This guy was a good 5 years ahead of everyone else at the time.
By todays standards the average player wouldn't really be impressed by Vurtne anymore. But back then what he was doing looked like magic. It was like living in the year 1856, and out of nowhere someone introduced you to the Iphone. He's an icon and a milestone in WoW PvP. Absolute legend. o7

I'm very average (hence the comparison), but standards of play evolve over time. Doesn't take away from the greatness of these vids to acknowledge reality. You'll get over it.

This really triggers a special place in my heart. The feeling swirling up in my chest is from out of this world. Some may say this is just a game but this is more. There are so many almost forgotten moments, friends that went offline and never came back on, so much time spent...ah hearing these songs and seeing Vurtne, one of my heroes back then...it just hurts but it was a wonderful time. Thank you for these memories
This was not "just a game" brother. I was there, Gandalf, I was there 18 years ago.. It's almost impossible to put into words how WoW made us feel back then. Not playing anymore for a long time now, but to this day I come back to these classics every now and then for a nostalgic aftertaste of the feeling. Probably always will.

Best Mage in Vanilla by far. I can admit I learned so much from him, and I'm not the only one.
Vurtne was easily the biggest factor for me choosing to play Mage. Otherguy helped too. Man, good times, long gone.

at one point he had full high warlord maan he fucking rekted everyone
full high warlord is about the gear lvl you get from AQ40. naxx is an entirely different world of hurt. i see some guys with my gear level do some insane 5 and 6v1, just because of the sheer amount of damage and mana you get from t3 and other naxx gear. pvping at that level of gear feels dirty, because it feels like beating children. no resistance, just an unbridled slaughter fest.

slipknotfan! He didn’t have High Warlord gear back in Vanilla strictly speaking I believe. If I’m not mistaken he got the warlord gear at the beginning of BC, when it didn’t require r12-r13 rank anymore and just costed honor, and he used it in his Vurtne 60-66 PvP video. Back in Vanilla he didn’t have it. And as said by somebody else here, epic PvP gear is roughly equivalent to T2 gear, not even AQ or Naxx, so it’s not “this good” compared to T3 (but still mandatory for some classes specialization, like shadow priests).
So satisfying to see mind control helm being usable on combat and working correctly overall

if classes in vanilla were balanced like in 3.3.5 it would have been great, except for enhancement shaman, cause he got weaker and it wasn't a terribly good spec in pvp to begin with, just a leveling spec, it was my favorite , its alright in bfa but the game is just a faceroll grind and jackpot machine, where u barely talk to anyone to do stuff

@Thelondonbadger when hunters got a spell reflect on deterrence in Cata I reflected an arcane blast back at some mage for like 79k. almost one shot himself, was epic.

wow, this video is already 13 years old, I feel so old now, I played a lot of mage inspired by this guy.
everytime i watch video's like this it makes me miss the old days D: not saying the game was any better back then blizzard are trying to keep it interesting and you gotta give them props for that... but i miss all the fun i had with friends just you know... playing the game, instead of standing in major city waiting for a queue or something D:

That's 2 different helmet, one charges the enemy while the other mind controls. This is back in vanilla when you can change your gear mid-fight (unlike today) and it wont trigger a 30 sec cooldown. He changes the gear to suit his needs.

Teringventje TBC did not guage pvp skill at all. It was children sandbox fighting compared to the wild wild west that was vanilla.
Super late reply, but another Swede, "Danaik Triple D" get's my vote. Survival (at the time the pve spec) hunter lvl 72-78 vs mostly lvl 80 (groups / fully geared).
He barely played TBC lol.

i started playing as warrior, then seen his movie, rolled a mage, kept playing mage past 7 years.
Zeuzo, Minimadness, Kendo -- its wild how many decent alliance players played on this server under Vurtne's tyranny
there was always a 30 sec cooldown, he just kept the engi ones equipped before a fight and then switched to non-toggled gear after he dropped combat in 6 seconds
ive watched this a couple of times and every time at 18:05 i tear up a little bit when he controls that healer, he was about to die but its so great

Yellowfish D Its a vanilla server thats 1x but right now 1 GM went rogue and released alot of "shady" info.
All other GMs had given out money/items on to their guildies, GM's guild free farmed Ragnaros 5times under 1 week cuz of a bug, each restart/server crash ur "raid history save" was cleard and Ragnaros couldnt attack ranged players.
Script sucks ass when u ding 60 and try to raid.

Just fyi, there was summoning stones in Vanilla, too. As well as warlocks being able to summon.

No. The tooltip was "increases damage and healing done my magical spells and effect done by up to x" for damage items. and "increases healing done by magical spells and effect done by up to x" for healing gear.

fun fact : 13:11 zeuzo is the rogue who sold his acc for like $8000 and was later banned. He was the most geared player i believe in the BT patch.

Oh god... I'm realy sad when I thing about this time. I stopped WoW at the end of BC, I did lot and lot of PvP with my rogue and my mage, i got the glad title on the mage who was my main. I came back 1 years ago for Cata for 1 month, I saw it was shit and then i stopped again...
Am I alone to fell sadness while looking at these old movies ?... It's realy weird to feel sadness about a game but that's what I feel... =(
