All the super minis are limited by heat dissipation. Only changes in processor generation can lead to meaningful performance upgrades. But beside that, isn't your comment the story of PCs for the last 30 years? Faster, some new ports, etc. Software is where the real change is.
there are a lot of differences. You can all kinds of CPUs for it, some allow for full ssd, some dont, some have dual ethernet, some have fans, others dont. I mean, what do you expect, you need a minipc that can cook your dinner?
a big misconception. for example, you will have two mini-PCs running on the same hardware, but one processor will run at 35 watts, the other at 65 watts. According to the final performance, these will be two completely different devices. And some of them are almost unsuitable for serious work and games, for example Peladn HA-4. His memory overheats and as a result, performance drops everywhere, and freezes and lags appear in games. But there is no such thing in SER7 or GTR7. Not to mention that USB 4 40 Gbps is not everywhere.
What major differences could they have? They can have different CPU's and cooling setups, some can do 2 SSD's, but otherwise they're all made around a mostly standardized board size so there's not going to be huge differences.

What the use case for these boxes since they cost as much or more than a similarly spec'd laptop? You're better off buying a laptop where you can travel and take your games with you. Traveling with this thing requires a suitcase load of peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse and LCD screen.
If I were traveling, I'd rather play games on a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation Portal-or actually going places and doing things other than gaming when I can do that at home. Laptops are more prone to critical hardware failure. I've never had a laptop last more than a few years without the hinge, or barrel charging port breaking. It's also unhealthy to bring them to bed. As a software developer, this has better single and multi-threaded performance than a laptop. This also works perfectly for a setup I have in my living room where I have a large 4K monitor on an arm mount clamped to a sturdy height-adjustable side table with wheels. When the day comes that you want to retire it, you can use it as a TV box, server, or give it to someone to use as a desktop replacement.
if you pay attention, the ryzen in the ser8 is RYZEN 7. which means, have the lower base clock version of the radeon 780m in it. which means still below the previous mini PC "new" this channel shown the other day, the geekom A8. that one use ryzen 9. also, in asia, the price listing of the previous version of beelink ser7 is somewhat higher than the previous version of geekom A7. so, most likeley, since i already see very affordable price listing of the A8 in asia, the beelink ser8 would be on the higher price level, while it still uses ryzen 7 instead of 9. people buy these stuff for the compact and affordability.
