Mango man of India | Padma Shri Kalimullah Khan | Unsung India Foundation

The Unsung India Foundation presents a talk-doc on Haji Kalimullah Khan, affectionately known as the "Mango Man of India." Hailing from Malihabad near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Khan is a distinguished horticulturist and fruit breeder. He gained fame for cultivating over 300 different varieties of mangoes on a single tree through grafting techniques. Despite dropping out of school in the 7th standard, Khan embraced his family’s farming business and made remarkable strides in horticulture. His grafting has led to the creation of several new mango varieties named after celebrities and political leaders such as Sachin Tendulkar, Aishwarya Rai, Akhilesh Yadav, Sonia Gandhi, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah. One of his most notable creations, the Anarkali mango, boasts two different skins and layers of pulp, each with a distinct taste. Khan's dedication and contributions to the field were recognized by the Government of India when he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in 2008.
