  • The city of Melbourne said it has taken steps to communicate with railroad officials amid concerns that Brightline’s warning horns are too loud. Officials with the city said that in areas where the 18 intersections are closer together, the warning horns appear to be more continuous. The city is considering applying for “quiet zones.”

Elevated track fixes this, but the less expensive solution would be people not being idiots and stopping on the track. Brevard is one of the worst offenders for cars getting themselves hit by trains.

elevated tracks are expensive and people are gonna continue being idiots so there's not much we can do but implementing quiet zones isnt going to help, probably the opposite.

"Quiet Zones" only work when you have four-quadrant crossing gates. Melbourne should put the money up to upgrade the grade crossings.

Nobody listens to crossing gates if they're just a little stick. It's common in the rest of the world to have in-city crossing gates be a full height gate that prevents pedestrians from trying to race across.

The horns are needed because the line was built on the cheap by a private company that cut corners to save money, had the government built the railway they would have had the money to do the job properly, with bridges and underpasses to get rid of the crossings. As usual, the people were the very last to be considered, money came first and last.

Progress? These trains have been in operation doing 125mph in Europe since the 1970s.
