I so appreciate all of your videos! I don’t have anyone to teach me this stuff so I’m learning on my own and your videos have been hugely helpful. I really love that you take the time on all of your videos to really explain everything you’re doing. Explaining what gear you are in, when to use manual shifting, when and how to air down, when to use lockers, how to pick a line, proper tire placement, all of that is so helpful. Thank you!!!

@@TrailTraveler I would love an in-depth tutorial on doing a proper descent on steep and rocky trails without slipping and riding the breaks. I’m working on figuring out how to use 4-low and manual gears together without the transmission lurching from gear to gear. And I can’t quite figure out the downhill assist. When I use it it feels and sounds like my e-break is on and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m in a stock 2021 JL Rubicon on 33’s. Again - thank you so much! I really appreciate you and your wife and all of the effort you put into your videos. I’m in Colorado too, so I’m also using your videos to map out my trail runs! 😊

I appreciate the lesson. I recently came up with a couple of other whys.... I hit a sharp rock with full street inflation ans with 2.5 tons, with two forces not willing to give, rock wins. I ended up with an irrepairable gash in my expensive investment. Aired down, the tire would have "formed" around the sharp rock and I woyld have never known (prefer it that way...)
Secondly, even if I dont mind a little shake rattle and roll, and an occasional jounce, it might be playing havoc on my suspension. While I might get under my toy with a torque wrench from time to time, catching a bent control arm, or a missing bolt, and wondering how long you've been wheeling like that...

Air down or air up time really doesn't matter to me as that is a time to chat a bit about the trail. I'm not in that big of a hurry. I happen to use Stahns that are preset for 20#, as I've found that pressure works best for my vehicle. I built a 2 tire system so I can air up one side of the vehicle, and then the other side, and it takes maybe 15-20 minutes total to air back up.

Extremely well done video as usual Kerry. You deserve to get a lot of views on this one. One thing you could have gone into some detail with is airing down with your 4-tire inflation system. That’s what I do. With mine, it takes a little over two minutes, does all four tires at once, and I end up with equalized pressure all around. But, there is also some added time in unpacking and repacking the equipment…maybe 5 minutes for that, leaving about 7 total to air down.

I have a question, but first... always great videos! Super helpful to a newbie. I finished my rig in Oct 2022 and I've only been on 1 solo trip. Heading to Moab next week! My buddy and I are taking the Rimrocker Trail (we watched your video) and we both drive Raptors. We are airing down to 25 PSI, but how fast can we drive at that PSI? THANK YOU FOR ALL THE VIDEOS :)

For most of that "trail" you can expect around 30mph. Sometimes more, sometimes less. In the forest area you have to be very careful of the cows.

@@TrailTraveler Yes sir. And we are not looking to drive fast, just curious bc i have a long travel suspension. Leave no trace and enjoy the view :) All the best!

Good stuff buddy! Mud, Snow, Sand, and wet rocks for me… but occasionally a dry trail (*wheeler lake) has forced my hand lol

Kerry, How do you control the pressure when airing down with the Apex if it comes out that fast? does it have a way to preset the pressure you want? Thanks

Isnt airing your tires down going to be a little more “gentle” on the terrain? A bigger softer footprint
I know some of this is how you drive.
But shouldnt a harder/stiffer tire tear up the ground more?
Im coming from a dirtbike background. Maybe this doesnt matter as much with exponentially heavier vehicles

Absolutely. There was a test that was done, don’t recall the site, that airing down reduced washboarding. It would also help reduce dugouts.
