lost and suffer due to their mental and emotional state. We can move on and free ourselves from that burden though holding compassion.
