I heard of them before Horror Stories posted about them. I read about them in a non-fiction book about the Circus Fire of 1944 which is a horrific tragedy that not enough people know about. They were there, and obviously survived. They are only briefly in the book, but still!

It's literally so intriguing and I swear I caught myself holding my breath a few times during some of their stunts 😱😳🙈.

I went to Detroit to see the Seven performed after a 36 year break from performing the Seven. It was the ,ost spectacular thing I have ever witnessed. Years
Later Delilah and her family were enforcing at LeSourdsville Lake in Ohio. I was fortunate enough to meet the Wallendas and they all very graciously agreed to sign Delilahs book. I still have the book. They are truly amazing people!m

Must have been something to see The Wallendas do the 7 ,been a fan of theirs since I saw Karl fall in 1978 on U.K. news it bothered me I kept thinking about it all next day at school. I’ve never seen them but have books including Delilah’s book The Last of the Wallendas which is a great book! Wallenda by Ron morris is also a fantastic book too!. Don’t have signed books but have 2 T- shirts signed by Nik wallenda.

My dad's family saw their performance right before that fatal show in 1962. He and his younger siblings were still talking excitedly about it when they heard there was an accident. It was very upsetting for them. My dad never went to another show like that, until I was in my teens and he gave into our begging to see the circus. And unfortunately, the couple doing the high wire act fell. They were injured but alive. My dad somehow found them after the show, cause he had to reassure himself they were going to be alright. That show had the audience vote if the high wire act would perform with a net or not, and the net won by a narrow margin.

I was there with the Safety Patrol from school when the fall in Detroit occurred. We were taken by train to the show, being entertained by Poop Deck Paul and Soupy Sales, two local kids entertainers from TV on the way there. Of course as things happened, other circus acts came rushing out to quickly try to draw our attention away from what had happened. But we all had seen it........

wow talk about living life on the edge. the whole family could be wiped out any day. I watched this to see karls death in 78 but it ends abruptly. its like half a book.

Thank you for watching. The description accompanying the video makes clear that it is not the full documentary and that it ends before the part dealing with Karl's death, which is no doubt frustrating for viewers. To make up for it, here is the ABC News report from 1978 describing his death in, it should be said, rather disturbing detail: www.google.com/search?q=karl+wallenda+falls&rlz=1CAXLEN_enCA712CA714&oq=karl+wallenda+fall&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l3.5486j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:9e0cea88,vid:S90DnKM_j4Q

Hi Christy. When I first listened to the clip after your comment, I was shaking my head in confusion as well. But I listened to it again. He says "the show has to go on because this is not a game we're playing, this is our life, and life does not end." So I think (I'm surmising here) he means that performing on the highwire is what the Wallendas live for, it's not a game, it's their life, and that their life as a circus act doesn't end even if the lives of individuals do. But I can see how it is confusing. On another note, I listened to your story! Well done and very impressive) I get the impression you absolutely love writing and that you hope to do it professionally someday. I hope your dream comes true. Keep writing every day. That's the secret. It's like anything else. You have to practice all the time to improve, not unlike the Wallendas. Though I think writing is at least a bit safer:) Keep up the great work!

This documentary is ok but there was a much better one from a series called life time I think.
Much better storyline and content footage.
Like the incident where Karl and his family were doing the 7 or 8 man pyramid rehearsal at a venue the day before the event. A circus I think.
So errie and creepy and nightmarish, black and white video footage with the audio, all of a sudden, the lights go out. Pitch black dark.
You hear Karl saying ok ok don't panic, remember, (something something I forgot, but probably eluding to the fact it's about balance and you don't technically need to see) and I guess after a few seconds when he could feel everyone was calm, he yells out what in the hell is going on here! Whats wrong with you stupid people, where's the lights!
    Can you imagine?
Then there was the backyard accident, his brother or son in law lost half his teeth, jaw wired shut, others wanted to quit and Karl's wife pleading in a German doting way, Karl, why don't you retire, everyone is scared etc etc and Karl is saying awwww geee, like a kid, nooo nooooo.....lol, quitting was the LAST thing on his mind. That was his boyish way of trying to get his way and it's not so bad mom...lol.
I honestly believe many in his troupe, their hearts weren't into it, but it's old school, family thing, different times but almost like a cult but obviously more constructive and positive, but never the less, what is the true gain?
It was obvious obsession on Karl's part and others involved, like a cult sort of, had no where else to go. They could leave obviously or quit, but they knew Karl in his eyes would never look at them the same way again.
You would feel obligated to help, because Karl being a classic German, there is a lot of good times associated with the terrifying times and you kind of want to be in the club.
But guarenteed, if you quit and a year later wanted back in, Karl the classic German once again, mysteriously lol, there would be a spot open, no wait involved because I'm sure he was always short on manpower as a result of the attrition rate.
Not easy being in that club for sure.
I am positive, because I know those German types, there is no middle ground. When it's tough, it's hell, when it good, it's the best of times.
Obviously Karl is the charismatic charmer, but sincere. That's why many stuck it out.
In Karl's mind, it's simple and true, there is nothing to worry about if you truly don't worry. The wire is all about heart. If the wire shakes, it's because you are shaking it. If you fall, it's because you made that choice.
Very very true, simple cause and effect on the fine line of a high wire.
    Rip Karl.

I could maybe understand doing this if it brought wealth! Lots of people might risk their lives for a million dollars. But to risk your life all the time like this without significant financial rewards just doesn't make any sense to me. Life is too precious.
