I just got this lawn mower on clearance for only $299 at Walmart and your video was the first I've came across. One recommendation I'd have for anyone who wants this and want a faster charger, Hart makes a fast charger for the 40v batteries that charges them supposedly 3x faster. So if the 5.0aH battery takes about 3 hours to fully charge then with the fast charger it should take only an hour. So plenty fast to recharge the battery and yourself before getting back out to mow some more. 😁
I hope they realize they need a double-wide with two batt-rees soon that would help cover an acre … then they'll be good to go and we'll breath easier …
I’m not gonna lie I didn’t like the white color at first but it’s grown on me:) also that single height adjustment is sick, I hate changing the height on my Honda especially since one of the wheels stick lol
The white color is definitely something that sets it apart from other lawn equipment. It's a unique color scheme for sure. I dont know why all lawn mower manufacturers haven't figured out a way to make a single point height adjustment. Thanks for watching, George, I really appreciate it. Have a great fall up there in Chicago!
Thank you I am thinking of getting a hart electric mower. I had a TBI stroke 4 years ago n im re-learning how to do everything again. Mowing grass will be one of those new re- learning things. Since I dont drive now, n can't get to the gas station or know how to deal with all the gas, oil mixture n maintained on a gas mower, I think it will be easier for me to learn how to cut with an electric mower. And im.a disabled senior person n I can't find anyone that cuts my grass neatly n thats a big deal to me. Im hoping with the grass clipping bagger it will make the removal easier, n the height adjustment better n my overall experience greater. Ty
Very good video. I bought one of these today. The cheaper one. The battery is charging and sometime today I'll try it out. I am tired of the pulling of the gas mower to crank it. I have bursitis in both shoulders and I'm left handed and no mower cranks up on the left side. It's just a struggle to crank them. That's all. Plus being almost 64 years old I wear out faster.
Check out the hart riding mower. It’s new, comes with a built in battery and takes about 2 hours to fully charge. You can cut up to 1acer off of a full charge.
Yes, Hart should of included 2 batteries with this product. Not only that, Hart makes two different 40 V Ah batteries that is confusing to many as I. The 4.0 Ah 40 V and the 5.0 Ah 40 V battery. Hart claims you can use either the 4.0 or the 5.0 on this mower as long as it's a 40 V battery. Don't know the truth in that tho. Battery cost is crazy! Over $150.00 just to have a extra battery.. I find it strange the Mower has two storage spaces for two batteries but, Hart only included one battery for the such high price tag.
Hey Dan, thanks for watching! Any of the 40v batteries will work with HARTs 40v tools. The amp hours will just dictate how long the battery will last. The higher the amp hour the longer it will generally last. It's common for all brands who sell battery powered equipment to have a few different amp hour batteries but still have the same voltage. To your point about battery cost, this is pretty much the case with all battery powered equipment at this point in time. I would imagine prices on this will decrease as the technology continues to improve. The good thing about this, is that the battery will last a while. This mower only has 1 storage space for an extra battery, the other slot is wear the battery connects to the mower. Thanks again for your support and leaving this comment.
Great review. Very thorough. Probably not a good investment for me, as I’m on about a half acre. I enjoyed seeing how far electric mowers have come thus far. I did like the height adjustment! That was good. Honda and Toro should pay attention to that feature!
Thank you! I'm not quite sure why more mower manufacturers haven't made a single point height adjustment like this that would come standard on all their mowers. Thank you again for stopping by!
Hey when the battery goes down, you pull string on gas push mower and you start to push and try to breath and you're like goodbye to gas mower emissions forever
After switching from a gas powered lawnmower to this electric and seeing how amazing it is and easy to use no fuss no hassle it’s making me want to get an electric car
Not a fan at all the charge don’t last more then 20 mins and it dies every 1 min because it can’t handle grass 2 inches long and by the time you have to restart the mower every other minute you get about 1/5 the yard done then have to wait 4 1/2 hours to finish just buy a real mower
Just bought one of these on clearance at Walmart for 150.00! I figured that amount would be the equivalent of buying the battery and getting the mower for free!
I bought this mower about 3 years ago. I couldn't get it to start after about 1 1/2 years so I took it to the authorized repair center. I couldn't find my receipt but they tracked my purchase by serial number and Hart sent a new mower with 2 batteries! I thought that was great. My only problem now is as soon as I press on the handle it takes off and I can't stop it-so the power drive isn't turning off. I guess I'll call Hart.
There is a small, white electrical connector inside the clamshell housing on the right-hand side handle (the one with the wire) that needs to be inspected. This clamshell is the black section into which the main handle slides when you push on it to go. With the handle in the storage position, you can easily remove the 5 or 6 screws to open up this clamshell. There are 4 wires going into this white interconnect, and they really did not leave enough wire length to relieve the stress on it. Consequently on mine, one of the pins of this connector had pulled out due to tension on the wire, but with some careful repositioning of the wire and some tweezers, I was able to re-insert the pin (socket) into the connector and give the wire a little more slack. This is the communication link from the speed control sensors in the handle to the drive motor controller, so it's very likely that if something like this has happened to yours that it could be causing your problem. Easy to check and fix if you're not getting any help from Hart. Cheers.

I understand your opinion. I was honest with this mower in my review and did not talk it up as though it's the best thing and everyone should buy it. Thanks for leaving your comment.
I bought a ryobi last summer. I'm about to get it out tomorrow for the first time this year. My only concern is the battery. Worked great last year. Hoping for the same for a few more.
Spot on review . Wish I had seen it before I bought mine and wonder why the battery was only lasting 15-20 minutes even though the box said it could cut up to 1/2 acre on one charge
I bought this mower after seeing your review. It really is a good mower. Silent, strong and charging the battery took me 3 hours so I know better to schedule something in the meantime. Thank you for doing this video. It really helped.
Awesome! I'm glad this video could provide some guidance for your purchase! It's a great mower and I hope you enjoy it this season! Thank you for your support!
Really hope you didn’t pay the full $497 for it. cause I would just take the opportunity to return it for that price and get the ego 21in plastic deck. Still gets most of the features other than the specific adaptive cruise ( it does have a thumb speed adjustment I think) but you gain more than double the battery and a fast charger. I do love my hart mower but I wouldn’t have bought it if my store hadn’t put them on clearance for almost half off
@@dylanwhite6539 It bought it for $287 w/battery. The starting mechanism is different but simple compared to the gas powered one. No more fuel storage at home. This I liked.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and recommendations. As I get older, it is hard to go around with the gas mower, I get really tired and I want something lighter and easy to move around.
I bought this exact Hart mower and it was cheaper now about $200. The mower is easy to use and I think for small lawns this mower is the way to go. Especially since I have had gas powered mowers for over 35 years it was so great to plug and go. No gas no oil or no loud noise. Because of the weight difference from a regular mower the Hart mower was so much easier to maneuver and faster to me to use.
I purchased a Hart 40v weedeater and have been quite happy so far with using it. I think this mower would probably be okay for my use since I usually don't try to mow the front and back on the same day. So one battery should be enough for my needs. Now to find one on clearance sale. ; )
I have there weed eater and chainsaw 40 volt. I’m impressed I watched videos and broke down and bought one then the other. The chainsaw is for home use not cutting timber.
I've bought my Ryobi almost three years this May, still loving it and it takes almost two batteries and bout fourty minutes to mow my lawn and I live in a mobile home park.
I guess I should ask another question. 21inch comes with steel deck. What is 20 inch deck made of??. Probably aluminum. I was wondering why 21inch was $100 more. Didn't make sense to be $100 more. I have to have steel where I live, too many trees on my property. I don't pick up sticks, LoL
@@TheLawnGuardian20 inch is a composite deck. I did alot of research this winter. I'm going with Toro recycler 60 volt at home Depot. 22 inch steel deck dual blades self propelled. $699 double what I paid for gas one 20 years ago. Check it out. It's a smart mower. Only goes as fast as you walk, puts out more power to rear wheels going up hill. Cuts 1/3 acre on full charge. I have to see it in person first. Thank you for your comment.
Is it a good mower? Yeah! Is it a good price? HELL NAW. I got mine on clearance for 279. Love using but for the same price EGO sells a 21in plastic deck or 20in steel deck, both with significantly larger batteries. The steel gets the 56v 5Ah which comes to 280Wh, the plastic deck (which honestly is the better mower) includes a 7.5Ah battery which is 420Wh. Both include active cooling systems on the batteries and chargers so when they’re rapid charging they’re being cooled to maintain life. The hart mower? 200Wh battery (measuring from 4.0v/cell like ego does) and super slow charger with no active cooling. The new rapid charger just needs to be included with this mower along with at least 2 5Ah batteries if they want to keep the same $497 price tag. Or for $409 it can keep the single battery it better still provide the fast charger.
Mowed 6,336 square feet with my double battery Greenworks. That includes going up a big hill and still had power to spare. I was using 2 60 volt 5AH batteries.
Yeah this wouldn't be the best option for a lawn your size. It's been really cool to have this opportunity to use this equipment. Thank you for watching!
People are funny,... They think if you have a deeper deck it keeps the grass in longer to chop it up LOL. What a deeper Deck really does, A deeper deck provides more updraft from the blades pulling the grass up evenly so the blades can make an even cut, a deeper deck will provide a more even cut. If you want to chop up the clippings better, buy Gator blades. People that don't understand how grass is really cut shouldn't do reviews or at least claim their reviews are knowledgeable to people that are trying to research for a purchase.
Make sure the batter is fully charged and clicked fully into the battery slot. Also, make sure the red key near the battery port is inserted. If this doesn't fix the problem you may want to reach out to HART.
Get a fast charger for about $my87. Takes about an hour. It's a hart fast charger. I got one free when I bought my hart brushless mower 3 years ago and love it.
Thank you! The way they incorporated the adaptive speed feature is pretty unique. You can also turn the adaptive speed feature off and just use it as a push mower if you wanted. Thanks for the support and have a great fall!
Do anyone know if there is a reset button on this mower? I was mowing my yard and it stopped. I typically don't get my whole yard done. So I charged and went back to it but it still won't start. Not sure what's wrong?
Great content Ben, was hearing rumblings that Toro was releasing a 60 Volt Super Recycler. If that’s the case I’d say a 60 Volt Time Master is not far behind!
good review and thank you for sharing it but......this mower has two issues, 1 i can't discharge and for the South and especially Florida, thats a big no go. you can't mulch down here. 2nd problem is Home Depot sells the self propelled Dewalt for $20 more and it includes 2 20volt 10 ah batteries that are equivalent to 2 40v 5 ah batts. in other words the dewalt comes with alot more battery for just $20 in price increase.
I'm a huge Honda fan. I wish they would enter the battery powered lawn equipment market. I think they'd bring some quality products to the DIY market. Thanks for watching and have a great fall!
Does all 40 volt Hart batteries work on mower? I have a 4.0 that came with weed trimmer, I purchased last year. I plan to purchase leaf blower this year which comes with 4.0 battery. Just want to know if 4.0 will work on mower as well. I plan to purchase self-propelled mower this spring. I'm tired of pulling to start. Thank you for great review
Question, would you say that a quarter acre may need 3-4 batteries and have you found out how long over time does a battery last? In other words, Will it last years or will I need to buy a battery more often? Thanks, Anna
I don't know how many charging cycles these batteries will last. The number of cycles a battery has ultimately determines how many years a battery lasts. The more cycles you use in the given season the less number of years it will last. I'd say 3-4 batteries for a quarter acre would be plenty.
My mom bought one today n I went over n cut her grass and I'm super impressed with this. She has a small lawn so one battery will cut it twice. Can't beat this for the price
Really great honest review! Have you found a solid electric mower you would recommend ? Considering the 40v kobalt self propelled figure self propelled will save the extra battery and I've used one similar and it was very easy to push.
Thank you! I would recommend this mower. I have not used the Kobalt before. I have used the EGO mower and equipment and I know they have great reviews as well. Thanks for watching!
I purchased the mower before seeing this video and to buy 2 more batteries so I can mow my yard in 1 day sounds awful and expensive. I will need to do it all on 1 battery in 3 days some how and an odd way to get things done for me but, grass grows and a break in-between mows mihjy be nice. That is more than I want to spend on an extra battery. Thanks for review, Anna

Mine just started taking off on me at full speed. I can't figure out how to get it back under control. It's all or nothing and it will absolutely drag me into the fence. Is this a simple fix or user error? Or should I just return it?
Sorry to hear you're having this problem. I'm not sure what might be going on so I'd recommend reaching out to HART's customer support or reach out to them on one their social media accounts. They should be able to help you there.
Like most walk behind mowers you'd probably have to do a double cut with grass that high but it definitely has the power to cut through grass that high.
Great job on the review. You can make a living doing those lol. Like the height adjustment lever the best and as far as battery time even my Liberty 43 40v only last 35-40 mins. Can't get over how well your lawn recovered. Looks amazing. :)
I've had mine for a year now and it does ok (it is a different model and lowers differently and was about half the price of this one and mine does not have metal). It does miss some spots and I wish it went a little bit lower than it does.
@@TheLawnGuardian 40 Volt 20 inch, $258 at Walmart. Not really sure of the model number but obviously yours is a level or two up. Mine has the "gear shifter" for changing the level. It does not get as quite low as I would like but it's a decent mower. I have found that it will miss a few spots. but it is very light weight, quiet and I have 2 batteries. The 5.0 battery will do the whole lawn and the 2.5 will do a little over half. I bought an extra one to be safe when I bought it last year. I alternate between the Hart and the Briggs. I think the gas mower gives me a better cut but I am fine with either.
Yeah the adaptive speed is very similar to Toro's Personal Pace. You can really feather and control the self propel with both. I think HART has a quick charger now but I do not have it.
Recently bought one and with a full charge the batteries only lasted about 8 minutes. Have only been able to use it once and after tinkering with it I think its sensitive to the heat. Went to mow when it was in the 90s outside and the battery went out after those 8 minutes, but after letting it cool for a few minutes I'd be able to get it to run for another minute or so. Anyone else live in warmer climate area and experience something similar? Going to try mowing in the morning next time when its cooler to see if it lasts longer
It works great in overgrown lawns as well. Don't knock it until you try it. Battery equipment has come a long way. Don't get me wrong, gas still has it's place but electric lawn equipment will be more than adequate for most homeowners. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Awesome review on these. I LOVE this product after switch to an electric setting for my lawn care actually. I don't mind spending the price for the extra batteries, thanks amazon ($89-$105). I only have the edger but I've since used the Ryobi products TO ME seems to be a smitch more powerful but then again, Hart has more of a commercial-like feel but shoot either way. I'm still debating which full line I'm going to go. It's hard here to find hart products.
this is the most expensive model. I bought the self propel model and you select the speed, good in a field not if you have to make alot of turns. to light in the front, wants to lift up, put a front wheel drive on this mower and put a side shoot on it , all this being said I will buy the above model in the future.
Excellent review and I liked the attention to the smaller details like the actual height adjustment and the knobs protruding. I wonder, this looks a LOT like a Ryobi that's just painted white as does the battery and charger (from what I could see). Would you happen to know if the HART is interchangeable with Ryobi batteries and, as for the garage, perhaps you could expand it to allow for more cool stuff!
Thank you, I appreciate your comment! HART Tools is actually made by the same company that makes Ryobi and Milwaukee tools so I'm not surprised to see similarities across the board. I don't think the Ryobi and HART batteries are not interchangeable. Thanks again for watching!
@@HARTTools that is a shame. I would consider buying both brands but since you purposefully try to screw the customers I guess it will need to be someone else. It’s this kind of thinking that drives away sales. Why not be an “industry leader” and actually make your batteries cross over what are obviously darn near identical tools.

I've bought my Ryobi almost three years this May, still loving it and it takes almost two batteries and bout fourty minutes to mow my lawn and I live in a mobile home park.
I use the remaining of spare battery in my leaf blower to blow grass off the street & where I park my car back in the yard.
Awesome! Battery equipment is definitely going to continue to grow in popularity, especially as the tech improves.
About 10% of spare battery in which I use to blow grass back in the yard.
I'm not sure what the 20" deck is made of.
You make some great point, Dylan! Thank you for watching and leaving your input and experience.
Can I use my leaf blower battery in my Hart mower? The voltage is the same
Yup. As long as the mower and blower run off of the same voltage battery you'll be good.
What type of grass do you have? What are the dimensions of your front and back yards? l have about 3000 SqFt for front and back yards together.
I have a tall fescue lawn, my front lawn is 2000 sqft and my back yard is 2500 sqft. My total lawn is around 9000sqft. Thanks for watching!
@@TheLawnGuardian Beautiful grass.
Mowed 6,336 square feet with my double battery Greenworks. That includes going up a big hill and still had power to spare. I was using 2 60 volt 5AH batteries.
Nice! I've been told I need to try that one out. Thanks for watching!
It looks like a cool toy to have. I have about 15k square feet to mow, though, so it probably wouldn't be a good alternative for me.
People that don't understand how grass is really cut shouldn't do reviews or at least claim their reviews are knowledgeable to people that are trying to research for a purchase.
mine won't start. What could it be?
Make sure the batter is fully charged and clicked fully into the battery slot. Also, make sure the red key near the battery port is inserted. If this doesn't fix the problem you may want to reach out to HART.
Get a fast charger for about $my87. Takes about an hour. It's a hart fast charger. I got one free when I bought my hart brushless mower 3 years ago and love it.
Thanks for the review. I like how they implemented the adaptive speed on this mower, really cool stuff!
Thank you! The way they incorporated the adaptive speed feature is pretty unique. You can also turn the adaptive speed feature off and just use it as a push mower if you wanted. Thanks for the support and have a great fall!
@@TheLawnGuardian awesome stuff. You as well lawn brother!! 🍂🍁👊🏼
Great video truly helpful man thank you
Awesome! I'm glad it was helpful! Thank you for your support!
I just purchased the 40V model. It shuts down after about 10 minutes of mowing.
That would be awesome to see a battery powered TimeMaster. I just hope they make it so the battery can last for a large lawn. Thank you for watching!
Nice video! What kind of camera do you use? It looks so realistic and "live"...
It's just a Go Pro. Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Just got one. It cut the grass ONCE. Now when I try to use it, the blade literally doesn't spin.
good review and thank you for sharing it but......this mower has two issues, 1 i can't discharge and for the South and especially Florida, thats a big no go. you can't mulch down here. 2nd problem is Home Depot sells the self propelled Dewalt for $20 more and it includes 2 20volt 10 ah batteries that are equivalent to 2 40v 5 ah batts. in other words the dewalt comes with alot more battery for just $20 in price increase.
Thanks for watching! I hope the DeWalt is working out for you.
@@TheLawnGuardian ain't got one. Use a 28 inch snapper rear engine rider with a 12.5 intek
Mine turns off and on constantly
Hmm. You may want to consider reaching out to HART TOOLS for help if you're still having this problem.
Great review. I have a Honda like yours still puts a smile on my face when I hear you starting it. Love my Honda
I'm a huge Honda fan. I wish they would enter the battery powered lawn equipment market. I think they'd bring some quality products to the DIY market. Thanks for watching and have a great fall!
@@afn-bd2ro I wish they'd make a 30" walk behind as well as start making battery equipment.
How long is the run time on these
I'm not sure on the exact time but I was able to cut my 9000sqft lawn on one battery.
I like the specs and the rest but just the color to keep it clean lol... still thinking to buy this one or the Ryobi...
I’m trying to figure out why mine wants to stop within a few feet and the battery is full
Great review, thank you …
Thank you!
Do I have to put the mulch ? because self propeller moving, but the cutter not move.
Thanks for watching! Yes, regardless of the amps, all 40v batteries will work with all HART 40v equipment.
We bought ours in August. It does not run 90% of the time. Really irritating.
How well does it do the remaining 10% of the time? Is it better than your gas mower?
Really great honest review! Have you found a solid electric mower you would recommend ? Considering the 40v kobalt self propelled figure self propelled will save the extra battery and I've used one similar and it was very easy to push.
Also very nice editing! You deserve way more subs and you will definitely get there with content like this!
Thank you! I would recommend this mower. I have not used the Kobalt before. I have used the EGO mower and equipment and I know they have great reviews as well. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate your support!
Thanks for the honest feedback Ben 💯💯
You're welcome! Thank you for your support!
Thank you for watching! I hope it helped!
I have this mower with a half acre 2 5h batteries work for me and I see the sent you a backpack blower are you going to do a video of that?
That's awesome! I do plan on doing a video on the backpack blower. I'm hoping to do one this Fall during some leave clean up. Thank you for watching!
@@TheLawnGuardian well its definitely fall time
@@dylisa I know, I just haven't gotten a chance to film a video for the blow yet but I'll be working to get on out soon. Thank you again for your support! 🙂
i need to know what type of nut (size and thread) is behind the wheel cap (hub cap) - one of them fell off of mine. if you know, i beg you PLEASE tell me the name so i can go to the hardware store or to an auto part shop to get it. the Hart people dont seem to know what it is that i need after MONTHS of calls and emails! Thank you!
Just see what size nut is on the other wheels.
They now come with 2XAmp hour Batteries
thanks
Thanks for watching! Cheers!

Just want to know if 4.0 will work on mower as well. I plan to purchase self-propelled mower this spring. I'm tired of pulling to start. Thank you for great review
Yes, but the run time won't be as long with a lower amp hour battery. All 40v batteries work across the entire 40v line.
How to store off season with or without batteries in mower
Mine just started taking off on me at full speed. I can't figure out how to get it back under control. It's all or nothing and it will absolutely drag me into the fence. Is this a simple fix or user error? Or should I just return it?
Sorry to hear you're having this problem. I'm not sure what might be going on so I'd recommend reaching out to HART's customer support or reach out to them on one their social media accounts. They should be able to help you there.
I reack lawn equipment I think I ruined my last gas power lawn mower
This might be a good option for you. Thanks for watching!
I can't assemble the grass bag right 🤬
I have a couple other 40v hart tools n they work fine.
I have my eye on this mower
Nice! I think you'll be happy with their mower.
Would this mower do well cutting grass that uis about 6-12 inches high just once?
Like most walk behind mowers you'd probably have to do a double cut with grass that high but it definitely has the power to cut through grass that high.
It is not a good investment to buy a hart lawnmower. It didn't even last a season.
Make sure you reach out to HART TOOLS as they should be able to help you out. I'd recommend reaching out to them on their social media platforms.
Even at the 1in cut still doesn't feel low enough any tips?
Yeah the 1inch setting is actually slightly higher than an inch.
Great job on the review. You can make a living doing those lol. Like the height adjustment lever the best and as far as battery time even my Liberty 43 40v only last 35-40 mins. Can't get over how well your lawn recovered. Looks amazing. :)
Thank you, Keith! I think that electric reel mower you have is pretty sweet!
I've had mine for a year now and it does ok (it is a different model and lowers differently and was about half the price of this one and mine does not have metal). It does miss some spots and I wish it went a little bit lower than it does.
Thanks for this comment! What model do you have?
Why mines dont start
The adaptive control is actually pretty sweet looking! But the charge time is a big much.
Yeah the adaptive speed is very similar to Toro's Personal Pace. You can really feather and control the self propel with both. I think HART has a quick charger now but I do not have it.
@@TheLawnGuardian the best part of the Toro’s personal pace mowers.
About how long does the battery charge last?
On average I can get around 7000sqft mowed on a single battery, which will be around 30 - 40 min I think.
It's works if you just mowed with a gas one the day before!
I love my electric mower, it’s not this brand but it starts every time!
What brand is your electric mower?
@@TheLawnGuardian powersmart
This was the most inconclusive review ever.
It sounds like you didn't watch the entire video.
Hi there! Our HART batteries are only compatible with our HART products.
@@HARTTools thanks for the response...
@@UncleFester2240 You're welcome!
How does it handle the accidental curb burn or sticks?
I haven't hit any curb with this yet but sticks, it does just fine.
@@TheLawnGuardian good to know! Thanks for getting back!
can a 20 volt battery work in this 40 volt mower as the 2nd battery?

Good review man. These battery powered mowers are getting better and better, but I just can’t bring myself to give up my gas powered Honda.
I agree. I think battery powered equipment will eventually become the standard for most homeowners as the equipment continues to improve. I'm like you though, my Honda is my go to mower every time. Thank you for watching!
Great review! I really like the features, but I think in the long run, gas engines are still the way to go. Thumbs up, regardless lol
Thank you! I think the battery powered equipment has it's place for some DIYers at this time but I think as the technology improves it's going to be more common to see them used by DIYers. I do think electric lawn equipment will eventually go toe to toe with gas powered equipment, it's just a matter of time. Thank you for watching and for your support!
