The fact that Nanami, while 3/4’s in the grave was still worried about saving Megumi, Maki, and Naobito just speaks volumes to what an amazing guy he was. Also I heard the VA for Nanami knew it was his last time in the booth so he literally broke down voicing these lines, what dedication to the character 💔
JJK doesn't show much of the of day-to-day lives of the characters, but we're led to believe Nanami became the main mentor and possibly even a father figure to Yuji, which makes this episode even sadder. Nanami also liked Yuji from the start, probably because he reminded him much of Haibara, since both have that upbeat relaxed personality. Gege really stabbed our hearts with this one.
This episode is such a killer... I was so devastated after it as well :'( I love your reactions so much, you're so emotionally intelligent and catch all the little things the authors intend. It's very refreshing to see someone fully grasp the emotional impacts ♥
The most painful part about Nanami's death is that he left his simple life because he felt empty and unfulfilled. But the reason why Haibara ( Nanami's deceased friend ) points at Itadori in the end after Nanami asks why he came back is because he did find fulfillment in the work finally, after all that time. There was something worthwhile in it, not only helping people and feeling the sheer gratitude of someone thanking you, but also there are people within it like Yuji who made him feel that not all hope is lost despite the cycle of curses.
I just want you to remember: GEGE is the main villain of JJK. As a manga reader, this is just the beginning of the pain. Gege is the type of person who will make us suffer with painful deaths like this. I actually cried when I saw Nanami's death even though I was prepared😞😭😭😭😭
Your talk about horror elements in the beggining of the video reminded me that Gege, the author of jjk, actually wanted the series to be more of a horror initially. It getting a high school setting and the shounen elements it has were all editors' suggestions.
For me, being a little league coach irl on the weekends, I related to Nanami so much in the sense of being that elder statesman-like figure and really looking out for the younger generation (plus his over time gag hit me, like at my corporate job im literally him 😂) sensei & parental figure characters always tend to be my favorites in anime and for JJK he absolutely was mine. i cried when i first saw this episode 😢

When I tell you I sobbed loudly on this episode… 😭😭 They gave him a beautiful send off, but it’s still a send off of a great character. But the range of emotions we feel in this episode is incredible. Makes it realistic because we can’t finish processing one emotion and the situation. You summed it up beautifully.
You have the right idea, Makora has been 'summoned' before, but only _for_ the ritual, nobody has ever been able to subjugate it and make it their own. As depressing as it may be, this is a really beautiful episode. The sequence at the start does an amazing job of putting you in Itadori's frame of mind, and the art direction for Nanami's scene with the transitions and the piano, gorgeous. And Mahito. God damn Mahito. He's such a good villain.
Personally this is what I like about JJK, it keeps me on edge about potentially losing any beloved character instead of them having a massive plot armor. Fun fact. When you said you can feel Yuji's rage, the OST track playing is called, "With Rage". So I think the whole thing with Haibara is that essentially Nanami's subconcious reminding him that Jujustu Sorcerors use thier pain for good. Much like Nanami (eventually) channelled the pain loss and guilt over Haibara's death to save people... He needed to help Yuji do the same. He knew he was dying, and part of him didn't want to curse Yuji because Nanami is a good guy. But also... he realised that Yuji could use that curse to beat the cursed spirits. Its the weird dicotamy of Jujustu Sorcs. They might to do good, but to be powerful... they kind of need to be broken. The more negative emotions they can channel, the power they will be.

Obviously I'm way late, but here's my two cents on the 10 shadows taming: The user starts with control of the dogs only and has to defeat each of the other 9 shikigami in the taming ritual to gain control of them, but they have to defeat them on their own (they can use their already tamed shikigami of course) without other sorcerers' help for it to actually count. The intuitive application is to first do the ritual with allies who can help you if the taming is harder than you can comfortably handle and do it alone once you grow confident you can beat the shikigami reliably on your own. Since others don't need to agree to be part of the ritual, you can drag them into it and the shikigami will keep attacking until it or all participants die. On a bit of a tangent, it seems to be implied that this trick could be spammed if it doesn't work the first time since the taming ritual can be repeated any number of times until the user completes it on their own.

I think its very much poinient to highlight that the main theme of JJK is "Dying a proper death", and always has been from episode one, with Yuji's grandpa being unsatisfied with his, and calling for Yuji to have a proper death.
3:30 As Gojo said, Gojo clan and Zenin clan have beef between them because the heads of the two houses killed each other one time. One had the Limitless and Six Eyes, just like Satoru, and the other had the 10 shadows... so yeah, the Zenin head summoned Mahoraga and said "good luck" XD
I remember when and where I was when I read the chapter where Nanamin dies. It was in 2021. When this episode came out, I cried again. I’m sorry for your lost here.
The battles are so hype in this arc, but the emotional impact is almost too much to handle when you really take in what's happening to all these poor people who just wanted to help the world be a safer and better place. Another thing the author showed that really hits home is that Nanami selflessly fought for his and several others lives and shelved his dream of going to Malaysia to relax, meanwhile, Mei mei gives almost zero F's for anything besides money and she went to Malaysia in a matter of seconds on a whim to save her own hide and barely appreciated any of it or cared much for anyone, when she was one of the most powerful players in the Shibuya battle and could have made a huge difference safely with Bird strike and communications. It's almost a slap in the face (actually it totally is one).
