Every 3D Sonic Game Ranked from Worst to Best

- What started as an experiment for... whatever it was turned into 8 months of work but it's finally here. All 15 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games (so far) ordered from worst to best in my personnel opinion. I sense controversy.
Since this is the first time I've done something like this I know some of my editing is pretty bad, the emblems are just text over an image and my points are rather simple and repetitive. For that I'm very sorry. If I ever try something like this again I'll try to do better.
I like Unleashed because it's the last time they actually cared about the story.

Games like Generations may be more polished but they feel... I dunno, soulless? I finished it, enjoyed it but it was an empty experience without a good story to tie it all together.

and I've seen critics complain about it because "sonic games shouldn't try to have stories to begin with, or if it has, it should be minimal".they seem to like the games with simple stories like colors a lot more

Which is debatable the game was slow boring and had a lot of button mashing each section with the werewolf lasted 20 minutes which goes against what sonic is in the first place.

Am glad Secret Rings was #15 because if it wasint for Secret Rings the group making the group making 06 to split up to make it. Its Secret Rings fault as well as Nintendo fault is why Sonic 06 was bad.

I personally feel that Sonic and the Black Knight is a criminally underrated game. It had a lot of interesting new ideas, an enjoyable story, a great soundtrack, and genuinely fun gameplay once you get used to the motion controls. While the game definitely has its flaws, I think that with a bit of refinement it can be one of the best sonic games out there

I'm so glad and happy that Sonic 06,Sonic Unleashed,and Sonic Generations gets alot of love and attention on this ranked list since those are my top 3 favorite Sonic games of the franchise and I hope and pray that there's a Remastered version of them as well as the Adventure games and Heroes,hell a Shadow the Hedgehog remake wouldn't hurd if it's done right.

The thing is Sonic 06 would be good if there was more time put into it. It had great levels, great music, Shadow and Silver's plotlines are by far two of the best in the entire series. If the map collision actually was good and sonic's story was not just "save elise, now save elise again" you would have an extremely well received sonic game.

Finally someone does it.
Colors is blamed for "RUINING" Sonic when it only gave him a refreshing start. A final boss that isn’t a worldly demon or monster. Eggman is the final boss fight for the first time in 16 years. How many people missed that? Super Sonic is unlockable AFTER the story, meaning no more "super zooming" your way through the boss. This also gave Sonic a more kid friendly tone while also keeping that radical character but with a different voice for new fans to enjoy. Hate me all you want. If you don’t like it, then don’t like. Don’t force someone to listen to you on YOUR OPINIONS.
Thank you. Plenty of people try to use “objective facts” to make people enjoy something less. Even if it’s objective, you don’t need to shove it down peoples throat.
I’m going to explain why most people blame colors for ruining Sonic. The game was marketed as the next 3D Sonic game that will use the day stages from unleashed but in reality it was a mostly 2d game with a few janky 3D sections forced in. In terms of story the problem is not that it had a lighter tone. The problem is the unfunny jokes and flanderization of Sonic and tails. Sonic just stands around saying unfunny jokes while Tails just stands around saying generic “smart” lines. There are ways to make stories geared towards kids without making them cringy to teens and adults. Heroes had a light story but it is loved by fans because the characters were still in character. The premise of Eggman building a corrupted amusement park in space had a lot of potential but it was wasted. If you like colors thats fine. I’m just trying to explain why others don’t like it.
@@gamingandstuff1522 yeah heroes proves that you don't to flanderized the characters to have a lighthearted story if this comedic tone was just in colors that would be fine but it kept going and just kept getting worse and now people are blaming colors because that's the game that started it
The only reason Sonic Colors is “blamed” is just because of the story and some of the platforming segments in 2D. To me, that is not a valid reason as to how it ruined Sonic. Colors is a breath of fresh air of going back to its roots. In terms of story, not the best, but not as bad as people make it out to be. I’m looking at you J’s Reviews.
It’s not really colors itself, but the fact they didn’t learn anything from it. For a new start it makes sense to be simple and take little risks and it paid off really well and made for a fun game, but then they decided to completely change the formula in Lost World and keep the wisps (honestly I like lost world but I see why many don’t), and then forces is just gross

Dang I actually agree with most of this list and that doesn’t happen often in the Sonic community, although I would put Secret Rings above Lost World 3DS since Sonic can gain upgrades in Secret Rings and the game becomes a little more playable

From what I’ve seen people are less fond of Colors through Forces these days mostly for the story and characters missing the mark and feeling insincere. Forces worst crime is that it’s a boring game that wastes its core premise.
And I think that’s why I love the games prior to the 2010s just a bit more. They’re very sincere and earnest about themselves and always had this sense vision for what they wanted to accomplish. For better or worse they always stuck to what they believed in.
For a fact, this video makes me feel sad, its the best ranking i ever seen in my life, Sonic 06 not the worst, Sonic Colors is not the best 3d sonic game, sonic unleashed is the best and ignoring the werehog, everything is amazing in this ranking, sadly no respect for this video, low views, subcribers and likes but at least you made a hardcore sonic fan not feeling lonely anymore😂💜

@@YetAnotherLetsPlayer I also didn’t get that the voice acting is bad the only one I’d say is bad is tails... sonic shadow eggman are the stand out actors here imo especially shadow and sonic says one of the best lines in the series imo: I’m just a guy who loves adventure when shadow is confused on how sonic escaped... its a good line to show who sonic rlly is as a person and that he isn’t overly arrogant like in the new games
I think the sa2 voice acting writing and cutscenes are all terrible. the mech stages are really boring and some of the treasure hunting stages last way too long, but hey thats just me

The original 2 sonic adventures will always be my favorite 3d sonic games from pure nostalgia alone. I played sonic adventure 2 way to much and it affected dreams ever since. Kinda wish they were remade with better controls.

Unleashed needs a sequel. That's the best sonic game
While I do agree that it is the best sonic game, I don’t think a sequel would even be necessary considering the story concluded itself in the final cutscenes, there really just is nowhere to go after unleashed’s story, in a way it feels as if they wanted unleashed to be the last sonic game and tbh I would have preferred it be that way, not to mention if they were to make an unleashed 2 then it wouldn’t have the same voice cast, the same gameplay/level design, the same writers and so many more changes that would ruin it so i think it’s just for the better that there was no sequel

This is just my opinion.
A lot of the glitches in sonic adventure dx aren't a thing in the original sonic adventure
3D isn't the issue. It has everything to do with aimless, down right chaotic and flimsy direction Sonic Team and Sega have taken the series starting with the Dreamcast.
Like look at Mario. Nintendo nailed it. They carefully thought about the game and how it plays. They didn't even think to redesign characters for this.
Look at Sonic. Right from the get go Sega wanted to redesign Sonic and everything. It was as if they were more concerned about marketing than actually making a game. And boy does it show.

I personally would put Sonic 06 around Number 5 or 4, since its one of my favorite Sonic games and i have no fear on saying it xD. Anyway this is such an awesome video that deserves more views especially from those Sonic fans who don't know quite what to consider better in the franchise, since the critics are just a freaking mess.

I mostly agree with this list especially your ranking of 06. But i prefer the 3ds lost world over the wii u version. I mean the special stages are trash, but the rest of the game is better in my opinion.

I noticed how a lot of people consider their first sonic games to be the better ones and I would say that applies to me too because imho generations > unleashed (although I play on pc and have access to mods so I am somewhat biased)
All and all, I do disagree with some points, but it's very nice to hear someone not bashing games just because they are different for once
I feel like they could’ve just ignored the Wii’s motion controls, or was it mandatory that they use them lol?
A good way to beat Eggman land without issues would be to S rank every single daytime stage since the werehog parts aren't really that hard, at least that's my current strategy

@Holden The Gamer 06 had plot, good characterization, extras to keep you on board for at least a year of playtime, and it has a nostalgia factor that I just simply don't get from Generations. I don't think 06 is objectively a better game than Generations, but I like it wayy more than Generations, which is why I put it at number 7, and why I made this list in the first place.
had a fat smile on my face when you put sa2 at #7 its the most overrated sonic game imo literally 1/6 of the game is actually sonic gameplay like wtf
But Sonic Forces was making something like...1,5 year (less then 2 but more then 1). In those over 2 years Sega was making "The Hedgehog Engine 2" (that engine can work on several consols, not only one like the first one) and something else but I don't remember what. Also in ending subtitles you can see that level desings was made by 3 people.... Which explains a lot.
Honestly I prefer Generations over Colours (or Colors).

YES!! Unleashed is awesome! Also Sonic Unleashed got a remaster on XBOX ONE X. We probably not gonna get Unleashed on PC (I want that sooo much) because "The Hedgehog Engine wasn't programed on PC.... I think.
Plus forces is poorly made with a storyline and characteristics that doesn’t make any sense. And ruined everything on the final boss fight.
The fact sonic 06 is at 11 goes to show just how terrible some sonic games really are
The reason people think forces is worse than 06, is because it is boring. The worst thing a game can be is boring. At least 06 is somewhat enjoyable (even if it is enjoyable for the wrong reasons.) I personally dropped forces I was that bored.
Just something about the PS3 versions of the Adventure games. The PS3 version is actually a port of the GameCube version of the Adventure games, which themselves are bad ports of the Dreamcast versions.

PS3/360 are the worst when it comes to it
the dc version is arguably the definitive version of sa1, but pc + dreamcast conversion is just ascended
So I'm guessing ur a fan of P-06, and I like 06 as well , and the GameCube port of SA1 is so glitchy, thats why I use a Dreamcast emulator, and I prefer SA2 , its better in my opinion, sonic adventure is only glitchy on the GameCube port
The multiple endings of Shadow could be comparable to the 3 endings of the Spongebob episode Shang Hai. However I think because one ending is the only one that makes an appearance on TV that ending is the canon ending.

I think it’s a little wrong saying sonic 06 is the best worst sonic game, and it’s kind of an insult to call it the 3rd sonic adventure game. The adventure games had good intriguing stories and 06 has fire, disgusting princess, kissing and that god forsaken silver boss fight. I’d say it is not as good as you insist it is but you be you, in the end I really don’t care that you enjoy it, everyone’s different
Sonic 06 is a mechanically broken game but its ideas and music are definitely great a shame it was rushed

Actually play 06 instead of watching sonic run with some occasional parts where you control sonic. Plus the story is better than forces. And, depending on who you're talking to, they might like the glitchness of Sonic 06.

Wow you're the first person on RUclips that i've seen that has similar opinions as mine !! 😂 Unleashed and Heroes are my favorite in terms of 3d sonic , the only thing that i would change in this list is to rank Unleashed ps2 a little lower since i think the level design could be much better and the Werehog is too bland .

My ranking/list of the notable 3d ones... (best to worst)
1. Generations: somehow modern was better than classic, it still surprises me
2. Adventure 2: best sonic stages in the 3d series and the other characters are fun in their own way
3. Heroes: i hate some stages with a passion but overall just a solid game
4. Lost World: way too gimmicky, at the same time lots of memorable set pieces and fun levels
5. Unleashed: the day gameplay can be very good but the werehog is not fun and the majority of the game
6. Colors: boring, then again solid enough just to be worth playing
7. Adventure: the gameplay is very unfocused, i see a lot of potential in a remake but lots of big changes need to be made
8. 3d blast (if it counts lol): boring, bad control, terrible concept, good music lol
9. Forces: they sold this game on shelves!
10. Sonic '06: once again, they sold this game on store shelves!!! for money!!!
I COMPLETELY agree with your viewpoint on Sonic 06. The game is relatively special to me despite the issues it has.
I understand your rules, but I'm surprised you took the PS2 version of unleashed over the personally superior (if using classic controller) Wii version.
