@@goatie977 Would enjoy a CRF 450 Rally, but Dave raised an interesting point in his MAD video, the larger engine creates gyroscopic forces that makes the bike feel heavier, even though the 701 and 300 are of similar weight. There was an interesting video by a young man who owns both the CRF300L and the CRF450L and he says the CRF300L feels lighter even though the 450 actually weighs less. How about a CRF 400 Rally? I'd love that and would pay for the much better CRF450RL suspension. At 58 years old, I need a light bike and my WR250R is feeling too tall as I start shrinking - getting old isn't for wusses. Going to put a deposit down on the CRF300L Rally.
Great ADV ride, Sean! Pity about the bloody weather though. Some stunning views and lookouts across Taipan Tops, and further out where you guys ended up. May have to do it again in dry weather 😁😉
Woot! Real men, there. I like to putt on forest and service roads, but this looks like actual work! Loved the hand saw...we needed one to swap a push to a pull throttle cable two rides ago!
It's kinda funny to see how the big, heavy bikes make riding that trail look so dramatic and then you hop across on that light 300 like it's nothing special haha. Light bikes are so fun.
Thanks Sean , I watched the Darcy version last night , now yours tonight , don't tell Dave , but enjoyed yours better because it felt more natural and no drama queen stuff , just honest arse puckering moments . I have ridden most of those roads and trails in the past 6 months and some of them are quite steep and very intimidating in wet conditions . I bet you were all quite relieved when you popped out onto Cabbage Tree rd .
Thanks for the comments. And a couple of people have said the same thing. Darcy likes to tell a "story", my style is to give my perspective of the ride/adventure. I'm still working all this RUclips / video editing stuff out myself and trying to make quality content. hey, protip on osmand; in your offroad profile, set map style to offroad. include mountainbike routes, set nav settings to type bycicle and route preference to offroad. Might also set height lines to zoom level 11. Makes a world of difference in visualisation and routing. You could also set ms earth as secondary map with opacity slider on screen. Helps a lot to route trough questionable areas. This should be the perfect setting for ALL offroad bikers around the world, exept Belgian. Leave routing there on "car", and stay out of the woods & look at signs.
@@ShonkyProductions no prob. Took me ages to finetune an offroad profile , so if you can spare someone the agony of wading trough every menu, and a lot of trail and error. Never "adjust" the pressure on a heavy adv bike. If you hit a rot or a sharp stone the weight of the bike will pinch the tire and/or the inner-tube. Use the same pressure as on the street. Ride safe. :)

i almost bought a 701 last week. it was a 2020 at a good price, but i keep watching your videos and keep thinking the 300l Rally would suit me better and be much cheaper to buy and own. And reliability. Yet, if Dave or Nugget offered to trade their bikes for yours?
I hear what you're saying, Michael... IF I could afford any bike, I would buy a Husky 701 and add a rally kit to it. I'd have to upgrade the suspension and also change the gearbox gears so that it can cruise on the road comfortably. Once I did all that I'd be looking at about $25,000+ for a bike. To me, that's crazy! I can't afford that, but I can afford a Honda CRF 300 Rally that does everything a Husky 701 does... except accelerate as hard. The Husky has more power, but it also uses more fuel and 'feels' heavier in the hard or tight stuff. Have a good think about where you want to ride and what you want out of your bike. I'll be doing another big adventure ride with those boys in a few weeks, so stay tuned for the video on that to see how I did riding with the 701's.
High Sean Amazing adventure. What a gnarly ride. Looking forward to more of your epic trips on the little 300 I have been using a 550 chip on mine for a little while and it helps. Well done on the clay. I am more like Dave 😂 unfortunately I am using a golden tyre fatty on the front. Looks aggressive enough. Do you have experience with them on clay??
Hi Tony, thanks for your comments. I'll be putting out a review of the 550performance ECU very soon. I run the Golden Tyre fatty front on my enduro bike (Ktm250exc) and love it in the dry. I did a very wet and muddy ride with it a few weeks ago and I had a few front wheel washouts, maybe I was running too little air pressure in for the knobs to bite into. I'm thinking about putting one on the 300 Rally, it would be great in the sand and rocks, I like the way it handles rough terrain.

Hi Daniel, I'm running the OSMand app. I've been using it for a few years and really like it... Plus, it's free. I've bought the paid version for a few extra features. I'm using a Chinese rugged phone that's dust, waterproof and shockproof. That setup is working well for me so far.
I'm running the Michelin Starcross 5 and they worked really well in the mud. They will probably be finished by 2000km as I'm doing some high-speed road kilometers too. I'm going to try something else next and try to find a combo that handles all conditions and lasts... We'll see. And if you're talking about that massive hole @30:50, then YES... that would have been really bad. Luckily someone had placed a stick and a white plastic bag to warn people.
@@ShonkyProductions I've now done exactly 5000 km on a set of D606 on my 250 Rally, primarily tarseal but also a lot of gravel roads and a good amount of sand and mud. The front is completely shot and I'll try the internet's MT21 next, but the rear still has 8mm on the centre tread blocks so I'm going to keep it a while longer and see what happens. I've decided to get MotoSR in Taupo to revalve everything and get springs more suited to me. Cost $1100-$1200 NZD, so $1000-$1100 AUS or $750-$825 is yankee money. For both ends.

@@goatie977 is there any actual word of a 450 rally coming along?
@@charliem5332 no, not in Australia. Now if Husqvarna made a bike to compete with the Honda 300 Rally, it would have to weigh a lot less one would think.
Definitely, that's exactly what I was thinking as I was riding through. I'll head back up there in a few months.
Woot! Real men, there. I like to putt on forest and service roads, but this looks like actual work! Loved the hand saw...we needed one to swap a push to a pull throttle cable two rides ago!
Yes, we often explore well off the main service roads and need to be prepared for cutting fallen trees etc.
That's exactly what I ordered my rally 3 hundy for and its due about now. Really enjoyed your production thanks.
Hope it turns up soon for you.
It's kinda funny to see how the big, heavy bikes make riding that trail look so dramatic and then you hop across on that light 300 like it's nothing special haha. Light bikes are so fun.
Very true 👍
Wow what a trip. Definitely better on a small bike I reckon. Great video. Cheers Jeff
Jeff, smaller bikes are the way to go. Less worry = More fun.
I enjoy the whole process and it was great to have Darcy make a video of the same ride to compare. He's actually spent a fair bit of time answering my RUclips questions and given me lots of camera and editing advise.
Thanks again for watching and taking the time to reply.
Oh, and you'll have to show me around up there another time... But on my enduro bike please.

hey, protip on osmand; in your offroad profile, set map style to offroad. include mountainbike routes, set nav settings to type bycicle and route preference to offroad.
Great advice, thanks. I'll set it up like that now.

@@ShonkyProductions funny the 701 would be the ones given to test I believe
So excited for this. Who did the suspension on your bike?
Pro-Moto Suspension
i almost bought a 701 last week. it was a 2020 at a good price, but i keep watching your videos and keep thinking the 300l Rally would suit me better and be much cheaper to buy and own.

@@ShonkyProductions Thanks Sean I appreciate your insight, has got to be better then the 606 I usually run on the front which is marginal in clay.

I'm 5'9 and I can get both feet (balls of feet, not flat foot) down. The suspension id setup for 80-100kg though. I have just today, wound down the rear preload 10mm and that has made it a bit better. If its too high you can either use a lowering link or get the suspension setup for your height (lowered)

Hi Daniel,
I'm running the OSMand app. I've been using it for a few years and really like it... Plus, it's free. I've bought the paid version for a few extra features.
I'm using a Chinese rugged phone that's dust, waterproof and shockproof.
That setup is working well for me so far.
What is your tyre choice for the mud Sean ??? @33:50 OMG good job you didn’t hit that at speed !!!

@@ShonkyProductions I imagine the D606 isn't as good in the clay / mud as your motocross tyre, but it's pretty good -- 10x better than the IRCs -- and road legal. Motoz Tractionator Enduro S/T (or even I/T) might be better than D606 in the mud (but probably not much), but really quite unpleasant on tar, and I believe they wear quickly too.
